Have you ever switched your sports allegiance? OT THREAD

Yes.... I was a life long SAN DIEGO Chargers fan. They abandoned SD and moved to LA. So I jumped on the Dolphins (big mistake I know) because they are in Miami. I wanted both my football teams to be in the same city for convenience.

Never. I always say the worst thing my dad did was make me a dolphins fan. At the end of the day, I'm a fan though. I've suffered through 2 decades of mediocrity, but when we finally win it'll be that much sweeter.

Dolphins fan in NC since 1983. Been a rough last 20+ years. Panthers have had more success and they're local but I can't switch after 37 years. Will be that much sweeter when they finally win a Super Bowl lol (I hope). Got some mint vintage Mitchell & Ness gear that will remain shelved until a deep playoff run.

I was born in ‘92 and grew up in Boston. Been pretty lucky with sports teams and haven’t really experienced any terrible teams outside of once or twice with the Celtics and Red Sox. Been practicing handling losing as a Canes fan so I’m ready for whatever the new Patriots future without Brady is lol.
Don’t plan on switching up at any point!

I wont say I switched allegiances in baseball, but I stopped rooting for the Marlins a few years ago. I really don't feel like picking up and rooting for another team, so Im just watching baseball just to watch at this point.

Seriously, there are very, very limited instances whereby a team switch is OK.

1. Your team up and moves to a new town. If this happens, it's not like you're switching teams, but your team switched on you. I was a Houston Oilers fan back in the day and then they moved to Tennessee where I had no attachment. I simply was not going to root for a team based in Tennessee (I was born in Houston). Living in South FL, I became a Dolphins fan for the same rationale as why I originally became an Oilers fan. The Oilers switched on me, but I'll still rock a throwback Warren Moon jersey.

2. Your team drafts a dude like Jameis Winston #1 overall. I get it. As a Miami Hurricanes fan, that may be too much to bear. I don't even want to think of what that'd be like for Canes fans who had to deal with that.

3. You're gambling on a game between two teams and for 3 hours you root for where your $ is.

Other than that, I just think it's a bandwagon, frontrunner move. No one ever just stops being a fan when **** was good and jumps to a crappy team. Nah, they run to the Patriots or whatever the hot team is like fan mercenaries.
I switched from being a 76ers fan to a Golden State fan when Manute Bol went there. Had to follow the legend.

Personally, think switching teams is the worst thing any sports fan can do. If you're older than 12 years old I can't respect it. Only exception would be if you're a kid going into college, but even that is borderline.

Agree, I have been a cane since the first title against Nebraska watching with my Dad at 6 yrs old. (he just passed away 6 days ago). At 41 I'm still diehard and will continue to be until the day I see him again. Even my time in Gainesville at UF couldn't change my allegiance to our canes. It wasn't easy being the only cane in a house full of gators. But I survived.
Rest in peace Pops

I realized the Dolphins weren’t **** at a young age. Started rooting for the Eagles when I was around 11. Strangely, when they won the title, I stopped caring. I’m not gonna follow a team anymore. I’m just gonna enjoy the league.

I attended UF. I went to a few games as a student, but I just couldn’t get myself to care about them.

I just follow the Heat and the Canes now.

Main squeezes: Canes, Yankees, Dolphins, Portland Trailblazers

Side pieces: Oregon Ducks (both my sisters went to U of O), Marlins, Seahawks (wife from Seattle), Heat

I grew up in Tampa as a Bucs and Canes fan and remain so, although I’ve lived in Los Angeles since December 1984.

The Bucs I’ve nearly dropped twice. The firs time Dungy/Gruden give them new life and their only champion, after over a dozen bad seasons. I have been close to dropping them recently after another long run of futility (and the death of my mother removing any remaining connection to Tampa). Winston gave a little bit of hope as a superstar QB to build around but didn’t work out. Tom Brady brings a glimmer of hope but my prediction is the franchise tanks after Brady wins in Tampa and both he and Bruce Airans retires. The Bucs will not win a Super Bowl but will be a much better team unless Brady is injured.

NFL teams I’ll root for unless playing TB: Steelers and Chargers

The Canes I have supported since the Jim Kelly days. I’ve only attended the 1990 brawl at San Diego State and the 2001 NC Rose Bowl game against Nebraska. Hopefully the program will eventually rise back to prominence to justify a road trip to Hard Rock or a NC/playoff/bowl game.

College teams I’ll root for unless playing The U: None, with rare exceptions playing against FSU, VT, OSU, ND, USC, and UF.

I feel u..... I was a dolphin fan cause of my pops when I was real young.... Then I finally saw Bo play and I been a raider fan ever since. But the fins kinda made it easier by not giving marino any help. Marino is still my favorite qb to this day. Those Sammie Smith fumble on the goaline games sealed it for me tho.

Huge Mets fan as a kid living in NY then moved to Miami during HS and the Marlins had their inaugural season a couple of years later. Marlins fan ever since.

Also a Steeler fan as a kid , after moving to Miami I am now a lukewarm Dolphin fan.

Canes fan since 1979

I'm having a midlife fan crisis and debating switching allegiances for the first time in decades on two sports at the same time. Is this even legal?

NFL- Dolphin since birth, i've been pretty checked out since the Jags buried Marino in the playoffs. I really want to see how the QB position works out in next years draft, but **** i really like what the Browns are building with Highsmith and the rest of them Canes.

NBA- Started a Magic fan - Switched to Lakers the day they drafted/traded for kobe. Hate lebron, lonzo, ty lue. Really think i'm just going to roll with whoever drafts Zion.

CFB-Cane since birth. Death before Dishonor.
I say if you're older than 10, no. Other than some extenuating circumstance like Irsay sneaking the Colts out of Baltimore in the middle of the night.
