How is Butch Davis not in the UMHOF?

Why people don't understand this is beyond me.

Instead they want to hang on to the lame "bad game day coach" argument, which is the stupidest thing they could say. Like that argument supercedes all his other accomplishments.

If you don't like him, just man up and say you don't like him. But don't give ignorant excuses because you look like the typical mouthbreathing Miami fan.
I don’t like or respect him. The dude lacks integrity.

My motto on Butch has always been “ only Butch Davis could’ve found a way to lose a game with that 2000 roster “. I will argue to the day I die that‘s a better team on paper than the 2001 team. That said I will always give him his flowers as a recruiter , evaluator and developing players. But on Saturday’s he was atrocious. He coached scared and not to lose.
Once again. Cribby is right.

No one debates his acquisition of talent.

Game days gave him the title of “Botch” Davis. He could have lost with this year’s Bulldogs team.

No lie I did a breakdown of Butch Davis years ago on Caneinsider. @IndayArtHauz likely remembers. It was very controversial but eye opening at the same time. I went through his career starting at UM all the way to the pros, showing all his epic collapses. Games you’d have to actually try to lose. He was conservative on steroids and coached like a coward. Hence why coaches like Bruce Arians called him a “ ***** “. He was as frustrating of a coach as I’ve ever experienced on game days.

Because they were loyal to their coach and not to the seed of corrupt mayor who blew up the OB to line his pockets...

Loyalty is very interesting…

Lots of preaching about that around here that it is the U above all… until it’s not because it doesn’t fit the agenda…

You see that DNA in his grad assistants like Mario and Gattis.

Well it is called Head “Coach “ . How stupid of me to judge a coach on his actual game day coaching lol. I guess I am the stupid one.
The title of the thread is asking about why he is not in the UMHOF. Saying he is a bad game day coach is not a valid reason to keep him out.

But this bad game day coach still had a pretty good winning percentage. No?? Or was it not high enough for you?

I know there has been some bad blood with Butch the way he left the school and his players faking injuries for FIU but he assembled the greatest collection of talent in UM and possibly CFB history. No one is more deserving of being inducted than him.
Where the **** did this come from. Is there nothing else going on in your life.
Butch Davis?!?!!!

Still a terrible game day coach.

The Butch cult always brings me laughs. He built a great team one time so he’s the equivalent of LombardI, Wooden, Belichik, Saban and P Jackson rolled into one. At least in their own minds. There’s nothing on his resume but that roster he built and a few Big East titles. Oh and the five mythical national titles “ he would’ve won “ if he’d stayed.

Don’t worry guys , I’ll see myself out lol.

I can't speak for everyone, I can only speak for myself.

I wish that Butch had stayed. Same way I feel about Schnells. With JJ and Dennis, you can see the trajectory of moving to the NFL. But with Schnellenberger and Johnson, I would have liked to have seen them stay for a few more years to enjoy the success that they each built up.

I think the difference between Howard and Butch is that Howard has a ring to show for it. Whereas Butch (as a HEAD Coach) is still the greatest UM coach who never quite won a ring of his own. That's all. Doesn't make him "better" or "worse".

But what DOES happen is that the Butch haters ooze out of the woodwork, and then when those of us who were there and saw what Butch did...try to set the record straight and give the man his due...we are accused of being in a cult. And don't even get me started on the worthless trolls who derive enjoyment from attacking SWFL.

It's ridiculous.

Well if you arent good on the field than youre really just an admin masquerading as a coach.

I was on the boards (grassy) back during that time and we used to KILL Butch and his game day decisions. Despite having a staff of stellar coaches, he sucked as a gameday coach.

I think you'll find most people that were around back then all thought this way.

Accurate recollection. I was one of the ones that hated his gameday decisions and at times called for his head, sure. I never used the nickname Freckles as a term of endearment.

At the same time, though, he put together talent on the field and on the sidelines under the most dire of circumstances that won some big games. In the perfect world of hindsight, he and us would've been much better off had he stayed longer, imo. Wish he had and maybe most of the suffering of the last 20 years may have been avoided for the most part.

The reason why the “haters” come out of the woodwork is because this topic continually pops up. The Butch slurpers continue their narrative and the “haters” respond with their own amplified narrative because they’re tired of hearing about it. We also continue to hear about Butch because during his tenure was the last time Miami was relevant.

It’s old news. It’s been well over 20 years since all this took place. Maybe if we become relevant again, this Butch nonsense will fade away.

You are a miserable piece of trash.

"He won the conference 3 times in 6 years." is what I said.

Doesn't matter what conference. 5 of the 8 Big East teams are now in the ACC, 1 is in the Big 10, 1 is in the Big 12.

Are you going to whine about strength or size of conference? Diminish what Miami accomplished as an independent or Big East champ? It's not like the ACC has been a much harder test.

Stop acting like a ****.

Are we celebrating conference titles now? Big east titles at that. I thought this was the U where national titles was all we cared about.

Head coaches wear alot of different hats.

Some are better at x's and o's and some are better as ceo's.

Bottom line is winning.

Was Butch's winning percentage at UM not high enough for you?

Nope. He left a championshipnon the table and was embarrassed by his rivals routinely.
