Off-Topic Hurricane Ida

Prayers for you and the rest. I went to school in New Orleans during Katrina, and lived there after things reopened. Still have a LOT of friends in the city and region. Hoping for the best but this thing is a monster and seemingly won’t gtfo of the area. Will have you in thoughts and prayers.
Thank you and thanks to everyone.I have a bad feeling by the time this thing is done it is gonna make Katrina look like an afternoon shower.

Ol girl reversed the flow of the Mississippi River and was breaking weather gauges.

Good luck and stay safe, Cane Brothers on the Bayou.

People forget that Katrina actually weakened right before landfall and was a Cat 3 when it hit. If the levees did their job, it would have been a bad storm but not catastrophic. Even the old areas built around the crescent of the city were generally ok. But man, driving through the 9th was one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. Hopefully they do their job this time. Praying for a different result across the region this time.

Nope..looks to be worse than Katrina..

The thing about Katrina was it spent a lot of time offshore as a Cat-5, which created massive storm surge (flooding). The surge this time thankfully won't be as bad, god willing. Hoping all the work they've done since on the levees etc., holds up. Stay safe, amigo. Those winds look beastly. I have a lot of friends who had to evac.

As my friend who lives in New Orleans said… we have the best $5bn levee that cost $50bn and hopefully it does what it is supposed to.

It was also a MASSIVE storm. I remember getting to Atlanta after evacuating and turning on the news. When we left, it was big and expected to strengthen. When I turned on the news, it was literally the size of the gulf. I think they said this one went out 50 miles from the eye wall. Katrina went out 90. You are right about the storm surge, but due to its sheer size, it also was there for a long time and dumped an insane amount of rain.

Well guys we survived and we’re a whooooole lot luckier than the people down by the coast.

we had about 1-2 hours of 100-110 mph winds and a lot of rain but for the most part my wife and I came through this monster unscathed.

I have not seen any videos or pictures from Grand Isle/Houma ares but from what I can ascertain from friends on FB that area got flattened. We are without power but but have the internet and I have a generator that runs pretty much everything in my house other than the AC units but we have portable ones that run on 110 so it’s ntoo bad.

The New Orleans area and surrounding cities are gonna be without power for a long while as a bunch of the main metal power towers snapped in half with some of them ending up in the Mississippi River so they are going to have to rebuild all of that.

if you guys have any videos you find I’d like to see exactly what happened down south.

But I thank all you guys for the well wishes but your thoughts and prayers need to be going to those people down in the coastal areas cause it will be a loooong time till they rebuild those paradise fishing areas down there.

Glad you’re ok, praying for the worst hit areas. Good friend of mine is bringing a crew over from Alabama this week to help clean up. Hope y’all get more help than you need.

From what I understand there were 12,000 people from other states and their trucks already in place for the expected mess.I went out and just took a little ride around the streets by my house and there is a mess and I’m nit looking to have electricity back for at least a week.I’ll be happy to have it back but Saturday.
Looks like I’ll be making a road trip to find the game.

Glad to hear you’re ok. The Weather Channel has had continuing coverage from the get go. Cantore is in Grande Isle as I type. They’ve also had a lot of video from drones from several storm chasers.

I found out my great aunt lost her house in Tangipahoa Parish from downed trees. She's been in a retirement home so I'm thankful no one got hurt.

@Cajuncane You are a brave man my friend.
Naw been through so many of these growing up in Key West and then moving to La.You learn to respect them but not to panic. The people around the coast are the brave ones though. They pretty much lose half / all their belongings everytime these things come this way.I can’t imagine having to go through that.So I’m VERY fortunate.
We’ve been VERY lucky around here for 16 years to the day.We haven’t really had anything much hit this immediate area since Katrina even though the one last year tore up the Lake Charles /Texas Border area. We’ve seen every one of them turn toward the Fla. panhandle or the Texas coast so it was just our turn.

Bad thing about this one was it happened so quickly the people like on Grand Isle and in Houma etc didn’t have much time to prepare as they normally would. But people around here are pretty resilient so they’ll rebuild.Did it after Katrina and they will again.

Funny thing is my wife’s and my stepsons birthday’s are both on the 29th.I told them they need to change it to another day so these massive storms would quit rolling through here..lol

But I really do appreciate the thoughts and well wishes from people I only know through a football site. It’s incredible the feeling of extended family you get when bad things happen to one of us.I am glad to have been a Cane fan going on 64 years now. There’s no other fan base/extended family I’d rather be a part of and anytime any of you are ever in the New Orleans please give me a call I’d love to buy you a drink and meet the people on the other end of typewriter.
