Hypothetically speaking

I would love for Richt to stick it to the UGA administration by winning the NC this year. They would have egg all over their faces and someone may get fired.

Similar, but different situations. The 2000 team Butch left for Cleveland was arguably robbed of the opportunity to play for a NC. The 2001 team continued the previous success and earned a NC at the end of their campaign. Without question, Butch Davis deserves some of the praise for assembling the foundations of the 2001 team.

Now, if Mark Richt were to take the 2016 or 2017 on to Coastal Div and/or NC success, Al Golden would also share in the success in the same.terms of asembling part of the roster. Where I think it differs slightly for Golden is the "coaching legacy". While Davis coached his teams from dark times to the success of 2000, it seemed Golden's tenure and staff arguably regressed from year to year.

I'll give Golden credit, he left us better off than Randy did, but in terms of what he missed on in his 5 years.. too many guys that could have the U elite again. If we had a few of Dalvin, Ridley, Sony, Collins, Calloway, Rudolph, etc we'd be in contention already.

But you can't deny the fact that if Richt were to make it to a NCG that it would be the greatest piece of coaching ever done in less than 1 year. So no, Golden doesn't get that much credit.

He left us a lot more to work with. We have an abundance of talent at every position outside of db and oline. Wide receiver not included because of the incoming talent. When he got here we had depleted roster outside of our 2011 draft picks

The only "AG" we should continue to speak about around here is Alex freakin' Gall.

To **** with Golden, if Richt won back to back national championships id want those victories against the SEC.
To see Richt lead Miami in wins against Bama and Fla,Im pretty sure Athen,Ga would explode..lol

it would most probably mean that you beat Clemson, so to go from 58-0 to ACC ship with the same players would be an even more glaring indictment of Grohldens cluelessness

I'll answer your question with some questions. If Butch would have stayed what are the chances he would have won the natty in 2001? If ag wouldn't have been fired what are the chances he wins the natty this year? If Richt wins it this year he deserves all the credit....end of story.

Golden left better talent than he inherited, that's about the only thing good I can say about his time here. The problem is he missed out on too many difference makers and took way too many risks on trying to find diamonds in the rough. This left us void of quality depth. Sure there's talent but a big drop off from the ones to the twos in certain positions.

If certain positions stay healthy then it's reasonable to think we improve on our win total from last year due to better coaching. Still from the **** show Golden put us through I can't give him much credit for anything.

Some of you all are even giving Al too much credit. The team is worst than he took over. The only position that is better is qb and Al still inherited the 2nd and 3rd all time passers in school history. Kaaya is just going to shatter everything, that being said the team isnt better than when he took over. If Richt wins it all this year, he gets the credit. Especially with so many people outside of this fanbase is only predicting an 8 or 9 win season.

This is coming from an AG mope and Butch supporter

Just curious to hear thoughts......what would everyone say if Richt were to win the NC this and next year? Would people give Golden credit for amassing the majority of that talent? we do that with Butch. Not saying AG is Butch.

Butch left after a 1 loss season lol He gets credit for building a real team, not just finding talent

The only thing Golden should get "credit" for is effing up the program even more than the two a-holes who came before him.Result: Richt has to basically rebuild the whole thing. This will take 3-5 years just like it did under Butch. You don't win much of anything with duds like Al "Turnstile" Gall in your lineup.

I would say, "Howard was right. All Miami needs is a decent coach!" If Mark wins NC if just proves in another way that Al sucked as a coach. Butch overcame REAL sanctions and left greatest team ever after getting screwed out of playing for NC by Bobby lickers. Coker won with Butch's recruits. If Mark wins it will be more his better coaching than Al's recruiting. This is Miami; hard to do worse than Al did at recruiting.
