How good will our defense be this coming up season?

I personally think the defense will be better. Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but whether or not the defense is better will depend on the DT. I believe that the DTs will get better and as a whole be better or be the same as last year, especially if we get the DT from UCLA. The DBs and LBs will be better than the year before. It's been a while since we have head a very athletic Backfield and I think that will help us.

He's good but he's nowhere near what Willis was last season yet.

Don't forget he was only a true Freshman last year. Willis is what 6 years out of HS?? Willis was a man playing with boys out there. Nesta only going to get better

Totally agreed, but that's kind of my point. Nesta is nowhere near developed as Willis is, and might not be quite as a good a natural player. Willis made that D run last season.

I'm high on Nesta but right now Bethel is our most experienced DT and that's not good, especially with the inexperience at Safety.

I'm really curious how you think replacing three seniors at DB who all started for two years with three unproven guys will make the secondary better.

Neither Carter or Hall are better than Jaquan Johnson and neither are better than Redwine right now. Replacing Michael Jackson is going to be a huge issue as we have almost zero experience at CB behind Bandy.

I have a close friend who works in the AD (Mother Goose!)

Here’s what he’s told me about the DL in particular:

^Martin will be gone after spring.
^Miller is not explosive and may never play here
^if they get a couple of transfers, Bethel moves back outside

Its called evaluating talent out of high school and using projections based of of our past DB development. All of the freshman DBs were better than all 3 senior DBs coming out of high school. They are faster, and more athletic, pair that with our DB development skill and you can make a prediction they will better. Just because they didn't play doesn't mean they are not good, it just means that the people in front of them knew the system better. We also have Carter, who I guarantee you that he will be a dog he just doesn't seem good because he had amazing players in front of him. And experience is overrated, when it your time to get your chance its time to step up. The fact you said "Neither Carter or Hall are better than Jaquan Johnson and neither are better than Redwine right now", should apply to every team and once a starter leaves for the draft or a starter graduates the level of play should automatically drop. the whole point of football is to have people leave and replace them with better talent.

I'm a big believer in Amari Carter everyone else has already thrown him away because of Bolden, but just sell all your AC5 stock to me, he's gonna ball out his Junior year bank on that.

I haven't written AC5 off, but I do think He's outgrown the Safety position...reminds me of Beason.

Jaquan Johnson was a high school LEGEND in South Florida. Hall is only rated slightly higher than he was and Carter was a bit lower. So... no on that. Mike Jackson will probably be a first round pick. Can you say Ivey, Blades or Frierson would go in the first round if they could be drafted right now? Of course not.

Just because they didn't play doesn't mean they're not good. But it does mean they don't have nearly the same level of experience. Will they be better as seniors? Maybe. Next season? Doubtful.

**** good.

Quarterman, Pinckney, Finley, McCloud will be touted as the country's finest LB corps. They'll write articles about them in the preseason rags. Silvera, Garvin, Rousseau will terrorize. And Bandy, Hall, Carter, Ivey, Blades, Bolden, Keontra, Frierson will form a surprisingly sturdy secondary.

People will find out how good Gerald really was. Remember he didn’t play against Wisconsin

The team packed it in after Rosier's 50th INT.
I wouldn't take much away from that one.

We've lost 7 of the last 8 games we played in sub 50 degree weather: PITT, CLEM, WIS, BC, UVA, GT, VT, WIS.

In 2019 we play 9 games in Florida, with the only possible cold weather games against Pitt, and maybe Duke or UNC. UF, FIU, FSU are sure to be warm.

I think It’s reasonable to expect some drop off but we still will have a very talented secondary and a talented dline which in the scheme we play will always produce results no matter who is in there
Can’t overstate how big it is getting the 3 LBs back. The drop off behind them is pretty scary.

Wow out of everyone leaving one was a 4 star, though very good everybody knew that he was not the most athletic person. Hall, Ivey, Blades, Carter Frierson are all more athletic and have the prototypical size. Ivey though ranked a little lower was still a 4 star. So out of everybody I named only one was not a 4 star. Sheldrick 3*, MJ 3*, so.... Yes on that. Stop acting like MJ is a first round Corner, he is good but not first round material like Greedy williams, Mj had a glaring weakness on inside routes and back shoulder fades, teams just didn't test him. And trying to to say "Can you say Ivey, Blades or Frierson would go in the first round if they could be drafted right now? Of course not" is idiotic to say. They will be better next season, they saw the level that was needed, and know it is sink or swim so, like I said again it just there time to step up. Carter and Bandy will be back there, thats enough experience back there paired up with the most athletic DBs, we had in a while. We also have Bubba Bolden, though might not know the system as much as the experience and is a athletic freak, therefore our backfield will be better.

We losing some key players on defense so what do u guys think about our defense in 2019?
talent wise team is better then last year. the freshman cbs got work. hall/carter/bolden are as talented if not more so then jj and redwine and dt is one issue I can see and that could be filled with 2 transfer dts. I think we remain at top 10 defense this year. the talent at cb with yr experience and way rumph coaches them up sh ould be better at cb then were this year and gonna still get after teams every game I expect more turnovers this year then last though as better athletes at cb/safety

So basically your argument is "these guys had better star ratings so they're going to be better without having played meaningful snaps than three of the guys who were on the #1 Pass D in America last season."

OK, that makes sense.

Wisconsin game has me worried.

Not me, honestly. The team **** near quit after the BC loss. I think some rejuvenation could put this Def in the top 10, honestly. I want to see what Miller can bring b/c honestly, I think Bethel is out of position and is more of a liability playing the interior. We'll see, though. Can't wait.

No I'm saying these guys were better coming out of high school, the only DB leaving that was probably better coming out was JJ. Do u look at high school tapes or what?

Anyone who calls NY city a "****ry vacation" location, needs to have their ***!!! mind examined............too much bent steel will do that.....LMAO.
Everyone doesn't think NY city is that great! Some of us have actually been there a bunch of times to formulate that opinion.
