Here's what I know

If we put the U connection aside and look at these 2 - Mario and Lane - in the proper context, Mario is the obvious choice.

Mario is:
Clean as a whistle - no questions about character
Proven P5 HC
A few question marks about decision making but nothing that can’t be rectified

Lane is:
A lot of flash and not a lot of substance
Questionable character
History of moving frequently

I’d prefer a HC of high character that will more than likely stay a while. Add in the fact that Mario has the U and SFL connections and I believe it’s a no brainer. Whether or not it comes to fruition is yet to be seen.
Lane Kiffin is on track for his 4th 10 win season. What is the lack of substance that you speak of?

Lane inherited the number 1 QB in the nation. How did he do without him against a bad Auburn team this year? Put up 20 points and lost. Nick Saban isn’t walking through the door. If we get Mario OR Lane that is a massive win at this point.
He did? I don't recall hearing **** about Matt Corral before Lane got there. And he wasn't a number 1 QB recruit either, so what are you talking about?

I really don't agree that Kiffin is all flash, no substance.

He's a **** of a HC. Maybe he's not the right fit here and maybe he's not a long-term solution, but the dude can flat out coach.

What Lane did at FAU was remarkable. The win totals the previous 8 years were 5, 4, 1, 3, 2, 3, 3, 3. He won 11 games his first year and 10 in his 3rd.

As you know I’m not anti Lane, we’ve actually had back in forths where I defended him. I’m just being honest , I don’t see how one rips Mario but slurps Lane.
I can explain it from the perspective where I would be ecstatic about either, but favor Lane.

Lane would be one of the first coaches we have hired to get the best out of our talent on offense and run a system that caters to South Florida "athletes". Is he an *******? Yes, but he also is who he is and doesn't apologize for it. He reminds me of Jimmy, in the sense that he has his players and will go to bat for them no matter what, rather than throw them under the bus which is what Manny does.

Also, he has shown to learn from past mistakes, and already has 2 decades worth of experience across a multitude of levels, and is still only 46. So even more room to grow. His decision to hire an OC this year shows that.

This is Lane and Cristobal's 10th season as a HC. If each gets to 10 this season it will be Lane's 4th 10 win season and Mario's 2nd.
I’m not sure what to say to this apparently we’re impressed by FAU seasons… they’re both likely to end up with 10 win seasons this year, one guy inherited a first round qb, the other has little sisters of the poor throwing. One is building up a program, the other is looking to bail again knowing he’s losing half his team to graduation. One beat the best team on their schedule, the other lost to the two best teams on theirs.

I think lane would be a fun hire and would probably get us to the ACC the game next year, but let’s stop acting like he’s a sure thing. I’d be a **** of a lot more comfortable with a guy I know is leaving a really nice situation (ie he’s probably staying here if he moves) than the guy whod be at his 6th stop in 15 years, if the dudes name wasn’t Kiffin would he even be in coaching still?

Mostly, his frequent moves have not allowed him any real consistency. He’s shown flashes but bolts before he establishes himself as a consistent winner.

Jurich + Freeze = National Title in year 3…and massive NCAA sanctions in Year 4.

Decent trade off.

Dorsey Lit up Greentree the summer of 99...against a secondary that would finish #4 in America, that didn't give up a TD the last 27 quarters of the season....I too had my doubts until I witnessed that...It was only a matter of time for him, regardless of Kenny Kelly's injury.

when KK didn't participate in spring ball (a huge no-no for a QB) that was a big issue.

Why not? We might fall to number 70 in recruiting from 61? Also there’s ways around buyouts if both schools agree to negotiate. Why make both teams be held hostage waiting on the obvious?
well, it can't be "money won't be an object here anymore" *and* "we're going to wait until after the early signing period to hire our coach because his buyout will be lower." it's one or the other.
