Gus Edwards teaser

10000% correct. He lacks explosoveness. Those clips prove that. How many times has this 230+ lb back been stuffed on the goal line? More times than I can remember. He's not even in the same league as Yearby. Not even close. Yearby is going to make fools of r the people slow playing him on this board.

Put me in the category that says if he is our feature back this fall, its going to be a loooooooong season.

Ive never seen anything from Gus Edwards that would lead me to believe he can be a productive every down back; No explosiveness, no real ability to break tackles.

Gus getting stuffed at the goal line isn't completely on Gus. Our OL **** the bed several times.

Man y'all crazy thinking he is better than a true freshman that was 8 months removed from a serious leg injury with NO college strength and conditioning, just rehabilitation who had 500+ yards rushing behind duke. Yearbu played hurt all season n missed 2 games. Also didn't get many carries at the beginning and end of the year. Could've easily had 800+ yards. Now that he's been here a year watch out! He's gonna be bigger stronger faster. And if gus got better in between fresh n sophomore years under ice what you think yearby gon do?!! Just sayin....

I'm high on all of our running backs. Will be a very good group this year

Gus is a bad dude. None of the experts expected McGahee to blow up like he did after he struggled to do anything as a RS FR. He looked lost and ineffective to the point they stuck him at FB. The next year he burst on the scene and put together the best single season every by a UM RB.

Gus will go for huge yards this year. Yearby's not built to carry the load.

Sometimes I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not these days. Lol.

Anyway, I am willing to give Gus the benefit of the doubt. He will have his chance against NEB because we will need a strong running game to beat them. We will lean on him heavily because I am sure that Yearby will get the doghouse treatment for a minute or two because he missed the offseason stuff.

People say he reminds them of Damian Berry...But I see James Stewart all the way in Gus. In 1994, James WAS THE MAN for us. If he hadn't gotten hurt and gained all that weight, he would have had a career in the league. He was a legit 6'2 225-230, ran upright, ran mean, and was fast in pads. (we all thought he ran a 4.4..but ended up running a 4.7 at the combine)....Gus can be the man for us like James was that year. I am willing to give him a shot.

The only thing I seen hurting our running game (not just Gus) is our OL.

I want to say that Gus will have a breakout year, but I still have reservations. Nothing I've seen of him so far suggests that he'll be a gamebreaking type of back. If he does go over 1,000 yards it will probably be due to a high amount of carries where his ypc avg will be like 3.9.

Why would he go from 5.7ypc to 3.9ypc?

Yearby acceleration is elite, at times it looked like he got through the hole faster than Duke.

Yearby gets to his top speed so quickly because his top speed is 4 mph.

agreed

but he cant hit that second gear man....Duke couldnt hit the 3rd gear but Yearby cant hit the second...and that aint gonna cut it at 175 pounds

Increased number of carries if he is going to be the feature back for one. Also, in the 2 games he got more than 10 carries (Cincinnati and Va Tech)their rushing defenses were ranked 79th and 38th respectively. All the other times he never carried more than 6 times for greater than 40 yards.

So average 4 yards a carry against top defenses and 6.5 against average teams...sounds like most runningbacks

I'm sold on giving Gus the chance. Worst thing that can happen is that Yearby or Walton will prove to be better. That sounds good to me

Exactly. Dudes are so caught up in tearing down Gus that they're looking to take away all his carries against average teams. Every **** back pads stats against average/bad teams. Not too many dudes running for 8 ypc against FSU. Sounds like the same guys that used to say, "Yeah, take away Barry Sanders 3 big runs (80, 50, 30), and he'd be averaging 2 yards per carry."

Although I acknowledge that he never had true elite speed, we will see this year, remember last year he broke his ankle in December so he probably still was not all the way 100% or comfortable playing on it last year. Supposedly he has gotten faster

Yearby went from a 4.62 last summer to a 4.57 this summer. He will most likely be a 4.5 guy by the time the season rolls around. Not bad considering he put on at least 10 lbs as well. Duke clocked a 4.42 last summer or .2 seconds faster than Yearby. Duke ran a 4.39 as 185 lbs freshmen.

4.57 (4.62): 2 Joseph Yearby RB 5-9 195 So.
4.53 (4.49): 7 Gus Edwards RB 6-2 230 Jr
4.54 (DNR): 32 Trayone Gray RB 6-2 215 So.

Gus will be a load at 230 and running a legit 4.5.

In the nfl combine, Yearby prob runs around a 4.58 & Gus runs around a 4.63.

But I am so not on the Gus Bus. He really plays like he is 5'9" 190. He dances too much, and he really shouldn't be. But we all know he's going to start for us this year. I swear every time he came in when we got in the redbone, we never scored.
