How long did it take you to realize that Golden sucked?

No specific date.

Couldn't get swasey fired from day one.
Couldn't keep the juniors from leaving even the ones that didn't get drafted.
Couldn't land key recruits
Wouldn't fire bad staff.

Guess it was the day Duke broke his ankle running into a stacked line vs FSU. Or may be it was vs UL in the bowl or opening day.

Glad to have Richt now. Hope he can finish the job golden started. Golden did a lot of good to fix Randy's mess. Golden just couldn't finish the job.

Middle of the 2013 season. The Wake Forest game is where I really started losing patience. They won that game but it was much closer than it should have been because we let their OL line up with 3 yard splits and still tried to play gap containment on D. Then they dropped 3 straight to FSU, VT, and Duke. The final nail in the coffin was the bowl game that year against Louisville. I was absolutely done with Golden after that game. Along the way there were recruiting failures that made me question his competence as well, e.g., the Alex Collins and Denver Kirkland debacles.

I'm sure half the board will jump on here and claim they thought he was a bum from day one but everyone knows that's not true. The thing that I noticed early about Golden was that he coached Miami like you would coach Temple. His schemes and philosophy were that of an underdog, lesser talented team. Worrying about time of possession, playing bend but don't break defense, hoping the other team shoots it's self in the foot with turnovers. Those are all part of the recipe for pulling an upset with an undermanned team. When your team is bigger, stronger and faster than most of your opponents, you don't play it close to the vest and try to squeak out a win. Now, I'll admit I held out hope (probably longer than I should have) that he would adapt his schemes to more aptly suit his talent on hand but it never happened. He was too stubborn and/or stupid to realize his bread and butter was hot garbage along with a majority of his staff. Like someone earlier posted, I wouldn't be surprised to see Al Golden end up at some mid major school winning 7 or 8 games and being hailed for it. Some dudes are best suited for the big fish/small pond environment.

All I know is I am glad we fired him this season. I don't think we would have landed a coach of Richt's caliber prior to this season.

When Maryland carved us up and we made no defensive adjustments, I knew he sucked.

Looking back that should have made it clear. While normally a negative type, I bought that stupid used car crap for way to long. Kept thinking he would learn and adjust. I didn't really start to turn on him until he started throwing players under the bus to protect his boyfriend(later realized he was protecting his own ego). Beating UF cut him some slack but getting hammered by Strong in the bowl game was it for me.

VT game in the rain completely lost me.
Growing suspicious when every time he was asked about the defense he would bring up the offense.

There were always red flags. There are with Richt now. But Virginia last year. Maybe FSU when we had them on the ropes and changed to passive in the second half. To me the cards were stacked against him. He had to take Swasey. He had no training table. His first year his best players were suspended. Recruiting was going to be a *****. I gave the man the Benefit of the doubt. You got to have great players to win the great games. But Virginia? Then Pitt *** whipping? But I did not want him fired last year because I wanted Donna out of the equation. The BOT had to be on board to spend. They were not. We would have gotten another bad coach. I was willing to see the first 3 games and then pull the plug and get a real top shelf CEO. We got that now.

LOL, most fans were on his nut sack from jump and well into 2014 as well. Why you are starting this thread now makes no sense. He is gone.

There were less than a handful on this board that called this horrendous hire.

He started it so he could say he knew all along....guy has some real talent. I think OP should lead our recruiting too.

Great post he did coach Iike Miami was some mid major team who lacked talent.

I had wanted golden gone since he went off the grid in January 2014 when he desperately pursued the penn state job. I remember people calling golden out after we won against wake forest and was 7-0 saying the defense was a mirage and all of that and the team wasn't that good. I'm glad he is gone and I'm glad we fired him later than sooner jumping the gun... Who knows who we would have gotten stuck with if they fired him after last year. Glad we got coach richt

LOl you're so full of it. YOu spent the last 2 years defending Al Golden to the death.

Do you want me to pull up posts from 2014 when I said I wanted him gone during the penn state fiasco? Stop being a dumbf_ck you idiot

I had my doubts after the way the 2013 season ended. I was willing to give him the benefit of doubt though going into 2014. But after the 2014 season I knew he had to go. To have a losing record with the amount of talent on that team spoke volumes. As did his actions or lack thereof during the off-season.

He wanted out of Miami by any means possible. Whether that was by leaving for Penn State or getting canned. Any head coach that's trying to win and succeed takes the steps necessary to do so. The fact that he wouldn't make staff changes after 2014 is ridiculous. Let's not forget how he hid from everyone after the bowl game as well. Good riddance to the guy.

In 2013 we were 7-0 and then lost to fsu (but played well) and then lost to VT.

Disappointing but I feel we would have won if not for Stacy Coley and burns fumbling so I didn't call for his head just yet.

However when we got smoked by Duke the next week I wanted a change immediately.

I should have known better after the Duke game , but I bought tickets to the Louisville game since it was here in Orlando and watched us get obliterated by tedy and Louisville in the **** Champs bowl and I had enough.

Hated the guy ever since that Duke game and

I had serious questions about his coaching before then(ND game year or two before) but we were 7-2 before that Duke game in '13 (close game against would be national championship team in fsu and two horrific fumbles away from besting VT in my opinion) so there wasn't much to complain about at least for me.

But with Duke, he was out coached in every sense of the word and didn't get the team up to play at all. Louisville should have been his job but I'm glad it wasn't looking back becuase we would have gotten schiano or someone and not richt

Really could go back to to notre Dame disaster but I had optimism still the next season

His first game against Maryland. His D was killed by the swing pass over and over, and our DBs were still 10 yards away from the LOS. After the first game I realized that he isn't a good game day coach
