Has Mario lost the support of the big money donors

Those schools have better coaching.
OPs post was about recruiting.

I actually mentioned that we would have been in the playoff if not for a d coordinator (that is a coaching position, by the way), in an effort to emphasize that our recruiting is fine. Every year, around this time, there is all this panic - and every year since Mario has been here, its proved to have been unwarranted.

Every year it’s the same **** on this board. There are 136 fbs schools and 10+ blue bloods (of which Miami is not). Suddenly if we can’t land a top 5 class it means we are Louisville or duke and should give up on football.

In July by the way.

This is insanity.

Anything in the top 10 recruiting is a major win. You guys act like spoiled children.

Michigan recently won a natty with the following classes (no top 5)

2022: 9th
2021: 13th
2020: 10th
2019: 8th

Notre dame was in the national title game with their 2020-2024 ranked classes as 14, 9, 6, 10, 10. (No top 5)

Miami last 4 classes were 11, 14, 7, 4. If not for a d coordinator that forgot how to coach we would have been in the playoff.

The sky is not falling, log off the board and come back 8/31
Compare how many top 2 round guys Michigan and ND got in those classes compared to how many Miami had/will have.

At some point you have to develop guys.

To me, it certainly feels like this is what happened and UM no longer has the ability to outbid others. And If I am correct, then it certainly would mean that UM has peaked, or will peak this season, but does not have a sustainable model.

I would love for our insiders to be honest with the rest of us as to why UM seemingly does not have the financial ability to compete at the very highest level (top 5).

I love UM football, but if we are a second tier football program then let’s be honest about it. Let’s be Louisville, or Maryland, and embrace who we are. Or better yet, let’s be Duke and stop squandering our limited resources on football and focus on basketball and baseball wehre those funds could be moire effective. What I am tired of being is a program that acts like it should be in the top 5, but can’t spend as needed to be in the top 5. We will become, if we are not already, the last ones to know that the joke is on us.
Probably not that hard to figure. Miami isn’t pocketing what SEC and Big 10 programs are annually. Relatively small, private schools and - despite a few wealthy cats - likely don’t have access to the wealth/resources available at Texas, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, etc.

Money fixes everything... right? No!
Many other schools have the same money we do.

IMHO, money isn't the reason and it's ridiculous to think so. Most of the schools we're losing to have money like we do. They also have proof of concept (successful programs), draft picks and NFL production. Things we've been lacking for a long time.

Just seems too many of think that because we're Miami, everyone would want to come to Miami.

The reasoning for me will always be recruiting. Are we better? Yes

But recruiting is slipping with improved seasons, so how is it we still have the “win and they will come” crowd here? Can we dead that bs line already?

Talent is always the reason for winning. Michigan was basically stealing signs and knew every sign from when they played UGA and still lost lol. They had superior coaching over them with knowing all their signs and still lost. Make that make sense

Like dude said that was stealing signs for UM “it’s football not rocket science” something I always say on here

I really don’t believe this is just a money issue. We don’t put guys in the league consistently. We don’t play meaningful games consistently. Mario has mind numbing gaffs regularly on Saturdays.

Remove Cam Ward, has any coach he’s hired been a good hire? I like Dawson, and don’t think he’s a bad coach. But was last year him or Ward? Past that, it’s year 5. Three D Coordinators deep, Two OCs, three RB coaches, three DB coaches, three LB coaches. Maybe Beard? JT leaves some to be desired, Woodiel or however you spell has been surprising but not spectacular.

Mix in year 1. Which was rough. Year 2 not much noticeable improvement. Year 3, was great until Miami and Mario became Miami and Mario.

Mario can recruit, we can’t just throw out history. But look where he was when he recruited at the levels he did, here at the tail end of the title teams, Bama at its peak and Oregon when they were playing in Rose Bowls. What reason has been given that Mario will be successful here?

Maybe I’m being doom and gloom with the recent trend here. But it seems like until Mario starts winning consistently and keeping coaches around to put guys into the league consistently we will be in the 12-15 range.

This is dumb. Miami is top 20 in Ultra High Net Worth alumni (which includes all the Ivies, Stanford, MIT, etc) so we are easily top 10 for football schools .... we have several billionaires investing in the school and athletic programs.
Good point. But UM has fell out of the top 20, don’t know where they r exactly but they aren’t top 20, probably not too far off though. UT is 13 and they r a public university. I wonder where the other top football schools rank, bc if it’s close enough to UM, I think my point still stands. But again I don’t know the ins and out of funding for private and public universities.

Yeah I gotta say this is one of the most off posts I’ve seen from a Maude. The reality is that we’re competing with some major programs for these top recruits. Making the Jump into the Top Ten is tough, which we have done, but making the Top Five is a whole other animal.

Mario has major support among donors and the people that matter in school admin. Joe E. is 100% behind him, and the major school donors are too. His seat is as Ice Cold as any in the country. And as much as I’ve had issues with him (I blasted him after the Iowa State bowl loss on here) The reality is, in this landscape, nobody has the resources to play for every elite recruit or angle. Cantwell also definitely changed the calculus for us on available $$$. However, a lot of recruits are also just doubtful of our trajectory. We gotta have a minimum 10-2 regular season + ACC Championship to keep up the momentum. Need Beck to be a Top Five pick. Narrative needs to continue to change.

Would love to mix transfer portal recruiting along with high school recruiting and then tell me how we've done the last two years. Are we still outside the top 10?
I hate the way the recruiting sites rank portal players though. They tend to overrate guys who were highly rated in high school but have done nothing in college. I don’t care about portal class rankings at all

You usually have such good posts, but there’s literally no problem with money. If only it was that simple.

We’ve been mediocre on the field for 20 years now. It’s who we are..until we’re not. This season has to be 10+ wins else it’s more of the same.
It’s hard to buy yourself out of the tragedy Shalala helped turned this program into…..we will need at some point to show the rest of the college football world we can do something with it…on both sides of the ball…at the same time….in the same year…and then prove it in back to back years.

None of these mongoliths we seek to play every year in the playoffs have spent these last 2 plus decades, much less 5 years, in the turmoil we have experienced.

If he lost the support after 10 wins and improvement every year then idk what to tell ya. Makes you wonder how Billy boy in hogtown has any support
They'll turn quickly on him this year.

But in any case, it's because he finished strong while we went out with a whimper. Our expectations were also (rightfully) higher than theirs.

Not the case. The money is there.

We had higher offers for most of the kids we lost including both safeties.

Miami has to win SOMETHING this year. Year 4, put up or shut up. Because the last two years kids have been watching this programnself destruct at the end. Time to go from "improving" to "winning"
Almost like dropping games early and finishing strong would help us more than us self destructing later on??

The perception of our program seems to be just wait and they will eventually flop

I also feel like something shifted in these recruiting battles over the last few weeks, but it would be weird timing to pull the plug after going all in on Cantwell a couple months ago
Yeah like some prob asking for crazy numbers . We got the number 1 ot you have prioritize on positions like rb …dime a dozen
