Gus Edwards teaser

Put me in the category that says if he is our feature back this fall, its going to be a loooooooong season.

Ive never seen anything from Gus Edwards that would lead me to believe he can be a productive every down back; No explosiveness, no real ability to break tackles.

Maybe Im trippin but didnt that clip just show him break 5-6 tackles in 3 different runs?

Do you get credit for beast mode against Cincinnati?

Yes.. Didnt cincinatti go 9-4 last year and win thier conference? Im pretty sure they did. They beat a few decent teams last year

Miami dropped 55 on them last year. Joe Yearby & Duke, both ran for over 100 yds

all of this. the guy is a FB. he has NO business playing RB at Miami

What was his YPC average last year?

5.7

but his stats were a mess with 2 carries against ARKy at for 38 yards

His 2 best games were VT and Cincy...he carried the rock very well and had 31 carries in this two games..

If Gus could run like this against every team UM plays this year than Miami will have a great 2015 season.

Hi Danny

Gus is a great guy to have as a backup - grind the opposing defense with a physical style. But as a starter? Not yet imo

he doesnt have a physical style tho. he runs like hes 180 lbs

Not last year he didn't.

He ran tough last year.

And the kid is only a true Jr.

Give this kid a chance to perform before you bury him.

You girls pining for Walton are going to be sorely disappointed.

Why else would Golden/staff be after that big TX kid that wasn't admitted to Wisconsin?

because Alfraud has failed miserably at recruiting RB. IF we got the kids that should be here, Gus would be at FB where he belongs

For a few reasons...

- This backfield is sloooooooooow and Stevenson is fast. We have no one like him on the team currently, which is yet another indictment of Golden's ineptitude.

- Jordan Scarlett, Dexter Williams, and Jordan Cronkrite told Al to go **** himself. So did Sony Michel, Dalvin Cook, Alex Collins, and Brandon Powell to name a few these past couple years.

- Stevenson is a legit stud. This staff is clueless beyond belief, but they'd be even dumber if they weren't trying to land that kid after the way RB recruiting has played out these past few years.

Gus is still learning what to do when people have a clean shot on him. He needs to use his 230 lbs. to his advantage, drop his pads, and deliver the hit instead of taking it. He still is too upright and tends to dance too much in the hole.

This run shows what Gus does bring to the table. If the defender doesn't have a clean angle, he has the strength to break arm tackles, deliver stiff arms, and then the speed to take it to the house.

Yearby is quicker, is great at making the first defender miss, and probably has better vision. But the Size/Strength/Speed advantage Gus has is why I think he wins the starting job and will be our best RB.

I totally disagree. Gus has shown steady improvement since he got here. He's pulled off some holy s.hit runs where he looks like a straight up stud.

Gray might surprise this year too.. just needs to hold on to the ball

Highest ceiling of any back on the roster, one of the highest ceilings of any player. I just naturally assume that with this staff, anyone who requires some development won't ever get there for us.

I expect quality production, but he hasn't shown me he is a feature back. Problem may not be the backs skills, but OL depth and production.

Every time I think Golden is the worst their is someone posts something to remind me he is worser (sp) than the worst coach. He's lost more talented backs than all the schools in the SEC signed.

They already completely threw away one year of Gray's eligibility, along with Brady, Moten, Gayot.

Man y'all crazy thinking he is better than a true freshman that was 8 months removed from a serious leg injury with NO college strength and conditioning, just rehabilitation who had 500+ yards rushing behind duke. Yearbu played hurt all season n missed 2 games. Also didn't get many carries at the beginning and end of the year. Could've easily had 800+ yards. Now that he's been here a year watch out! He's gonna be bigger stronger faster. And if gus got better in between fresh n sophomore years under ice what you think yearby gon do?!! Just sayin....

Gus is a bad dude. None of the experts expected McGahee to blow up like he did after he struggled to do anything as a RS FR. He looked lost and ineffective to the point they stuck him at FB. The next year he burst on the scene and put together the best single season every by a UM RB.

Gus will go for huge yards this year. Yearby's not built to carry the load.
