To each it’s own; but it’s a way to carry on a legacy tradition. A guy just wanting the jersey v. earning the jersey brings a different meaning/feeling once you get to a certain level of comp. That’s why I gave the Cowboys as a prime example of that.

I hear what u’re saying, but some #’s in our rich history don’t need to be desecrated by some scrubs. That’s why I said, “earned.” CeeDee Lamb ain’t never going to be Mike Irvin(g), but he’ll embody the next great WR drafted by Dallas carving his own path, which is why he was awarded #88.

I understand wher your coming from. Lots of fans get caught up in that. When I was a kid I did too. But at the end of the day winning is the only legacy that matters. And idc what number our ballers wear here. Our for example bubba bolden might very well win the thrope award this year..that doesn’t mean the number 21 in orange and green..at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what u wear...and don’t get me started on Jerry amd them sorry *** cowboys with that 88 bull****..like the goat Shannon sharpe says “let it go bruh”

As for retired numbers an NFL roster is only 53 players so you can retire numbers. College teams often have 100 players including walk-ons. They’re hard pressed as it is.
Most schools do number choice based on seniority. It’s why Frank Gore wore #32 until Jason Geathers graduated and he could take #3. If Hall got #26 as a freshman it was because nobody else wanted it.

So let me get this straight..your giving the staff no credit for how bubba is playing? How about Quan? How about how they got the most out of Rayshawn and Carter their only years with them. And let’s not forget Red who ppl on this very board labeled a Jag after his soph year..and we are keeping this discussion exclusive to the safety room..how can u say we haven’t developed the blue chips in that group when history says otherwise?? And btw Bluechip players transfer all the time very rarely do they ball at their next stop.

most teams have 42 retired In MLB. If a team org wants to keep a number off limits or retired to keep the memory of great player wore that number as the only memory associated with said number...fine. Personally I find that idea silly tho..and this is coming from a Yankees fan lol..ST would’ve made plays in the jersey number 49..it doesn’t matter

He was the 23rd and 24th ranked safety by 247 when he came out. I’m not sure what this fanbase was expecting. IMO he is a good safety. Setting All American expectations for him wasn’t realistic.

Redwine, absolutely. Banda is our best recruiter, but you are absolutely smoking if u think our development of blue chip guys is on par on the defensive side of the ball. 4th - 6th round projections is not development.

Redwine wasnt blue chip at all. Blue chip to me is a top 100 guy. None of the guys he coached under him were top 100 in the nation. I think Bolden might have been the only one. Carter and JJohnson were great talents and highly rated kids no doubt. But I dont think either were top 100 either. I could be wrong.

That said, 4 are in the NFL right now and Bolden is on his way so thats 5...I am not sure what more you want from this guy. GHall definitely is having some issues and I think its all mental. I wouldnt be shocked if after the season some story came out that he was dealing with some off the field stuff all year and it really prevented him from focusing on football. Something just isnt right with him. Even his body language is off.

If you want to judge him based off of a "blue chip to first round pick" model..Judge him off of what he does with JamWill and AvaWill. Both were the #1 safeties in the country back to back years.

Golden clearly left a treasure trove for the staff; and I’ve already stated this ad nauseam. But we’ve been waiting for this elite play, and it was stated here, that once Diaz gets his players, we would see a difference, and I’m saying since 2016, since Diaz’s players have moved in & Golden’s players have moved out, our play has been good, but not great. At times it’s been porous.

Our S have been more vulnerable then ever before. And once again, thank goodness for Bolden (someone who was a blue chip & I was extremely high on at Bishop Gorman) transferred in. If our S duo was going to be Amari Carter & Gurvan Hall, we would be even more f’d.

Hall absolutely was highly sought after, but for the past two seasons, now that the last of Golden’s players have left, our S play has been sporadic, with the exception of a transfer who’s clearly out of here this yr.

The NYY need to stop cuddling their pitching staff..stop pretending we have to 2009 BP in the back end..have a ******* discipline plate approach in the playoffs..be more aggressive on the bath paths..stop living on the long ball..add more professional hitters (like DJ LeMahieu who might dip in FA)..tbh until I see a philosophy change to how we hit starting in the Reg we are gunna see the same results. Even my man Gardner who was one of the most scrappy hard to get outs in the game has tried to depend too much on that short right field

No amount of development would’ve turned Quan, who i loved and played his *** off into anything but a 5’9 guy running a 4.6 lol..I’m strictly focused on how they played in the orange n green. Bubba fits the mold of what the league looks for at the top end of the draft at safety tho...but as far a nfl projections go i don’t think we’ve had those dudes quite yet

If you dont consider JJohnson and Redwines safety play in 2017 and 2018 elite...than maybe we need to end the discussion because we are looking at two different things. (Unless you are considering those two "Goldens guys")

And if you are considering them Golden recruits, then my rebutal would be that there were respected posters on here who bought every share of Amari Carter and GHall stock when they came out of HS. And even after their freshmen year at UM. Last year was the first year without Redwine and JJohnson. Hall and Carter had no starters experience. They played like it. But Hall was also one of the leading tackers on the team last year and Bolden this year is playing at an All American level...So my question still stands bro..What more do you want from Banda? Hall took a step back and Bolden stepped right in his place..We have alot of things to complain about on this team..Safety aint one of them when you have a guy who is playing like an All American.

I am not placing all the blame on Banda for Halls performance thus far. That kid is clearly stuck in his own head right now. That said, its only been 4 games...lets revisit this later in the season. Way too early to speak in definitives.

That's all i was trying to say. Jaquan and Redwine yes. Some of the others guys since...no, and it's why we were lucky to get Bolden here, otherwise we would be hurting right now on the back end.

People get so animated and defensive around here about an opinion that doesn't match theirs. I guess it's not much different that the rest of the world these days.

Nah. It’s one thing posters do. We also write off players as busts halfway into their freshman season because we see another team’s freshman make a few splash plays.

Unless he turns into Bubba Bolden from now until the end of next year then he still won’t be better than Redwine or Jenkins. Jenkins made plays his entire career and Redwine balled his Junior and Senior seasons.

I saw the tape and U’re misremembering Jenkins here. Every season he got progressively better. He was having a great sophomore year before the horrible back injury. He came back his Redshirt Jr and had a great all around yr. His Redshirt Sr year, he had the most tackles he’s ever had, but he was trending that way every season. He had the most ints his Sophomore & RS Jr yrs.

Again, Jenkins was getting better every season here before the new staff. Go check the tape & stats.
