Robert Bailey did exactly what he said he was gonna do before the game started!

I'll always remember Bailey for an incident that happened in the FSU game. The FSU kickoff was gathered by a high school teammate of his. He should have taken a knee but after hesitating decided to run and was tackled on the two yard line. Bailey made the tackle and put his arm around him and walked halfway to the FSU sideline with him. After the game Musberger interviewed Bailey and commented how nice is was for Bailey to comfort his old teammate and asked him what he was saying to him on the long walk to the sideline. Bailey answered "I told him that he was the stupidest player on the field and he probably cost his team the game". That's all you need to know about those old Canes

Sean Taylor is the first name that came to mind. ST wasn't just a heavy hitter; he was simply a explosive player. To the point anytime he got near the ball you expected something special to happen.

Second name was Jonathan Vilma. Reminded me of legendary safety Jack Tatum in the way he could run through guys.

Speaking of safeties, when Ed Reed wasn't getting picks, he could lay the wood.

Ray Lewis was sort of a Butkis-type hitter. In the NFL he became known for crippling guys, but when he was here, I thought of him more as a Dan Morgan - a physical, athletic, sure tackler.

Incidentally, Ted Hendricks could hit hard, but the Stork was more of a sure tackler than a power hitter. Once that 6'7 Mad Stork got his hands on the ball carrier; it was over.

Micheal Barrow was a power hitter, and the Vanover hit will live in Canes history forever.

Sean Taylor was a beast. Vilma also had a lot of good hits during those years (look at the NC game vs Nebraska).

Going forward, I hope Amari Carter gets a lot of good playing time. Kid is a headhunter and has promise to be UM's next big hitter.

Probably the greatest battle between two players occurred in National Championship Canes vs Cornhuskers , very little known battle physical hand to hand of this unheralded EPIC battle.

Canes Nose tackle Tony Fitzpatrick 5’10 220 pounds vs Dave Remington 6’3 330 Outland trophy winner.

Anybody here at least acknowledge this battle occurred ?

ST-go watch highlights again- never gets old. I think Vilma was also nasty. From the old days I think Webster but Blades was also feared.

Bennie Blades was beast. He would get arrested today’s game. ST was super attelete but for pure pain delivered I think Blades might have carried more lumber to the impact. But like so many “greatest” questions about Canes, there are just so many. I’m going with the kickoff of the famous Cotton Bowl game —- did that poor Lonrhorn ever get up?

I think we sometimes add DBs unfairly to lists like these just based on how their position can allow them to make big hits but can I get in early and bet on Gurvan Hall to be mentioned in this category one day?

Mr NFL fine himself b/c of him head hunting. Lol. Brandon would’ve been great in the 80’s; most likely a semi HOF career, but he and R Harrison were black balled due to their head hunting/old school style of play when it became frowned upon. I agree w u.
