If he's willing, of course. I just thought it'd be as good a time as ever as Shaq is on campus but their recruiting journey is still a fresh experience too. Just a thought as Shaq Daddy is great about answering questions in other threads and is always interesting so it might be cool to see a bunch of them in a single thread here during a relatively quiet period in the year.

I just had a friend ask me if I knew about the way Manny Diaz coaches players to tackle. Apparently it's some unorthodox technique that he preaches to prevent injuries and if done correctly its supposed to be more efficient.. he said a Texas fan told him this so it could be made up bs just because what happened at Texas. Idk

Never heard anything of this.. but since he is Shaq's DC and position coach just wondering if you have heard anything from Shaq about this? UknowWhat

There was a thread on this topic a while back. He is actually not doing anything that new. Other coaches are doing it in college and pros. It basically employs rugby tackling techniques.

There's a video on YouTube somewhere with Pete Carroll and the Seahawks showing that style of tackling.

Ok. I think the guys he talked to blew it out of proportion saying it was some unheard of tackling technique that is too hard for anyone and that was the reason he failed at Texas. Kinda figured it was nothing too different.

Is it the thing that going around about taking the head out of tackling to prevent concussions? That type of thing?

When I helped out at a HS last year before the season we had to go to a clinic to teach this stuff. If that's all it is its nothing out of the ordinary.

That's exactly what it is. Taking the head out of tackling. The Seahawks is one of the best defenses in the league since Carroll got there and there's no issue with their tackling. They call it "Hawk Tackling" if anybody wants to look it up for yourself. I'm at work and can't go on YouTube to find it.

The guy is nice enough to post on here from time to time. That should be enough. Let him be.

This what your Texas Fan friend was referring to. OMG this looks ridiculous and is against what these kids have been trained to do since pop warner.

Its how rugby players tackle. safe and it works.

Don't like Hawk tackling - would you prefer the previous style of the secondary -- the Swiss cheese tackle or the I can't play the rest of the game or the first half of the next tackle?
