Great Single Season Performance Nominations

SEASON! Guys he’s looking for great seasons. Not a single game, or a great play, not just the number one season. Throw out any number of guys and their good seasons.
I’m not 100% on a great season but I’d think Barrow, Armstead, Jerome Brown, lots have been said already. Edge in 98 Ed in 99 or 2000. Reggie Wayne had a big big Freshman year I recall. Obviously Dukes freshman year was good. The afore mentioned SR seasons of DP, Shaq, Rambo, and others.
Calais Campbell had some good years.
Let’s stay focused and get these old bucks reminding us of the 80’s guys that were beasts. Cortez Kennedy before being the #1 overall pick must’ve been good.

Tez wasn't the overall #1 pick, he was #3....Maryland was the #1 overall pick...

before the fiasco bowl game, my bro and I were with Vilma's dad and we discussed how Gore was back to full health and was tearing up the first team in practice.

I told them that if McGahee gets hurt, we better burn Gore's redshirt.

Low and Behold, Clappy did not play Gore when McGahee got hurt, and Gore left without using that redshirt year. What a waste!!

One of the major crimes committed in this program’s history.

A sentimental nomination from my freshman year:

Otis Andersen, 1978-
In 1978 he set university records for 100 yard rushing games with 8 in 11 games, consecutive 100 yard games with four, and carries in a single game with 39. That season he earned acclaim by being named first team All-American by both The Sporting News and the Football Coaches Association.

I'll add that we had a non-existent passing "attack" with Kenny McMillan at QB.
He scored 11 TD's that year on a team that averaged 17 ppg.
Oh yeah...a little icing... he had 2- 100 yard kickoff returns for TD's. He averaged 32.9 ypr.

Not bad.

Ottis Anderson's 1978 season.

Most Canes fans dont realize how dominant Ottis Anderson was in 1978. When he ran the ball, it looked like a varsity player playing against JV talent. 1266 rushing yards on a mediocre 6-5 team. His greatest single run came in the final play of his career on the road at UF. Dude broke 4 tackles on a 6 yard run to score the game winning TD in the final minute.

I know he’s been mentioned, but aside from the obvious choices like Morgan and McGahee, for a single season performance Tremain Mack in ‘96 was incredible. Defense, kick returns, punt blocks. The way he would fly around the edge on those punt blocks was artistic perfection. I still can’t believe WVU elected to punt at the end of that game knowing he would be out there. Lol.

He's the reason I became a Cane in 1975....
That Winning TD vs UF in 78 is Legendary....

Was at the game standing on the sidelines freezing my *** off....not UM vs Texas freezing, but freezing nonetheless...my 1st away game while Chuck was their.

Sorry but McGahee in 2002 by a landslide. His numbers will never be duplicated and I'm not sure anyone will come close. ****, Edge, Portis, JJ, Gore, Duke, Miller did not come close. The TD's alone are beyond comparison.

On defense I have to go with Morgan in 2000 or Sapp in 1994.

And Heisman snub SMH

The man was not going to be stopped.

People remember him plowing over guys in his later years when he was winning Super Bowls with the Giants.
At UM, he was big, tough, and fast.

He told me Dallas was the team he thought he was going to.
I told him he was crazy. There was no way he was going to be around at the end of the first round.

One of the worst play calls of all time in college football.

I think the anti-UM sentiment was just too high in 2002 and then we had the BS argument that Dorsey and McGahee were taking votes from each other. I love Dorsey but your point about UM losing some games that year without McGahee is spot on.

Larry f-king Johnson won the Heisman over McGahee
As bad as that guy from Purdue winning the Thorpe over Reed.
USC QB Carson Palmer won the 2002 Heisman.
