How long do we keep Diaz?

Given the d's turnaround, I'd say, another year at most.
Wouldn't be surprised if he gets decent HC offers after this season.

Need to start stashing money away for a raise. As much as I love what hes done this year, its way too early to call him our head coach in waiting. But if the D continues to improve the next 2 years, id be down for it. Hes in a perfect situation right now. Hes home, coaching behind a coach thats going to bring him elite talent, and he has a chance to possibly take over in 4 years. Much better then going to take a job at a low tier school trying to build it from the ground up, and if you fail you have to start all over again.

I have no idea. I like Diaz, but if he left I'd look at moving Coach Kool up if he was interested. Pretty sure he'd keep the attacking style defense and in fact whoever Richt would hire would also probably likewise keep an attacking style defense seeing as we've had success with it.

If we are giving first time D/C's a shot, I would want Corey Raymond. But unfortunately, that doesn't make sense with already having 2 secondary coaches.

I agree with munch of this but I haven't seen anything to indicate that Coach Richt will be looking to retire in four years. Unless he is fired for poor performance, I see him being around for a while.

We need to keep El Jefe for as long as Saban kept Kirby...

He needs to be paid whatever the f*ck he wants until we win the ACC, simple as that.

Agreed. It would be a shame if he moves on before we win the ACC or AT LEAST win the coastal. No way he sits around indefinitely until Richt leaves to be HC.

Not even sure Kool would take it because he seems to love doing what he's doing. I don't know much about Raymond beyond the little I've read on here about him. We've had talent on our defense for several seasons - our guys are playing on Sundays - so my thinking is that this would be an attractive job, especially since Diaz has our young but talented defense playing so well. In any case, I don't think he's going anywhere at the end of this season.

If Diaz leaves for a HC position, he will probably take Banda with him, so that's a moot point.

Richt wants to stay a long time. Why else donate $1 million to the program?
If Diaz wants to move up, he'll have to move on.

Richt should get ultimate credit for the defense. He had the credibility and smarts to bring in Diaz-Kul.

No, the majority of the credit needs to go to El Jefe Diaz...

The Defensive line hasn't been getting sacks & causing pressure the same way they were early on in the year, the most impressive unit on the Defense has been the LB corp lead by 3 True Freshmans.

Considering we lost Young & Grace before the season starts, then lost Gordinier after FAMU, we barely have any depth at LB & Diaz has guys like Mike Smith & Owens playing better than they ever have in their life.

The LB's are used to cause pressure just as much as the DL's & they also have a ton of responsibilities in coverage.

I'm not saying the DL isn't great because they are, but you guys give a little too much credit to Kool, he's never been a DC ever, Diaz has...

The calls that are made on every down of the game for the Defense is made by Diaz on the sideline, he's down there on the field literally reading every play the opposing offense is running & calling the counterpunch right there on the spot.

This entire season, every offense we've faced has had a chess match with Diaz & for the most part he's won...

I'm not saying Kool isn't a good coach or doesn't deserve a ton credit because he does, but among this coaching staff, the one who deserves the most credit more than anyone (Richt included) is El Jefe.

He's also been our best recruiter, and that counts just as much as the on the field performance.
