Graig Cooper

**** - you'd know better than me then.

Why did we drop him? I know he was the highest ranked RB that we signed that year by far.

My memory was we "dropped" him because he was never actually that serious bout us, and he was always linked to Penn St. & Pitt and we couldn't get him to visit.
He was either the highest ranked or second highest. Cant really remember but 3 of the 4 were high ranked in that class. If I remember right it was lesean, Andrew Johnson & Bobby Washington. If I remember correctly Bobby was the highest rated but I could easily be wrong. Think the 4th was damien berry but I'm not positive on that either. It was never how serious he was it was he had a relatively serious injury his senior year & onion since he decided he didnt see enough out of him at juco (either Milford or new Berlin,Cant remember)dropped him for coop. Wouldve been real nice to have both. Especially since Bobby didnt get in cause of his baby mama either.

Coop was the truth. Beyond that knee injury the sad **** is because we decided to take coop who started at his juco we gave up on his backup who happened to have already been committed to us... anyone remember who his backup was at juco, who was committed to us the year before. I'll give yall a reminder that was lesean McCoy that onion said we don't want anymore since we got supa coop. Could of had them both if we wanted them

Oh do I remember, every visitor that entered my apartment at the time had to watch his film. I was in love with shadys highlights. I was as excited about his commitment as any player we’ve landed.

I remember being disappointed watching Coopers film, I always thought he was slow. More quick and agile. He was no Shady.

I was at the Citrus bowl when he shredded his knee, ironically I told my girlfriend before kickoff “this field has no business having a sporting event on it”.

That injury finished him off, I don’t think he was a pro back before injury but it ended any chance.

coop - slowest fast guy at UM during that era.

He had those high knees , like he was getting it down field. Like the little kid swinging his arms really fast while running , but his legs aren’t moving nearly as fast lol.

I don't think we dropped McCoy. McCoy's original commitment to us was a surprise (everyone knew he wasn't going to qualify), but it was pretty obvious he was never coming to Miami. I don't think McCoy ever even visited Miami.
Wrong

I too saw it happen live....Ironically, a few months after that debacle of a bowl I met Steve Hogan (Chairman of Citrus Bowl Committee) at a Hospital function. My GF was/is a RN at Fl Hospital, and we were introduced to him. I pretty much layed into him (respectfully) about the horrid conditions of the field (both games) and was responsible for Coop shredding his knee...GF asked me politely not to show my *** when it was brought to my attention who he was...Lol....

I remember a bunch of hs games had been played on it and maybe another bowl. It was just atrocious. I was legit hot about the injury, especially after talking about it in pre game.

Also I froze my *** off that night , one of the coldest nights I’ve experienced in Fl. And yes I’m a stereotypical pushy Floridian.

I was hanging with my son and tailgating with CMar (RIP)....and surprisingly enough, Lamar Thomas....Allen Bailey's peeps were close by as well.

Our evals took a hit those years Shady was way better IMO. We were able to get some kids being we were relevant still but the shift to the sec had began already and bags were going hard. If u looked at the 99-03 talent we put in the league it was amazing. After that u started seeing the SEC putting savages into the league more frequent and everything shifted and its been the same since.

Johnson and Washington were a few years earlier.

The other RBs in the class with Cooper in '07 were Shawnbrey McNeal and Lee Chambers. Also Damien Berry, but he was listed as a DB coming in.

I would get killed when I used to compare Yearby to Cooper.

But both were small, quick RB's that didn't have great speed. Both were good college RB's, not NFL guys.

They just catch some hate because their expectations were higher as recruits than they should've been.

Coop was faster than Yearby

We took Damien as a safety of I remember correctly. But I know for a fact he switched his position to RB while here.

Coop was faster than Yearby

True - Cooper was like 205 & 4.6 and Yearby was like 185 & 4.7.

Cooper was bigger and faster - but both were still small and slow. They were all quickness with no speed or power.

I was always a fan of Coop. Coop and Yearby's stats at Miami are almost identical.

Coop was the man. That 09 game was epic with him and Greg Reid going back and forth making plays
