Here's what I know on Mark Matthews...

Are you serious? The sky was falling on here 3 days ago.

So it will take a hit from the same emotional women posing as men on this board who had the sky falling an hour before the Wright news, then all was well, and now it’s falling again. Those people? That’s my point.
Yes, the reputation as a top recruiter would take a hit or at least be questioned. It would be discussed. “How did we end up outside the top 10 and miss out on some of our top targets, especially Matthews, after going to the Natty last year?” It’s a conversation that is already being and has been discussed by the fanbase, if it were to actually happen, there would be a whole thread about it.

My only minor complaint is that Mario spent way too much resources and time on Matthews. He should have been more focused on Olu and Folorunshu .Hate to lose both of them to ND but ya never know. It's a long season for sure.

Are you suggesting the market/cap for DL is impacted by MM recruitment? Or are you suggesting Mario dosn't know how to manage his time with big-time recruits?

What is this based on?

Every team misses out on some of their top targets, even the team that ends up with the mythical #1 class that you guys ********** about.

It's who you get that matters, not who you don't get.

I see.
I guess my point is, so what? There has been a discussion along those lines every year at some point for the past 3 cycles. Unless we have the #1 class (which will never happen), it will continue to be a discussion. This is a message board and people are never satisfied, so people will discuss things on said message board. If Mario’s recruiting reputation “takes a hit” from these people, then what?

Dmoney just said miami has the biggest offer in for Matthews so basically the kid just doesn’t want to be here
So he picked the weaker offensive line development, the weaker overall program, the weaker academics, and the worse campus for less money? Make that make sense. Do people actually buy this lol
I mean he said he wanted to play in the sec

The number 1 class stuff and UM is comical.

It really is.

It will never happen.

Yes, because he doesn’t want to be here and that’s okay. We will 10000% be fine without him. Why is that so difficult for some to fathom?

That's cool that he wants to do that, but that still doesn't change anything. A&M want's the narrative to be that he's picking them for less money lol. They think we're dumb
How come it doesn’t? All those things you said is better at Miami doesn’t mean Matthews feels the same way

It's very simple. If I was Mario I would have pushed heavily to get both committments especially OLU. Out of the blue ND comes in and now it looks like he's going there. I have turned into a big Mario fan and before I wasn't. I think his ego got to him trying to convince Matthews to come to UM but the kid wanted out of South Fl. We move on and a lesson learned. I have plenty of faith in the present program and direction we are headed. I do expect us to be in the National Championship Game again as long as Mensah stays healthy. So you deduce whatever you like but yes, in this case Mario spent too much time and energy on Matthews. I'm not suggesting he can't manage his time with big time recruits at all. In this case yes but he's done a very good job in recruiting in my opinion.

What does that have to do with his hit/miss rate on HS recruiting? You do realize we have been buoyed significantly by transfers, right?
Like every other team in America?

You don't sound intelligent.

Stay blessed.
Those other teams don’t put their 5 stars in the league? Mario got 2 5 star OL in one class, 1 became a top 10 pick the other one is a backup. Matter of fact, the only 5 stars Mario has put in the league so far is CiCi and Kayvon. Mario had 3, 5 stars at Oregon in one class that didn’t pan out. I know you guys haven’t forgotten Justin Flowe in here. In Mario’s first 3 classes here, the transfers and misses far outweigh the hits.

If he wanted to go there so bad, then why not commit 4-5 weeks ago when apparently he had his mind made up? He literally scheduled a Miami OV just to get more money from A&M. Of course, Texas A&M wants the narrative out there that he's going there for less money. That's buy design lol

Additional variables:
1. Change of scenery. This isn't like Toney where he'll be a hometown hero. That just doesn't happen for OL. Maybe he just wants to go somewhere out of Florida.
2. He's seen practice and he knows the roster. He might feel like his talent is enough to take him to the NFL and wants to go with a school that will give him early PT and not be quite as demanding. The mindset of getting to the NFL as soon as possible still exists.

Of course, he could still choose Miami. I'd be overjoyed if he did.

The info isn’t coming from a&m. You don’t think the staff knows what the offers are? And they are saying they offering more money than a&m

You can say,” so what” or “who cares, move on” to just about everything in THIS thread alone. But yet, here we are at 52 pages. People will talk about it, on here, on social media, in spaces, on FB, on Reddit. But so what, who cares?
