Anyone on this team that’ll get drafted by Rd 3 should go. With that being said no one should go.1). I have always been exponentially higher on Homer than Dallas, both as a college player and pro prospect.
2). Running backs have a shorter shelf life than most athletes, Frank Gore's deal with the devil aside. lol. So I fully expect Homer to leave after this season.
3). I see him being a day one draft pick. He'll run a sub 4.4 forty at the UM pro day and will have plenty of film of him both running hard and showing breakaway speed. In short, he runs the way NFL GM's like.
If I had to guess today, I'd say late 2nd round, 3rd at the latest.
Duke went in the 3rd round. Walton in the 4th...while coming off an injury.
Another year, another UM running back for this board to overrate.
I like Travis Homer, I think he's a good player. As far as I know, he's a decent individual so I only wish him the best. The unfortunate truth is, he's not that special of a running back. He's small by NFL standards, has no experience as a return specialist and is often taken out of the game for pass protection purposes. He's reasonably fast for a <200 lb running back and he's proven to be an ace on kick coverage so he will play in the NFL. He's Mark Walton lite.
I think a lot of UM fans need to start watching other teams on Saturdays and not just UM. We have this delusion that our team is loaded with NFL players when in reality it's not. There's a few sure fire early picks and a handful of draft-able players. Outside of the obvious guys, the NFL isn't salivating over Miami's roster.

who's roster are they salivating over?. We had 6 get picked last year.
Mid late rounds... Homer is very durable and has great hands plus he’s been very good on special teams during his earlier years. He’s talented but hasn’t had a banner year and is splitting carries with DJ.
I would guess he’d be drafted in the late rounds. Not sure why he’d stay, given the OL awfulness and the risk of injury.
So he’s gone, right?
Walton is Homer lite....
Career vs. P5
Homer - Averaged 4.5 ypc or less in 7 of his 19 games (37%). Career 5.6 ypc
Walton - Averaged 3.5 ypc or less in 16 of his 22 games (73%). Career 3.8 ypc
Spot Walton a full yard, and he's still nowhere close to Homer
Career vs. ACC
Homer - 201 att - 1,086 yds - 5.4 ypc
Walton - 230 att - 949 yds - 4.1 ypc
Homer has more career rushing yards than Walton vs. FSU, Clemson, VT, ND, GT, UNC, Duke & UVA. Walton has more vs. Pitt
Career Special Teams
Homer - 13 solo tackles, 2 fumble recoveries
Walton - 4 solo tackles, 0 fumble recoveries
Walton - 17.3 yd avg per kick return. Eduardo Clements averaged 19.5 yds. Malcolm Lewis averaged 21.3 yds. Walton wasn't good.
Walton just played Special Teams. Homer excels at it.
Size & Athleticism
Homer - 5-11, 205 lb, 4.4 40. HS Sparq - 126.5
Walton - 5-10, 202 lb, 4.6 40. HS Sparq - 91.4
Homer will test better in every combine measurement, except maybe bench press.
WalterFootball doesn't even have Homer in its list of Top 24 running back prospects for the 2019 Draft.
Not even in the Top 24.
Dude better stay in school.
Mark Walton got drafted in the 4th round coming off a season ending injury. Homer would be lucky to get picked in the 4th even if he's 100% healthy. NFL executives don't care about college stats nearly as much as fans do. This board argued for pages over Yearby vs Walton and how early each would get drafted. Yearby supporters rattled off a bunch of statistics just like you did claiming the numbers say he was a better prospect than Walton. Yet when the draft rolled around, Walton got picked in the 4th (could have been higher if not for injury) and Yearby never even got a free agent offer.

Agree, no one site is dispositive. That said, Homer better run a 4.45 40 and show out at the Combine to get a legit 3rd round grade. We shall see.It all depends on where you look:
Draft Network - 2 of 5 analysts have Homer as a Top 10 RB - https://thedraftnetwork.com/2018/08/27/2019-prospect-rankings-running-back/
CBS - Homer's the #9 RB and #99 overall prospect - https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospect-rankings/
Draftek - Homer's the #14 RB and #182 overall prospect - https://www.drafttek.com/2019-NFL-Draft-Prospect-Rankings/Top-College-RBs-2019-Draft.asp
So it'll vary depending on where you look. None of these even have Dexter Williams ranked, so there's a lot of updating to go before the draft.
Doesn’t mean walton does eitherCan’t teach vision and homer sadly doesn’t have it
Walton had very solid production as a sophomore and was playing lights out as a junior before the injury. If I remember correctly, he was getting over 7 yards per carry when he went down. It's not like he had no body of work for scouts to make a judgement on. His balance, vision and versatility got him drafted.I thought Yearby was definitely a more effective runner than Walton in 2015, and still was in 2016. I never thought either should get drafted, and both were NFL journeyman at best.
Yearby was also 185 lb. running a 4.7 and Walton was 200 lb. running a 4.6. I'd say Yearby was a slightly better college RB, but Walton would have a better chance of making an NFL team based on measurables.
Walton was drafted largely off of reputation, not production. Richt called him the best football player he's ever coached. He had the reputation as "the best RB in the ACC". Both were wild overstatements.
In a weird way - Walton's injury helped him. If he stayed healthy, was average for a 3rd year in the ACC, was outperformed by Homer, and ran a 4.6 at the combine - that would've hurt his draft stock. All of which I think would've happened. The injury provided a rational, reasonable excuse for that.
Now, yes Walton was a 4th round pick. But look at how he's played this year. Should he have been?
Homer's reputation has never been higher than Walton's, but his ability always has.
