Here's what I know on Mark Matthews...

If he wanted to go there so bad, then why not commit 4-5 weeks ago when apparently he had his mind made up? He literally scheduled a Miami OV just to get more money from A&M. Of course, Texas A&M wants the narrative out there that he's going there for less money. That's buy design lol
You're trying to rationalize and be logical about a kid who is strongly considering going to Texas ATM. I'm not even being facetious or flippant when I say that. You need to look at the Aggies the same way you look at a cult.

As a general rule, I am highly suspicious of anyone considering Texas ATM or Clemson. They're entire mindset is wired different if they are considering those schools.

I would be shocked if they land Matthews OR Folorunsho.
@jsy @JADood Get your grubby little fingers ready to type away angrily on Friday
I already told you guys about Matthews a couple days ago when EJ put the word out about his OV.
Do we think EJ putting out the article had an impact with TAMU upping the pressure to get Matthews to commit now? If I remember correctly, him posting info early got him in trouble with the Michigan brass/ fans for exactly that.
I don’t want to seem like I’m GLOATING (i’m not) but this was my 3rd comment after the EJ article dropped.

You can say,” so what” or “who cares, move on” to just about everything in THIS thread alone. But yet, here we are at 52 pages. People will talk about it, on here, on social media, in spaces, on FB, on Reddit. But so what, who cares?

Of course. Like I just said, this is a message board, people will post **** and talk, myself included. I’m saying what does that do at the end of the day? Is any of this recruiting reputation taking a hit effecting anything on the field in the fall? All the *****ing and complaining that took place a year ago after we finished w the #14 class led to what? If all folks have are “This is going to be a huge hit on Mario’s recruiting rep!!!!”, then have at it big dawg. Enjoy that.

Got ran out of Texas a while back also.

People saying the #1 class stuff will never happen is just ridiculous. USC just had the #1 class last year. If the people in charge are determined to get the #1 class then the resources can be put together. But imo, the #1 class thing is just optics. If we hold on to three 5 stars and sign more high level 4 stars and sit at the #6 class, that’s still perfectly good enough. It’s the culture and coaching mixed with talent that does it. No one believes in Lincoln Riley’s culture at this point, why he will never win big.

Additional variables:
1. Change of scenery. This isn't like Toney where he'll be a hometown hero. That just doesn't happen for OL. Maybe he just wants to go somewhere out of Florida.
2. He's seen practice and he knows the roster. He might feel like his talent is enough to take him to the NFL and wants to go with a school that will give him early PT and not be quite as demanding. The mindset of getting to the NFL as soon as possible still exists.

Of course, he could still choose Miami. I'd be overjoyed if he did.

Sir,
rational thinking will get you nowhere in this chat....................

They had the number 1 class cause they took like 5011 recruits.

So, it matters to hype his recruiting prowess. But if the results to back that claim don’t happen, it doesn’t matter. Makes sense. My apologies, I was confused for a second.

Not to me.
Just like it didn’t 2-3 years ago when we were winning recruiting battles and our fans were on twitter gloating but we were getting our asses kicked on the field. This fanbase cared about everything except what actually mattered, which was the W/L column. That’s all that will ever matter to me. I said it then and say it now. You aren’t confused, you aren’t stupid. I personally think you just have too much fun and get carried away with this, JMO.

True but they also signed three 5 stars vs Miami’s 1 and they also had the better average ranking so. They signed 35 and Miami signed 31. Not nearly as big a difference in size as they were compared to the #2 class in Oregon that signed 11 less players than USC, 3 five stars and 16 four star.

You got to be willing to spend big money to get the #1 class and they don’t seem willing to go to that extent. I think top 5-10 will consistently be the range

Agreed. Just don’t think people need to say it’s not possible. USC had no momentum year 4 of Riley and they decided to spend. It’s not like all the sudden he became an elite recruiter and people are lining up to play for him. It’s money

You keep stacking talent looking to the future, so cant just dismiss losing out. But its not an immediate critical. If they get in some elite DL, i can live with it, without making excuses on losing out.

Money and the cali kids are more willing to stay home and they have the poly connection. About 20+ of their class was either from cali or poly

So he picked the weaker offensive line development, the weaker overall program, the weaker academics, and the worse campus all for less money? Make that make sense. Do people actually buy this lol
I know it’s hard to fathom but some of these kids who spent their whole life here wanna experience something different. I was playing hoops with a 4 star recruit who committed to us then decomitted and when we asked why he wasn’t coming here he in so many words said Miami is cool but he wanted to experience something different. His said his preferred school was Bama but he was **** near willing to go to a lesser program just to leave Miami. Malachi has helped immensely with the stay home mindset but South Florida kids haven’t been loyal to us in a long time if ever
