Henry Ruggs

Hate to say it, but Ruggs should get the book thrown at him. No ifs, ands or buts about it. This is senseless and 100% avoidable. It's one thing to drive after having a drink or 2, but it's a whole 'other thing to go 150+ mph while impaired. I have no sympathy for the accused, just for the victims. I see it way too many times down here on I-95 cars going 100+ mph, swerving in and out of traffic with no regard for others. MFers like that should rot in ****!

Ruggs is a 190 lb adult man. That's big by normal standards. That's not 2-3 drinks unless they're generous doubles. Guessing not the first time he's gone out for a few drinks either.. And no I've never gotten beyond the wheel when I would tested 2x the legal limit.

I read that NV law has a wide sentence range of 2-20 for vehicular homicide. I’m sure there are factors to determine where a defendant falls within that range but I’d be very surprised if Riggs is not sentenced to at least 10 years in Prison considering the combo of alcohol and speed.
His attorney will have letters from coaches and teammates about how he is a great person but the facts are terrible. What a waste of 2 lives.

Back in the 90s, before MADD did the lord's work, you drove drunk to get home. It was hard to get caught, and if you did it seemed like it was a slap on the wrist. You had to go to a driver education alcohol program and pay a nominal fine.

Thank God it's been turned into a serious crime and the peer pressure nowadays, seemingly, is to not let friends drive drunk anymore.

But all that said, back then when people drove drunk (despite being impaired where you don't have good judgment of course), you drove super slow and super careful because obviously you didn't want to get caught. So to be driving 150 mph plus down a residential street strikes me as almost an attempted suicide. Just a complete disregard for his safety, his girlfriend's safety and that of strangers. Bizarre and tragic. If the street is where I think it is, it would be defying the law of physics to drive that fast more than a few blocks without destroying your car and ending up in the hospital. That's about 225 feet per second.
 
One more thing. In every article I have read, Riggs is ONLY referred to as former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver. Not a single article has him as former Crimson Tide receiver. Even though he has only been in the league for a very short time. And had he attended UM, or FSU, UF, or USC or pretty much any school other than Bama, he would be identified by his college. He is only 22.
 
Far too many people treat driving like a game. I’m furious driving with loved ones on 95 watching these pieces of **** risk everyone else’s life, weaving through traffic at high speeds for the fun of it. If you want to go 100 mph plus, find somewhere no one else has to deal with the consequences but yourself.
 
1) Vegas runs 24/7. He could’ve definitely gotten a ride and anybody that’s been to Vegas would know that

2) similar cases in Florida have led to sentences in the double digits but obviously the people involved weren’t of Henry’s financial stature.

3) I expect him to do a bit of time. I doubt they’ll be able to plead this down due to how violent the crash was.

SI would have called for NCAA penalties on UM.

Instead, they'll right a puff piece about how courageous Bama program is during this emotional time ans still getting Ws on the field.

His speed in the accident probably eliminates any substantial plea down. I think I read he is looking at almost 30 years max with charges now.
 
They are going to make an example out of Ruggs and I don't blame them. This was reckless, horrible, and completely avoidable. We generally need much stricter laws/enforcement of DUI related offenses imo. I'm sure his lawyers are working hard on this one because he may be facing more than 20 years if they decide to bring non-concurrent charges.
