Gurvan Hall - hasn’t lived up to the hype

Dude just hasn’t lived up to his “blue chip” expectations at all...

im still waiting for the dude to make an “impact” play

thoughts ?

btw changing his jersey # would be a start
I think they should make #26 be earned. Some teams have special numbers that players have to earn. Sean Taylor was a legend and I think they should only let a player who has earned it be able to wear it as an honor. Bubba Bolden should be rocking #26 with how he’s been playing this year and the passion and leadership he is showing. Just my 2 cents...

Lmao @the idiots blaming Banda! Seriously? Yeah, the guy who has 4 safeties playing in the NFL and will have another very soon. He doesn’t get credit for Bolden? BB was at USC for one year folks! One! He **** well gets credit for Boldens development.

Oh and he’s got 3 more stud safeties coming down the pike..(JWill, AWill, KK) and Balom has played well to bea TF. LEAVE BANDA ALONE!

This post is the most CIS post ever. Almost half the list are freshmen and developmental credit given to a D'Nofrio coached player to come up with "question marks".

And of course Bolden and Colbert are completely omitted.

Haha funny - you sit here and throw out some of the worst garbage ever on this board but then attack people like me who simply state facts. You said all. I supplied a list.

The list was every kid signed during Banda's employment. I will not count a 1 year Colbert transfer or upperclassmen because you can't identify development when players spend 3 of 4 years with another coach, change systems, etc after physically and mentally maturing to their max as seniors. It's like saying Stubblefield developed Osborn or Stroud developed Roche. Same with Bolden. The moment he stepped on the field last year he looked like the best safety on the team. I'm guessing that was all Banda in the few months he was here? C'mon now. Removing that 1 player doesn't defeat the argument against "literally all". The fact Miami needed to go the route of transfer shows "not all" developed. I gave credit to Jaquan and Redwine. Both guys developed well. Redwine surprised me a ton his last year. On the flipside Bobby Knowles didn't belong on the field.

Banda has been here for 5 years now. He's had 2 recruiting classes reach senior years. Finley did not develop at safety. He was moved to striker. Wright and James i don't care about bc Wright was committed to Paul Williams and James was a throw-in who never should have been offered. Carter developed some but leveled off.....another guy better suited for box safety/striker. Derrick Smith? What happened to him? Keontra? Looks great at striker but why was he moved so soon? Gurvan? He's been super solid but has not taken that next step many expected.

The Freshman are very encouraging and Banda has been killing it on the trail the last 1-2 years.....but i'm not ready to crown him yet as a high level DB coach. Not just yet....(I can hear dsddcane whispering in my ear about safeties going to Rumph for coaching). I want to see how these younger, physically talented kids develop from the last year's class.

Since Banda arrived in 2016, the safety recruits have been:
Romeo Finley
Cedric Wright
Jeff James
Amari Carter
Derrick Smith
Gurvan Hall
Keontra Smith
Avantae Williams
Jalen Harrell
Brian Balom
Keshawn Washington

People will point to Jamal Carter, Rayshawn Jenkins, Jaquan Johnson and Sheldrick Redwine as their argument.

Let's remember, Carter and Jenkins played/developed 3 years with another coach. Did their tackles go in as seniors under Banda? Absolutely. Do safeties tend to make more tackles in Diaz's scheme? Absolutely. The PD, INT and Tackles for Loss didn't change much from their junior to senior years.....just tackles.

Jaquan and Redwine - I can agree both guys did develop well. Everyone since? Question marks.
Carter and Jenkins were well on their way to fine careers at UPS before the coaching change. Now they play professionally. Romeo Finley changed positions and was a solid starter. Derek Smith transferred because Finley took his job. Bubba Bolden is probably the best player on the team currently but you left him off the list. I guess that one semester of coaching at USC is what made him great. Four guys you did list are true freshmen and only one has actually played.

Hall led the team in tackles last year and has been generally a very good player in the 17 games he’s played so far in college. There’s legitimate position gripes to have with this team but safety isn’t one of them. We’ve had better production there than pretty much every other position on the roster the last 5 years.

Given the amount of complaining about Carter’s targeting calls, you’d think that would leave plenty of time for hall to get PT.
How about someone tell me about a play Hall made in the second half of Clemson?
(in my best katt williams voice) go ahead I’ll wait! Lol
But seriously he needs the light to come on. He’s been here plenty long enough to flash a bit here or there at least!

I dont get this fanbase. One loss, (which we all circled on the schedule as a guaranteed loss pretty much) and they are ready to throw everyone overboard. Smh.

Its routine to have 4/5 star players give 3/4 star production because of the coaching we've had the last decade.

he was a solid 4 star recruit, nothing more than that. any hype beyond that comes solely from this fanbase lathering itself up like always. he was actually good last year for a sophomore in his first season as a starter... he had 3.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 3 PBU, 1 INT if we're counting impact plays. this year he has basically played three games. i know it's going to sound crazy but perhaps let's see how the rest of the season goes, he's barely halfway through his college eligibility.
I didn't say he wasn't. I was taking issue with your statement "he was a solid 4 star recruit, nothing more than that." I don't put "4 star" and "nothing more than that" in the same breath. And, a 4 star recruit should get the fan base "lathered up."

He hasn’t lived up to the hype b/c this coaching staff having lived up to their hype.

There; I said it.
I agree. Recruiting at lb and CB doesn't help. We can't leave the corners on an island. Speed and athletic liberal don't start. The DC, lb coach, OL and Wrs need to do or be better going forward. Hall is solid and our safeties have to do a lot in this defense.

Safeties are asked to do so much in this defense and more often than not, it turns out to be a detriment. It takes a certain kinda player to be the man at safety for Manny. JJ had it. He was by far the best we’ve had since Diaz got here and it certainly looks like Bolden is built that same way.

Nice. All Banda needed was time to get recruits/develop here. Also, it seems safety recruiting (though I know not everyone recruits just their position group) keeps getting better during his tenure.

The obvious comparison is Rumph. CB depth/recruiting is still an issue and this is also year 5 for him here.

Wait we all know his main job is to kill people over the middle when he is on the field people are afraid to get hit by him period. I say he has lived up to his height n still got plenty of room to grow. In highschool he wasn't a known ball hawk he was known for his hitting ability in space. N he has shown every yr that he will knock your head off if u tryna come his way

They keep playing Amari Carter over him. The starting safeties should be Hall and Bolden. Carter should be coming off the bench.

It's time the coaches made that move

hall was suspended for the first half last game. hall is normally the starter though

I'm not blaming coaches yall love to blame coaches. ***** that! I blame Gurvan phucking Hall. It's your junior year dawg. Make some phucking plays and stop playing like an undisciplined punk.
