I hope Garcia gets to play next week

Yeah Jake looked great in the multiple other games we saw him play in under Gattis. They have chemistry
I kept hoping TVD would get the second half confidence he had last year but it didn't happen. I thought that would be less of an issue after a summer of being the #1 guy but I think the increased pressure and expectations of our program with all the change and the new scheme has been a lot for him and he is even less comfortable than he was last year when there weren't any expectations on him and he had all game to go 3&out or hit big plays in that offense

This is from the puff piece ESPN did for him in anticipation of college gameday.

It also goes on to say when he's playing golf or 2k and is winning by too much he lets the other guys come back to make it more interesting lol. It talks about the time they played doubles golf with the punters and after being up by a comfortable margin he starts losing on purpose again and they end up losing because he can't catch up. Excerpt below:

"We'll be playing NBA 2K, and we'll be blowing people out, and he'll let them come back," Restrepo said. "He just plays with fire."

Van Dyke and Restrepo had gone golfing with two of Miami's punters this summer -- a scramble, most holes wins -- and after seven holes, they were already up five. Boring, Van Dyke thought.

"He starts chunking shots on purpose," Restrepo said. "He's laughing about it."

The plan backfired though. After 15, Restrepo and Van Dyke were down two holes. The pressure was on.

On 16, Van Dyke drains a birdie to take the hole.

On 17, he does it again -- sinks a putt from 10 feet out. They're tied.

Last hole, Van Dyke steps to the tee and -- shanks it.

"Flubs the drive," Restrepo said, "and we lost. He was mad."

It goes on to say he would never do that with football, but I just wonder who by this age hasn't learned to put your foot on someone's throat and don't fck around about winning and losing
Shades of luke rockhold

Only chance Garcia gets to play if TVD gets hurt. I would never wish that on anyone, but something tells me mario will be too stubborn to bench tvd even if the mediocre play continues

We'll see! I think there is a lot of pressure on him and staff probably not to bench TVD since he got all that preseason hype and he has the Herbet criticisms and Garcia is unproven as a commodity, but I think its the wrong decision and I think as a coach you have to play the Qb who gives you the best chance to win and not care what people think

By the way, I know this was supposed to be a puff piece, but it raised serious red flags to me:

https://www.espn.com/college-footba...aiting-two-decades-quarterback-tyler-van-dyke.

Most troubling part,
"When Gattis first joined the staff, he asked Van Dyke how he kept in touch with his receivers during the offseason. Turns out, he didn't. He didn't even have most guys' phone numbers.

"That was just shocking," Gattis said. "How can you build a team of wide receivers, tight ends, quarterbacks, and you're not all being on a group chat -- all be talking? You're not all throwing, watching film? So we've tried to build that camaraderie."

How a P5 QB isn't running routes with his receivers all summer and off-season I truly don't know.

That was seriously shocking to me.
Uhh what??

The hot takes in here are oooof.
So what is your take on it then lol? Always funny to me when people only criticize something without saying anything meaningful.

Put your take down in writing, sir!

Perhaps X doesn't allow him to cavort with other WRs. X-man keeps that man on lock, like Ike Turner. Even a glance at another receiver may be met with hasty and venomous onslaught when the two men return to their living chambers that they take respite in together.

My hot take is anyone calling for TVD to be replaced in the 3rd game with suspect WRs in a new offensive system is a MORON.
If he starts playing well then I'll be thrilled. If he keeps playing without confidence then I'll keep being frustrated that we're giving games away because the guy that's supposed to be the leader of our offense can't be capable of leading if he has no confidence in himself or in the gameplan.

I'm not surprised that your take relies on name calling rather than saying anything of substance

Do you honestly and truly believe that Garcia would have been better tonight with the same play calling and same WRs?

2k **** a red flag 😅 I’ve never played with anyone not trying to skunk the next player , wtf is this “let them come back” and “winning by too much” nonsense

TVD ain’t got that dog in him ?

Yes. I think receivers played poorly and dropped some passes but I think TVD is late on his reads and he under threw 2 and over threw (and too far inside) another pass that would've been TDs. Maybe Jake doesn't make those, but even on his completions on those intermediately deep throws there was too much air under the passes and our guys didn't have time to make plays after the catch. If he'd thrown those with more zip they're bigger plays

On those TVD runs, they were reads and he chose to keep the ball. He should NEVER keep the ball, him and 83 got the same cement shoes.

Yes. The announcers referred to lack of chemistry with WRs other than Restrepo. How does the leader on offense not work with the WRs every spare hour of every day?

I get that he's a young man and he isn't a pro athlete, but I feel like by that age most guys who are the QB know what kind of leadership is required for the position

His passes were wobbly and inaccurate. Someone asked if he was playing with an injury. It sure looked that way.
