How good will our defense be this coming up season?

DT play will be the key next year. Nesta and others have to ball out. If they do that, the defense will be very good. There's no question Gerald Willis will be missed. He played at an All American level. I'm highly confident the rest of the D will be stout. We badly need stout DT play though. The offense will certainly be more productive and that will also help big time.
We need that DT transfer from UCLA badly

Hinges on the defensive line. We’re good although inexperienced in the secondary and LB is a strength.

Need to pull 1 (preferably both) of the grad transfers at DT (Rice and UCLA) and need to get a DE (Hill).

DE- Garvin/Rousseau/Hill/Patchan/freshmen
DT- Silvera/Bethel/Transfer/Ford/freshmen

**** good.

Quarterman, Pinckney, Finley, McCloud will be touted as the country's finest LB corps. They'll write articles about them in the preseason rags. Silvera, Garvin, Rousseau will terrorize. And Bandy, Hall, Carter, Ivey, Blades, Bolden, Keontra, Frierson will form a surprisingly sturdy secondary.
rokulika .............good positive post, but a tad optimistic as per "the country's finest LB corps".....temper that, and see what the secondary does also.
Good, but not great is my OP.

Big step back. New DC (yeah I get it's the same system but still), losing Willis is going to be HUGE, losing J. Jackson doesn't help, two new safeties and only one proven CB.

Thank god the LB's stayed.

I'm not saying we'll be bad, but don't expect us to look like last year.
I disagree. Almost the entire staff is the same, but more importantly... the D won’t be playing against the opposing offense AND their own O and ST.

That D was forced to defend a short field about every drive, and had to deal with their own O going 3 and out waaaay to often.

That’s gonna be a huge benefit.

Pretty sure we will pull this guy too.

NYC smells like garbage. I cannot get past that nasty smell.
NYC smells like food and an open sewer. London smells like food and diesel exhaust. That's just what happens in close quarters.

Well its definitely going to drop off. Losing Gerald Willis, Joe Jackson, Jaquan Johnson, Sheldrick Redwine, and Michael Jackson who were LITERALLY 5 of our best like 6 or 7 players on defense. So All are pretty ******* big losses, especially the safeties.

DLine I thiink we'll be fine because I think Nesta, Ford, and Rousseau will step up. Depth wise, we're screwed at DE. LB wise, we're good. CB we have talent and Rumph has shown he can consistently get our CBs ready to play, so I'm not worried there. Safety we definitely have the talent, its just a lot of potential for a dropoff going from two Seniors who will be drafted in the top 4 rounds to young guys who've never started before really.

These are very good points, but I still think the D regresses. The scheme is based upon getting to the QB and we don't have a proven, dominant guy in the middle.

Been there, done that - skipped on the t-shirt. Thanks for time and input, that wasn't warranted.

LMAO you're from Columbus and you're trashing NYC????

Columbus is literally one of the worst cities I've ever been to in my life. Bunch of fat racists and zero culture.

Pretty obvious you're an Ohio State fan.

Nope - wrong on all accounts. But keep wasting your time. Now, my entire family are taint fans, so I guess you can harp on that.

While our defense was good some of the success is a bit misleading. We played a terrible schedule and we didn’t face an elite offense all year.

OK, you're not from Columbus. Your profile on here just says you are. That makes sense.
