So if giving Garcia a shot is out of the question then where do we go from here?@SouthParkCane is a smart football dude , he saw what we saw. It’s obvious.

I always liked Jake better than TVd.
But TVD was able to catch lightining in a bottle last year and I rode the hype train.
Tonight he looked like who I was scared he’d was. A stiff, one read QB, with inconsistent accuracy. Plus his deep ball throws and usually poorly placed.
Where did the coaches say garcia needs to better understand the playbook? We finally have a QB who has the talent to play in the NFL, (something we haven’t had in a decade), and after struggling in an offense that’s not made for him with receivers that are mediocre, a bunch of guys who never played or coached the QB position in college want to bench him in favor of a guy that the coaches say “needs to better understand the playbook.” (Which is code for “he aint getting it.”)
Only on CIS, folks, only on CIS.
p.s. this doesn’t excuse TVD from needing to play a **** of a lot better than he did against TAM
This is where I am with him as well. But, I know you're a big TVD guy, so I'm curious what you'd hope they'd get him into in terms of sets and play calls. Mind you, this isn't likely to be the thread for that discussion.

I love this site, the canes, and our amazingly diverse fan base. But the majority of the fan base is clueless. If you listen to what NFL people are saying about van dyke, they talk about the fact that they know what he’s working with. It’s a weak QB class, he has to play better but he should and will leave after this year and he will be drafted in the first three rounds. He’s got that kind of talent and more importantly he’s smartWe finally have a QB who has the talent to play in the NFL, (something we haven’t had in a decade), and after struggling in an offense that’s not made for him with receivers that are mediocre, a bunch of guys who never played or coached the QB position in college want to bench him in favor of a guy that the coaches say “needs to better understand the playbook.” (Which is code for “he aint getting it.”)

It’s a bad schematic fit and the route concepts and spacing doesn’t help wr’s. If this tight , congested inside the hashes garbage is the offense we’ll struggle all year. The wr’s are an issue but defenders were sitting on most routes because it’s basic and predictable.I know he is. Which is what? TVD is the problem or Gattis is the problem? I want that knowledge. Not meaning to come at him in anyway.
Lol I played enough and know enough to know he is too uncomfortable to be successful in this system. If the coaches insist on keeping the same system I don’t think he’s the guy that gives us the best chance with it. His reads are too slow and he plays like shi when he’s uncomfortable. Even last year he did until the second half in most games.I love this site, the canes, and our amazingly diverse fan base. But the majority of the fan base is clueless. Thank you! In the words of @Empirical Cane - I appreciate you taking out your napkins and crayons and dumbing it down for me that Gattis is the issue. Much appreciate it.It’s a bad schematic fit and the route concepts and spacing doesn’t help wr’s. If this tight , congested inside the hashes garbage is the offense we’ll struggle all year. He struggled in spring. To be fair everyone has had their issues with this offense. As I’ve said “ it was a dramatic change “.It was one of the interviews the week of the USM game IIRC
Problem is, all the conversation is deflecting from the big question: WHY is TVD struggling, beyond the obvious of our WR’s being weaker than quantum gravity.
I’ve dissected his tape the past 2 years as much as any player on this roster. (With the same objectivity as i did when i played and coached). I watched him play in person going back to HS. You just don’t go from being a guy who can hit every blade of grass on cue, to one that struggles so obviously without something else going on. Until the coaches figure that part out, we have bigger problems that a backup QB won’t solve
I appreciate the additional info. Missed that interview. It was one of the interviews the week of the USM game IIRC

You do realize this isn't a video game and switching QBs is literally the last thing a HC wants to do b/c it usually wrecks a locker room.Start Garcia against MTS. If Garcia struggles, you know its Gattis.
Is Jake doing it?By the way, I know this was supposed to be a puff piece, but it raised serious red flags to me:
https://www.espn.com/college-footba...aiting-two-decades-quarterback-tyler-van-dyke.
Most troubling part,
"When Gattis first joined the staff, he asked Van Dyke how he kept in touch with his receivers during the offseason. Turns out, he didn't. He didn't even have most guys' phone numbers.
"That was just shocking," Gattis said. "How can you build a team of wide receivers, tight ends, quarterbacks, and you're not all being on a group chat -- all be talking? You're not all throwing, watching film? So we've tried to build that camaraderie."
How a P5 QB isn't running routes with his receivers all summer and off-season I truly don't know.
That was seriously shocking to me.
Yes I realize switching QBs is a big change and has locker room implications. You do realize this isn't a video game and switching QBs is literally the last thing a HC wants to do b/c it usually wrecks a locker room.
Clowns in here act like we have Joe Montana on the bench and coaches are playing Kirby Freeman instead.
“It was a dramatic change” has not/is not mentioned nearly enough. Whether or not Gattis’ offense is **** or not, is yet to be seen.He struggled in spring. To be fair everyone has had their issues with this offense. As I’ve said “ it was a dramatic change “.
We always do this because we never actually get to see the competition on game days… just practice reports and hype pods..Do you honestly and truly believe that Garcia would have been better tonight with the same play calling and same WRs?
We might "save the playbook" for UNC so wont be scoring too much you think? We always do this because we never actually get to see the competition on game days… just practice reports and hype pods..
Jake needs burn against MidTenn St. (If we aren’t up by enough at half, then that means he definitely needs the burn)
No one is saying bench TVD. But what I am saying is, Jake better be ******* game ready for the second half of UNC if TVD keeps playing shook…
