Highsmith to the U?

All big boy schools have a guys like this

look man..all the big boy schools have guys like this. And Alonzo is not a guy who brings nothing to the table. He’s been all over the country observing the best schools. He knows what championship football should look like and how it the front offices operate like
Whoa... Im saying the Footballville commemts were off.... Im a fan. bringing Highsmith...

Question: Considering Mario's flameout this weekend to the mighty Utes....

Does putting him with Highsmith get him over the hump?

There has to be a head. You can't have someone running something and their nominal boss having less power than they do.

Now, could I see Zo being the Asst AD with a tacit agreement that Jurich grooms him to be the AD down the line? Yes and that would be a solid arrangement. However, Zo may not want to wait his turn and may want to be THE MAN. There is also the power dynamic of Zo being a former player and probably untouchable if hired. What happens if Jurich and Zo disagree on the direction of the program? Who wins that battle? Jurich is an outsider..
Yep too many chefs, especially if you bring in a strong personality like Mario or Kiff…

I do not understand the fascination with Jurich. Louisville is a crap program
?... Crap since he left? Because Jurich hasn't been there since October 2017.

His last full year there:

The football team went 9-4, 7-1 in conference, including a 63-20 win over FSU.

The basketball team was a 25 win 2 seed.

The baseball team finished 50-14.

With all the underclassmen who have turned pro and been drafted in the 7th round, I truly believe that many would be excited by the hiring of a 20-year NFL professional with a background in scouting and personnel evaluation, regardless of what his diploma says.
Every kid looking to leave early gets a draft evaluation. Why should we PAY for a guy to do that?

These kids were told over and over again the reality of their situations. Instead they chose to listen to the agents who were only looking for a buck. Alonzo won't keep that from happening.

No AD could ever fire Zo, Zo is a beloved former Cane from Columbus, the BOT ain’t moving him at all once he gets hired...

If anything, the AD would be on the chopping block long before Zo ever would.

In Miami, the former players run the program, what they say goes.
L - with all due respect, but what former players have been running the program at UM?

Only one has been hired in Shannon in any position of power.

Coker, Golden, Blake, Manny weren’t Canes!

Pat was my boy back in the day...used to kick it with him on the regular....If people think Kiffin slays alot of Honeys...they'd be floored on the Babes Pat had at UM....and all were 10s...I'm talking ridiculously Fine...
I’ve been with him when in Philly. This is 💯

I love it! Clear sign The U, Admin, Boosters and Power Elites taking this football thing serious. The chosen AD, I like Jurich, and the HC will say it all to fans, recruits and HS coaches.

Maybe the search committee was just for backgrounding Jurich’s situation at Lville and adidas and making sure he’s clean enough to hire and bring into our current situation (since we’re an adidas school)

I have no problem whatsoever with Zo as the assistant or deputy AD, being groomed to eventually take over or in an operations role where he oversees various aspects of the athletic department to ensure the mess that became of this program never happens again.

Lol lol my fault my fault.

But no. I have trepidation’s about Mario as a game day coach..I think he’s too too conservative..he wants to win playing complimentary football, physical etc..Imo his offensive Philosophy is archaic..he had Herbert and ppl had no clue he was this good based on what he’ was running at Oregon..and he was solid at Oregon but Mario still had inexcusable losses based on the philosophy..I think if he changed that and was willing to attack more and run similar schemes to Lashlee now he’d be elite because there’s no questioning his ability to get talent.

If Highsmith didnt play for UM how excited would people really be about this? If he is hired, I wish him the best and hope he is successful but outside his connection to Miami I am not really sure about the buzz.

None and no one would care. If we bring in a competent AD with passion and autonomy AND said AD wanted Zo, that is a different thing altogether.

I think you're mistaken.

We're all speculating about what Alonzo's role could or would be, but judging from his background in the Packers scouting or personnel department, if he is hired as a general manager of sorts and is primarily tasked with finding recruits to fulfill the head coach's vision, why would that encroach on the AD?
Hadn’t thought about it that way, but I like how you think.

So basically you and the Giology guy repeatedly post about this AD issue without one bit of knowledge for how other major athletic departments and professional teams work. Got it.
I was a sport management major and spent 3 years working in different sports organizations in Philadelphia 😂 I have several friends that work in athletic departments and also professional sports organizations.

Look, I am 100% on board with Zo being chief of staff or director of player personnel reporting directly into the HC. Him supporting with recruiting and transfer portal responsibilities is totally up his alley and I think he would crush it. But I view that as a support staff role. Not an admin role reporting into AD.

And I would want the HC to hire Zo. Not the board. If there’s no AD in place I’m not sure why we’d rush to hire Zo.
