Sounds more like the people who are going to pony up 7 figures of their own money are focused on that guy.Once again, this school is laser focused on one guy. Lane wants this job and all they can think about is Mario. They probably won't even talk to Lane.
Very good post.
My sources tell me that Alonzon is a done deal, GM of football. Thought I don't know the name, I expect the AD to be announced today. Personaly I hope it's Dan Radakovich. As for HC, my understanding is that Mario wants to come home. The Utah loss helped us greatly. He wants the position and the "powers that be" want him. Money is no object. Important people were out in Oregon last week.
It is cronyism and nepotism because Mario is related to one of the power brokersI'll take cronyism over nepotism every day . Cronyism sometimes can actually work if the candidate is qualified. I believe Mario is qualified.
He's put his time in. Learned along the way.
Lane is Mike Leach only younger.........
Mind you, I would also take either one of those 2......
Exactly what I read as well. That's EXACTLY what we need. All I hear is a lot of nepotism
Thank you for saying it out loud, literally thought the same thing. Utah is a really physical football team, maybe not win by 14 but they would've faired well in the ACC.One more thing..for people clowning Mario that he cant win in a weak Pac 12..? Utah would have beat every team in the ACC running away this year and would have won every Coastal game by 2 TDs. Plus Mario has 2-3 conference titles the last time I checked while at Oregon..The level of talent that Mario will see in the ACC Coastal is such a joke that he could win it just off having top 5-10 recruiting classes every year. Now winning ACC and National titles is a different story. Will take more than just having talent.
I know it!! They spend so much time trying to avoid pain, when the simple truth is - everything has pain waiting for you. So, they should choose their pain (in this case, the possibility of receiving negative press) and go with the choice that has the potential to yield the highest rewards.Funny that the BoT members that are sooooo worried about image
are seemingly ok with our athletic teams being the laughingstock of the nation
You think Bobby Bowden was an Xs and Os coach?Exactly what I read as well. That's EXACTLY what we need.
I'm sorry, Mario is better than Manny, but it's a **** of a price for a guy that is simply better than Manny. I want an Xs and Os coach that can kick the crap out of teams with our talent advantage AND with his coaching skills. If we are relying on out talenting people, we're going to fail miserably. If recruiting is his thing, I'll just remind you what Bobby Bowden said about great recruiters. They are known as great recruiters because they can recruit, but not coach. If they were a great coach, they'd be called a great coach.
I don't want the nepotism anymore. Yes, Mario would be an upgrade. No, he's not worth breaking the bank for. The only, ONLY reason they are willing to pay him so much is because he's one of their own. Is that really what we want? Haven't we learned anything?
I am assuming the vote was for the person, not approving the contract. Any idea on timeline for the contract and announcement if that's the case?People don’t know the results of the vote. Most folks assume it’s one guy because of the people backing him.
Most BOT don't put as much emphasis on athletic success as the regular fan.Funny that the BoT members that are sooooo worried about image

Possibly one oversees football, one oversees everything else? That would be interesting. Maybe Associate AD?I have no sources on this, purely speculation.
But I don’t view Alonzo’s potential position as a carve out from the AD. But rather more of a supportive roll from a talent evaluation standpoint.
You could argue it’s too many cooks in the kitchen, but in this transfer age of CFB having a full time former nfl executive assisting with recruiting snd with transfers is a no brainer
Count me out on Lane
He seems like a weird guy. Don't think he'd be able to recruit like we need.
I think there are three groups here: One wants Tony, the other Jurich and the third needs to be convinced.Funny that the BoT members that are sooooo worried about image

This is backwards. What it is is rich guys putting their buddy over and people just getting in line because he played at the school.
