Fair assessment. What is likely to happen is that close losses wear the team down and they play really poor against either Pitt or NC State. If we were 4-2 after beating UVA and UNC, then life would have been far too interesting and we would be screwed with another year of Diaz.

IF they actually cared one iota about the team they'd absolutely do it before GaTech. Allow an interim to find his feet against them and then have full time to prep for the rivalry game against FSU. Beyond that, there are advantages to opening up the job "officially" and letting the speculation/vetting run rampant. Yes, there are likely financial ramifications of settling out with him prior to the season, but you have to do the Math on whether those cost more than the potential downsides. This shouldn't be personal. Strictly business.
