Gurvan Hall - hasn’t lived up to the hype

Typical CIS only black and white discussion. And as usual, there's gray area.

Gurvan Hall is about 60% into what should be his career. Now, he'll probably leave this year early and be an UDFA who winds up driving a bread truck for a living, because that's what the numbskulls here do. BUT, he SHOULD be about 60% through his career. He's got plenty of time to improve and be an impact player.

However, that being said (and this is the gray area....it's not just he sucks or he doesn't), he has not been an impact talent yet. He has time, but let's call a spade a spade. He hasn't gotten exposed much in the back end. But Jaquan Johnson is what a Safety should look like in this scheme, when that player is at their peak. The scheme is designed around elite safety play. Jaquan Johnson was EVERYWERE for 2 seasons. An absolute eraser in the run game, making game saving tackles in the back end, pressuring the QB, defending passes, scoring TDs. Kid was a BALLER. Hall hasn't had anywhere close to that kind of impact. But his career isn't over. Let's revisit this discussion at the end of the year.

Dude just hasn’t lived up to his “blue chip” expectations at all...

im still waiting for the dude to make an “impact” play

thoughts ?

btw changing his jersey # would be a start
Before you posted, did you consider this particular Miami's safety may have been OVER RATED. Along with a host of other Miami " 4-Star " HS players. But then again, it could be the coaching and what not.

It's the defense IMO! This defense puts kids in bad positions and doesn't teach them to use their natural instincts. I watched plenty tape on how sabag coaches his LB'ers, safeties and Corners to defend sweeps, jet sweeps and WR screens. Absolute great coaching. These privilege boys we got coaching keep doing the same wrong things and we keep expecting different results.

One of my favorite kids but seems like Bolden has that closing speed and Gurvan doesnt which is so weird to me.

I think they should make #26 be earned. Some teams have special numbers that players have to earn. Sean Taylor was a legend and I think they should only let a player who has earned it be able to wear it as an honor. Bubba Bolden should be rocking #26 with how he’s been playing this year and the passion and leadership he is showing. Just my 2 cents...
I’ve said this for a couple yrs now. It’s like The Cowboys making WRs earn the #88. I think #26, #52, #20 should be 3 jerseys that need to be earned.

1000% agree. I actually thought of those same numbers when I was posting. Great minds think alike!!

A Jersey number is just a number man..y’all tripping lol..hall led the team in tackles year ago and has missed time because of targeting (BS rule)..but here’s a whole thread about how he’s not been Ed Reed, ST etc

A jersey number is just a number?? Why do players wear the #23 in basketball? Why are certain players (very, very, very few) allowed to wear the #42 in baseball? Why do the Cowboys award the #88 to their franchise WR? Why is the #34 not allowed to be worn in Chicago? Jerseys #’s are everything, champ. Lol.

He hasn’t lived up to the hype b/c this coaching staff haven’t lived up to their hype.

There; I said it.
So how has that same coaching staff had Bubba safety of the week multiple times ..and playing as the best safety in the nation RN..can’t just pick n choose.

Yet had we not landed him we would have heard

"Theres another whiff"

"Staff cant recruit"

"SFLA turncoat"

I mean we get all ****y when sfla kids dont choose us but when they do god forbid if they don't live up to what we've hyped them up to be then we vilify and motherfu*k them.

Thank you, great point. I also dont see the point of calling out players.

Bubba Bolden was an absolute monster prior to collegiate football. The only reason why he transferred to us wasn’t due to any playing issues, it’s b/c of some bull chit that happened with he & the USC admin.

Bolden is more of an exception & not the rule. We’ve had more underdeveloped blue chips than any school in the nation, and that’s not even up for debate or argument. ****, Perryman looked good in D’No’s defense; did that mean No D was a great player developer & scheme caller?

The same rzn I wore number 2 playing baseball..my favorite player and idol Jeter wore it..but at the end of the days it’s just a number man. How many scrubs in the NBA wore 23 before it got retired by teams?. Yea great players are synonymous with the number they wore but a number does not make u play better or prepare better. Nobody who wears 20, 26 etc in orange and green will live up to the players. That’s why those guys are legends..so it’s really just silly fan talk. And if a coach and staff feeds into that Hollywood type storyline they are clowns imo. I have no problem with a kid coming to UM and wanting to wear their idols number in the orange n green. Does not mean I expect them to play like the legends who made those numbers famous either

So let me get this straight..your giving the staff no credit for how bubba is playing? How about Quan? How about how they got the most out of Rayshawn and Carter their only years with them. And let’s not forget Red who ppl on this very board labeled a Jag after his soph year..and we are keeping this discussion exclusive to the safety room..how can u say we haven’t developed the blue chips in that group when history says otherwise?? And btw Bluechip players transfer all the time very rarely do they ball at their next stop.

42 is retired from every team in MLB because of Jackie Robinson. Mariano Rivera was the last player to wear it because he had the number before MLB retired it.

To each it’s own; but it’s a way to carry on a legacy tradition. A guy just wanting the jersey v. earning the jersey brings a different meaning/feeling once you get to a certain level of comp. That’s why I gave the Cowboys as a prime example of that.

I hear what u’re saying, but some #’s in our rich history don’t need to be desecrated by some scrubs. That’s why I said, “earned.” CeeDee Lamb ain’t never going to be Mike Irvin(g), but he’ll embody the next great WR drafted by Dallas carving his own path, which is why he was awarded #88.

most teams have 42 retired In MLB. If a team org wants to keep a number off limits or retired to keep the memory of great player wore that number as the only memory associated with said number...fine. Personally I find that idea silly tho..and this is coming from a Yankees fan lol..ST would’ve made plays in the jersey number 49..it doesn’t matter
