How much room do we have left?

we can't enroll any more than 29 new bodies, which i think we'll shoot for.

so you do the math

Listen to Derek. We can bring in 29 total bodies, of the 29 bodies 4 would have to enroll early. Keep in mind that transfers count as initial counters too.

I believe the number is 31 initial counters for this year.

2010 27 total initial counters with 7 early entries counted backwards leaving 5 open slots for EE.
2011 21 total IC's with 5 EE counted backwards leaving 14 open slots (only 9 of which were used.)
2012 32 total IC's with 9 EE counted backwards leaving 2 open slots.
2013 21 total IC's with 2 EE counted backwards leaving 6 open slots
2014 25 yearly allotment + 6 open slots = 31.

this includes transfers such as O'Donnell, Renfrow, Ayles, M.Williams, Mustafaa ,Whipple etc., (not sure he counts since his father was coach - could be a walk on)

seems we are recruiting as such as well. In the mix with waaay too many guys considering we have 28 committed. I know not everyone is sticking, but I seriously doubt we would be involved with so many different guys for only a couple of spots

2011

21 kids signed of which 3 never enrolled (Grooms, Kinnard & Gadbois). We added transfers Michael Williams (DB WF) Blake Ayles (TE USC) and Ryan Williams (QB Memphis). [21-3+3=21]

Of these 21 kids above, 3 enrolled early (Ayles, Finnie and Pierre) so we had 18 apply to the 2011 class with 7 that could carry over.

+7 (Could Be Applied to 2011)

2012

33 kids signed of which 1 never enrolled (Jean-Louis). [33-1=32]

Of these 32 kids, 9 enrolled early (Crow, Hope, Dewey, Flowers, Gabois, Gunter, Kirby, Hoilett and Witt) but only 7 could be counted towards 2011.

7 of the 32 kids applied to 2011. 25 kids applied toward 2012, so we had 0 scholarship carry over.

0 (Could be applied to 2012)

2013

20 kids signed of which 3 never enrolled (Griffin, Lockley and Bond). We added transfers David Gilbert (DE Wisc), Pat O'Donnell (Cinn P), Naim Mustafaa (DE OSU) and Justin Renfrow (DT UVA). [20-3+4=21]

Of these 21 kids, 5 enrolled early (Sandland, Dobard, Knighton, Figueroa and Odogwu ) but none counted towards 2012. We had 21 apply to the 2013 class with a carryover of 4.

My guess is we are at +4. Which means (ignoring sanctions) we could bring in 29 kids, 4 could apply to the 2013 class (if they enrolled early).

+4 (Could be applied to 2013)

This is where the difference is. I'm almost certain Michael Williams and Ryan Williams can be counted backwards even though they did not participate in spring ball. If they are counted backwards, then 31 is our number. If not, 29 it is. Both of their transfers were announced during that spring semester. To me, the coaching staffs actions suggest a higher number

Hypothetically, 3 years in, next year there should be enough "veteran" talent from the Golden classes that they shouldn't need to bring in a large amount of JUCO guys.

AG has only brought in two complete classes of his guys.. (first year was a patch job at best) In this scenario, Dallas Crawford would be considered a "veteran". Unfortunately with all the NCAA mess, we missed on some pretty big prospects.. which forced us to gamble on talented kids with baggage (Gabe Terry, Eddie Johnson) that didn't work out. Hypothetically, you are correct.. but in this case (with these unique circumstances), it just didn't happen that way.

Here is the thing, this is where it get's weird (Help From Derek D, see below) Michael Williams and Ryan Williams may be able to be counted backwards but we only had room for 4 (5 if LA counts as a track scholarship, see 2010 below).

The 2011 class had 3 kids enroll early (Finnie, Ayles and Pierre) so 3 of the 4 2010 spots were used by these kids enrolling early. The questions are whether Michael or Ryan can count towards 2010 and what kind of counter was Latwan Anderson. Let's say we can count one of them, that would free of an extra ship (we enrolled 9 early in 2012) and get us to 30 in 2014.

2010 Class

Counted towards 2009 Signing Class
1. QB Stephen Morris
2. RB Storm Johnson
3. WR Allen Hurns
4. OL Malcolm Bunche
5. OL Shane McDermott
6. LB Tyrone Cornelius

2010 Signing Class
7. RB Eduardo Clements (1)
8. RB Darion Hall (2)
9. FB Maurice Hagens (3)
10. TE Andrew Tallman (4)
11. TE Asante-Jabari Cleveland (5)
12. TE Chase Ford (6)

247 staff said 30 at least

Makes sense. I mean, we have 26 in the fold and I'm guessing we have a great shot at 3-4 more.

we have 28 in the fold. Which is why i really believe the number has to be higher than 29. We are still heavily involved with Dixon, Moten, JC Jackson, another RB (Sony/Cook), another WR (Lane, Brady), another JuCo (C.Johnson/Pelon, Clinkscales, McDowdell), and a S (I sure as **** hope so at least) not to mention several other longer shot types. Granted, guys like Turner/Gray/Stuckey/McCray may not make it thru, but with all of our activity, 29 does not seem plausible

Latwan was for sure a track scholarship. There was a reason Randy would bite anyone's face off that asked about Latwan. "Latwan is a track athlete, I dont know nothin about him"

I just hope we close with
Add
Dixon, Moten, Jc Jackson Cook/Michel and Kiy Hester
I pray that Griffin qualifies.

Lose
-Turner (don't see him cracking the rotation ever. Especially with us rumored to be in on so many elite 2015 db's)
-Lockley (no true position, great athlete but IMO the kids I hope we close with would have a bigger impact on the program)
-Rosier (I expect Olsen or Kaaya to start 2014 and I hope we end up with Torrance Gibson in 2015 I think he is Elite, Rosier would end up like gray crow)

Let's assume this is the case. What is the exception that would allow Ryan Williams and Michael Williams to count towards the 2010 class? They didn't enroll early and they were transfers. I believe that transfers can count towards the current class (2011).

As for how many do we have room for, I am still going with 29 players can enroll of which 4 will have to enroll early.

We have 28 commits today (this assumes you include Griffin and Lockley), my guess is of those commits 2 will not sign LOI (for whatever reason). I believe we will sign 31 in total and 3 won't enroll for some other reason (grades).

My Last 5
1. Molton
2. South Florida RB
3. S
4. JUCO DL (especially if Stuckey is out)
5. WR

Naim Mustafaa (DE OSU)

Glad he could grace us with his presence for a few months..

Mustafaa is still at Miami.

In a literal sense?

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/10/naim-mustafaa-leaving-the-canes-too/

Still enrolled in classes and planning to rejoin the team in January.

That wouldn't be so bad, then what exactly happened?

Left to be added to our current commits by position:
WR-2
OL-1
RB-1
DT-1/2

You think 9 more guys are going to commit to Miami?

Only if we have several decommits which I don't see happening. Of the guys we're recruiting now, not all of them will have written offers. I'm guessing the coaches are lining them up only to plan to hand out 5-6 written offers.

Let's close like this
Sony/Cook
Dixon
Moten
Juco DT
Street/Carter/Boateng
ILB - badly need another impact player here
Jackson
Hester

Can't imagine we turn down any of that if it wants to come... I have to figure that somehow/some way we'd make the #s work. We need ++ talent playmakers badly.
