Here's what I know

I know Mas and others are pushing more than Lemonis, but if you’ve ever watched his show the Profit, the way the Miami BOT is acting is a mirror image

A once successful operation is in the dumps for allowing a highly unqualified individual(s) run things. Lemonis (Jurich) comes in pushing for change and the current owners can’t see the solution right in front of their face and weasels into some half assed in between scenario that’s destined to fail. Then Lemonis splits because they aren’t committed to changing for the better

What's the Louisville situation? Getting cleared of all allegations is not enough for UM?

Butch was fired for entrenched UNC practices that had been going on for decades - he was PROVEN he had nothing to do with any of it - and we still have zeroes here that think he did something wrong - and also conveniently forget UM screwed him on contract negotiations.

And we haven't been worth **** since Butch's players started graduating.

Maybe UM learns their lesson this time - and realize this is business - big business - and you get the best man for the job - even if he's not perfect - like the Administration is - or the BOT is - you know, all perfect?

What is the downside to freeze or kiffin? Seriously these safe boring *** hires over the past 20 years have made Miami look bad and cost us any semblance of respect. How is freeze or kiffin gonna negatively affect us anymore than that. Who are the stakeholders that stand to lose something? What are the consequences. I just don't buy this goody two shoes ****.

You can say it, and you are entitled to that opinion.

But I don't think that the BOT sees "damage caused by bad hires who had no other red flags, just poor performance" as equivalent to "damage caused by hiring someone with known red flags in the background check".

Any of the hires, from Coker to Shannon to Golden to Richt, including Freeze or Kiffin, may fail to win as many games as they should at Miami. But the potential for "scandal" is greater with some of those names.

****, we could pull old threads to find many UM fans were just as optimistic about Coker/Shannon/Golden/Richt as some posters are, right now, about Freeze/Kiffin.

Hey, remember when @Go Canes!! called people delusional a few days ago for saying that Daddy Diaz was heavily involved in this **** and putting pressure on the BoT to keep Manolo? Because I sure do.

Dude was saying that it was just a myth.

Wrong on the 15-0 bullshyt, and now wrong on this, too. I’m not surprised. If he was a baseball player, he’d be batting .000.

You were saying?

Stick to stupid emojis doofus. You’re out of your depth when the adults are talking.

Hire announced next week? Not a done deal? I thought it was done and being announced today.

At this point I’m thinking Manny isn’t done for sure and will earn another year with two strong wins.

What about the 20-30 million floor? Is that going to happen or nah?
They're going to need that $20-30m to cover the black hole left from no fans turning up to games.

The whole Diaz situation is toxic - with the fans, with his own players, with recruits. It's madness that him returning is even being discussed.

Phil has a 50 year history of NOT doing that.
This is not the same. Like some of the posters on this board and the big miami people, I am only a few degrees of separation from Phil. He is 50 years older now, and he wants a football title before he dies. I will wager a 1 month, lifetime ban on it. He WILL match or exceed anything we offer, it is going to come down to how badly Mario misses home.

Mario doesn’t need Miami to get more money out of Oregon. And if Mario wants to return to his alma mater, I guarantee you Phil will give him his blessing.

--in 50 years, the only "national search" that Oregon did...yielded Taggart from USF
--in 50 years, Oregon has elevated the OC to Head Coach...FOUR TIMES, rather than make a splash hire or retention bid
--in 50 years, Oregon has never set some new benchmark for what it would pay its head coaches; yes, Oregon HCs get raises and extensions if they stay long enough, but not "Mel Tucker" raises and extensions; Oregon continues to pay (relatively) moderate salaries to its HCs

For 50 years, Oregon has had Nike money. Oregon has had Phil Knight money. Phil Knight watched his biggest earner win two three-peats with the Chicago Bulls, but ONLY NOW in 2021 does Phil finally feel the competitive urge to spend some of his billions on a head coach for his alma mater?

Yeah, that's not really what is happening here.

And I'm not saying he WON'T offer a raise. Let's say Mario was at $5M and Miami offered $6M. OF COURSE the incumbent school would match the offer. But if Mario was at $5M and Miami offers $10M and Mario wants to go back to Miami, Phil is not going to act like a jilted lover and offer $10M only to be rejected. The man is much smarter and cooler-under-negotiation-pressure than that.

Not going to be a lot of back-and-forth. Not going to be some huge Oregon offer. Phil doesn't make himself out to be a mark. Phil doesn't permanently alter the Oregon pay structure and pay expectations by throwing huge money at the incumbent coach who still has yet to attain a final ranking (#2) that THREE of Mario's predecessors all achieved (Bellotti, Kelly, and Helfrich).

I love Mario, but some people act as if he has done something unprecedented at Oregon, when he hasn't even hit the heights that three of his four predecessors did.

I really hope you are right, I think we are going to end up offering Mario way more than he is worth. Or, he will be making much more next year to stay in Eugene.

The big positive is the young farts are the ones pushing for change and using a lot of their own money to pursue it. They’re willing to out their money where their mouths are.

The money thats been talked about being thrown around probably makes the people who don’t care about football sphincters pucker. That’s what calms my nerves when i get annoyed about it.
It might actually be good and some of the old farts actually leave the BOT.

I hear you. It's hard to define "worth" when the market is going nuts. I've had this discussion many times within companies that I've worked for.

The labor shortage is real, not just at restaurants. Honestly, beyond Saban and Swinney, who else is a slam-dunk can't-miss college football coach without SOME flaw or prior failure or red flag issue?

Agreed. But for 35 years, I've watched "young Trustees" shuffle off to the "Emerit Trustees" section, and NEVER ******* GO AWAY. It's like they got tenure.

I'd love to see term limits. And/or "Emeriti" status ONLY for former Chairs of the BOT. Good lord, Gloria Estefan is Emeriti. Bernie Kosar is Emeriti. I love them, but we have too many.

I am surprised we dont have that.

Swinney actually has red flags tho lol. This fan base loves him bc he hires unqualified former players 😂
