Have you ever switched your sports allegiance? OT THREAD

I'm having a midlife fan crisis and debating switching allegiances for the first time in decades on two sports at the same time. Is this even legal?

NFL- Dolphin since birth, i've been pretty checked out since the Jags buried Marino in the playoffs. I really want to see how the QB position works out in next years draft, but **** i really like what the Browns are building with Highsmith and the rest of them Canes.

NBA- Started a Magic fan - Switched to Lakers the day they drafted/traded for kobe. Hate lebron, lonzo, ty lue. Really think i'm just going to roll with whoever drafts Zion.

CFB-Cane since birth. Death before Dishonor.

Personally, think switching teams is the worst thing any sports fan can do. If you're older than 12 years old I can't respect it. Only exception would be if you're a kid going into college, but even that is borderline.

Never switched on any sport, but I agree that if your team moves to a new city or otherwise ceases to exist in its original incarnation, then a switch is acceptable.

Good point. It would take something that drastic though

Never been a big MLB fan but the Orioles used to have a AA team in Miami that played in the old downtown Miami Baseball Stadium back in the day way before the Marlins came to town. So I became an Orioles fan just because of their location. When I moved away in '83, the area I moved to was big on the Braves so I switched from the Orioles.

BTW, I've never been a "switch-hitter".

Maybe if our 5 and 7 year old boys took a legitimate interest in a NFL franchise in Florida (Jags or Dolphins). But that’s about it. Maybe. I think I have them locked in w Braves baseball. And Canes of course.

Canes fan forever even though a relative played with Tebow and the rest of my family are gator...now live in Orlando but still root for the Heat just can't seem to be able to root for the Magic. Only switch ever was I was a Lombardi Packers fan and went to the second Super Bowl in the OB. When the Dolphins came along later I did switch to them and attended lots of their games. Once loyal to a team I find it difficult to switch. I am glad the Packers are NFC because I still pull for them. If the Fins and Pack were matched I think I would favor the Fins.

Started out a Dolphins fan when they were the only pro team in FL. Then switched to the Bucs, then to the Jags (my home town is Jax.). Now, I rarely watch any pro game, but watch a lot of college games but my only true allegiance is to the Canes. I watch FSU, UF, *OSU, GA, Clemson & Notre Dame all in hopes that they lose.

I adopt the team I live near. So

Boston College, then Tennessee, then Miami.

Two very happy moments for me, that I now look back on with disgust, were the Flutie pass, and the '86 Sugar Bowl.

I live Dolphins and Canes. Ask my wife. I grew up in Miami. I am a fan. A real fan. I would never even consider changing teams. It would be unnatural.

I went and watched my Canes and my Dolphins win it all. More than once! If you can change your feelings about your home team, you have serious issues that need to be resolved!....lol

Traitor! We would run you out of our house.

True, but life moves people in different directions. Grew up a Giant fan, loved the Namath Jets. Worshiped the Yankees, loved the 69 Amazing Mets.Family migrated to Fla. in the 60’s Dolphs. Canes alum 70’s, moved to ATLANTA, Falcons, Hawks 80,90’s Canes 80/90’s, Grad school UGA, Herschel Walker, nuff said, Canes 2000-present. So sports like life has its ups and downs. But, there is one constant that keeps the faith, CANESNATION.🙌🏿

Canes and Philly EVERYTHING. Eagles, Sixers, Phillies.... don't watch hockey but I rep the Broad Street Bullies, too.

Villanova for college BB. I'm from Philly, no traitor here. Stuck with my hometown sports teams even after moving to KCMO. I will admit, even when they sucked, I started to le the Royals, meet a few players, even George Brett, so they became an AL team I would watch.

But I would NEVER turn my back on my hometown teams and the U. Switching teams is for pussies, you ride or die.

For the hundredth time I'm a Cane for life.
And the pros ehhh... any team that picks up Canes or has nice cheerleaders... Fins lost me decades ago.

I’ve been a cane fan since the 80s. I have cheered for players on other CFB teams but if they ever played against the canes, there was no doubt about who I would cheer for. Canes all the way.

I’ve also been a Bears, Cubs and bulls fan since the 80s. To be honest, I haven’t followed the bulls since Jordan left though. I cheered for the ravens when reed and Lewis were there as well but would cheer for the Bears if they met up. I also cheer for anyone playing against the packers, Vikings, St. Louis Cardinals, Alabama and gators. That doesn’t make me a bandwagon, it just means I hate those teams with a passion.

I personally don’t think you should change teams unless they move or draft a Winston type player.

Ditto, a whole game, couldn’t tell you the last time. Not only do the Dolphins suck but I also blame the NFL for having such a watered down parity filled league. My parents had season tickets starting in ‘66 for decades, now pftttttth!
Exactly. The game is horrible now. Add the dolphins being horrible for over a decade, and just became a chore to watch game. The Tebow thing was the last straw.
