FWIW, Butch had a similar problem outside of Dorsey.

His QBs were Kenny Kelly, Ethenic Sands, Derrick Crudup and TJ Prunty.

Those of us who were on the boards for Butch remember that the same (valid) criticisms of Mario were there with Butch.
Erickson left the cupboards bare for Butch...Especially at QB and OL besides K.C Jones...let's stop the nonsense...Erickson's Recruiting was absolute Trash from 92-94...

Lashlee leaving would all but end the “keep Manny” circle jerk out there. He would have to replace both an OC and himself as DC? It’s a wrap on that (even though it was before this)

We're not close to them. But the youth squad model is now in use at every MLS club and the youth systems are expanding massively. More clubs are getting built by the day.

Process is slow, and there will never be the same per capita concentration of clubs. But that's exactly the model that MLS clubs are now following.

Yes. Never understood why it took so long for MLS franchises to invest in youth academies.

And franchises are starting to overlap more and more with some pretty soccer-heavy areas, now that Charlotte and St. Louis are getting MLS franchises. I had a niece and a nephew in the Orlando City youth system for a couple of years, but they lost interest.

IDK what is up with LAX now but it was a club sport , along with hockey, during the years my kids were there (2012-2020)
Lacrosse is a club sport. My son plays. They had a scrimmage against FAU last month. I wish I could post the videos. He took out two kids. He is playing closed and d middie as well.

Absolute truth. The recruiting "pitch" was "hey, 90 percent of our players over the past decade have won at least 1 ring". Very complacent and unfocused on scouting/evaluations.

Don't want to have flashbacks of Erickson's smug "I'm sleeping with his mother" comment when he was questioned about giving a scholarship to his son Bryce.

And don't even get me started on the lack of discipline once guys like Lubick and Orgeron were gone...

It's not a sport you just pick up. There's a reason pros have been playing since they could walk.
Years and years of strengthening endurance, agility, technique, core strength, etc. These guys are AVERAGING 3-4 miles in a game, a lot of them are sprinting half the time. it’s no coincidence that some of the best athletes in the world are soccer players.

Costa took an absolutely beating in the Orange Bowl. Of course, by the time we played FSU in 1997 with limited scholarships, Clement and Covington literally got mauled. The fact Butch pieced together a very good offense in 1998 is nothing less than spectacular.

My Wife & myself stood with Covingtons Mom behind the Sidelines at the UM vs UCLA game in 98...she flew in from Cali specifically for that game...Wonderful woman...

Because of Title IX – a federal civil rights law prohibiting *** discrimination in education — having men's soccer would mean men's athletics at the Florida schools would outnumber women's, which is prohibited under the law.
It's about proportional representation. There isn't a women's sport that takes up as many scholarships as football. So, most schools end up having fewer men's sports to compensate.

Plus there are partner academies/teams in Europe. MLS teams make some good bank for their best players that move abroad even if there is no partnership (Busio, Richards, Aaronson, etc). My team, Bayern Munich has a sister club in FC Dallas. Get their best players over there - Richards, Che, Pepi, etc).
