Great Single Season Performance Nominations

Pittsburgh could have been a loss.
FSU the catch at the end
I think we would have beaten V-tech regardless, but the 6 TD's sure helped

ATL, I really believe Willis was on the verge of winning the Heisman( I dubbed him 'Willis McHeisman' that season on Grassy) as he was on the verge of scoring his 7th TD after Winslow's punt block near VaTech's goal line

But....f'n Chud (who I believe wanted Dorsey to win it), just had to call that ill-fated halfback throwback to Dorsey (that Willie Pile took 100 years for a pick six)

That still ****es me off till this day

Willis is one of my all-time favorite Canes. Good guy too, I'm told. Nobody has a bad word to say about him

Dan Morgan 2000.

Butkus Award, Bednarik Award, Nagurski Award.

One of the greatest seasons for any defensive player anywhere, ever.

I think it's less than a handful of defensive players who have won that 'Triple Crown' in a single season...

I think the only other player to do it was Manti Teo.

IIRC, Leonard Hankerson had a 1000 yard receiving season or two

I know Andre Johnson did in 2002

Greg Mark in 1989 had a load of sack, like 16 or so

One of the worst play calls of all time in college football.

I think the anti-UM sentiment was just too high in 2002 and then we had the BS argument that Dorsey and McGahee were taking votes from each other. I love Dorsey but your point about UM losing some games that year without McGahee is spot on.

Larry f-king Johnson won the Heisman over McGahee
As bad as that guy from Purdue winning the Thorpe over Reed.

I like the Gerald Willis one. He lived in the backfield that year.
It’s thought to compare the newer guys vs the guys during the glory days. But there was some studs after 2005. Duke’s soph year was good too. Obviously not McGahee or Edge good but still solid numbers.

Pretty sure he got some Heisman votes that year.

You're right. McKinnie finished 8th. Look how good the bottom of that list is and how pedestrian the QB numbers were in 2001.

Willis is the right answer - but in terms of making jaw dropping plays

2001 - Frank Gore Pre-ACL's
2003 - Sean Taylor
2004 - Devin Hester

They're on my "I've never seen anything like this...I can't even comprehend what I just saw" list
