How do you stop Clemson....

They obviously have better players but they out-coached us too. It ain't like the game was close. Even with better players we would've lost that game.

If guys are out of position, they're out of position. Having a better athlete out there GOING THE WRONG WAY doesn't help us.

You look at Clemson's lower ranked kids and they're ALWAYS dialed in. They play fast cause they know WTF is going on. You can give our defensive staff better athletes but they're STILL gonna have them lined-up wrong at times and staring at the Quarterback while WR's are running freely through our passive zone.

At least with better offensive talent we can make it a shoot-out though.

Keep building.... we have a nice class

and an equalizer when it comes to getting it to par quickly with the transfer portal if we grab the right ones

But first we need to get some sustained winning. I.e 10 win seasons and great recruiting classes... top 10 level with difference makers In the trenches and a good QB....

Skill position players are so plentiful that the “right 3stars” can be super stars in this offense (notice I say right and now all.. look at that bum Wiggins)

yup. think bout clemsons only loss since sunshine got there -- the number 1 overall pick who had the best season from a QB ever. thats the only one who beat sunshine in his clemson career.

Cause turnovers and be able to score with them. A coaching staff that knows what they're doing also helps.

gonna need a QB equal to sunshine to beat them. coach O is back to his baseline but he still is the only one to beat sunshine. takes a lot more than good coaching to beat a team like clemson

Say it again! We'd have to get multiple 5* at every position on D to mask it's deficiencies.

Not exactly. I believe a QB like D'Eriq can get the job done, he just has to have the OL and receivers that an LSU, Bama, or OSU have.

If we swapped defensive coordinators with Clemson I honestly think we can beat them. I think Venables made that big of an impact on our game. And I am not saying baker called a bad game, but Swinney’s clone is on another level.

So if and when we see them again I think we need to change up how we look on def. I watched there GT GAME AND REWATCHED the game we played with them. It was screen after screen after screen. WITH MULTIPLE screens in one play. How and what def do you use to stop something like that?
I also noticed that we weren't getting any pressure on Lawrence like we should do we call more blitzing packages or do we play more of a 3-4spy look? I would really like to see a cornerback blitz added in as well that way if he decides to not throw it to one screen you have the corner ready to kill him when he turns around to throw back to the next screen.
Have a Pizza delivered to Trevors Hotel room at 12am before the game...I know a guy that can make it happen..

He has his kids DIALED IN.

He had under-recruited 3-star white kids at LB kicking our a$$. Even his freakin' son made plays in that game.

I'm convinced that their defensive staffs gives TWO FVCKS about recruiting rankings, at least when they're recruiting certain positions. (particularly LB) I think Clemson actually puts more stock on intangibles. They almost NEVER have elite recruits at Linebacker.

These are the starting Inside Linebackers on their depth chart.

That's why I've been saying, if Clemson offers one of your local kids, you better offer too. Sight unseen, I don't give a ****. I take their evaluations as gospel when it comes to defensive recruits.

It's not just him though...I'm convinced its the S&C coach playing a large part in their culture. I've wanted Venables as HC here for a while now...
But if you take a look at their offense the last 5-7 years or so...sure, they've been loaded top tier WR talent and QB play, but their offensive line has been mind boggling.

You know it's something ridiculous when they have the same amount of OL drafted since 2014, as they have regular season losses in that same time. Loss to Pitt (2016) and Syracuse (2018) while only having John Simpson and Tremayne Anchrum drafted...BOTH of them in this past draft.

True. They’ve pulled there fair share of studs at LB too. I believe they signed the number 1 LB in 20. And the venebles kid was a high 3star prospect. That new WB they have just plays hard. But that front 4 and those corners make the safeties and LBs jobs a lot easier. Venebles routinely has had at least 1 corner who he trust to put on a island in the boundary and just cover... then loads the box with a S..it was kearse, muse, Simmons and now seems to be Troy polumanus JR this year

Clemson does not have a lot of "lower ranked" players unless you're counting the Herbstreits' of the world who are on the team for window dressing. They are 4-5 deep with great players at every position so you can talk about coaching until the cows come home but Clemson runs so many different players in and out during a game there are very few teams who can compete with that. It's like the old days of stock piling players before the 85 rule and they manage to do it.

I do think the new transfer rule will help a bit as there are 4-5* players riding the pine who want to play and will take advantage of the rule.

Guys like this don't have the measurables, but the instincts negate the lack of speed. We've all seen Miami's LB's frozen while a play has basically already happened. It doesn't matter how fast you run a 40 if you don't process and diagnose plays well. Clemson's LB's were always in position. I think Miami's younger LB's will make a difference, once they get on the field.
