I don't think individual grading in the first year is conclusive. I will give the staff a collective B+, with an up trend. This was their first year, they showed progress over what we had last year. Next years on field performance and execution, with more position depth, will provide better data for us to grade this staff.

For example, I don't really give Dugans credit for Richards, he is who I thought he was - a f*cking beast. Then again he could be a great coach, very difficult to say on one years evidence.

Exactly. If Richards regresses (like talent under previous regimes), we'll know.

Brown - D+ The way the RB position was managed this year was just dumb. We had one of the top running games after the first four games with Walton and Yearby. Then he started transitioning to a primary back offense and the running game struggled every since. For him to not be able to evaluate the things that work successfully for the running game is just disappointing.

Why would you attribute all this to brown and not richt?

Because Brown is the Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs. He is in the best position other than the DC to sell his players to Richt on playing time. And as a Bruh I hold him more responsible for not handling the situation better even if he was directed to do so by Richt!

Offensive Staff - low C
The offense severely underachieved at times. They lack innovation. They're a grab bag with no identity. One second they're trying to run the ball out of the I-formation, the next second they're in the spread running RPO's. Sometimes they're just downright embarrassing. Only reason I don't grade them lower is because I don't think we have talented depth at OL and WR, and I also understand how inconsistent Kaaya can be at times. However, I do acknowledge the great blocking by the WR's and I also appreciate the fact that we've implemented some spread concepts such as RPO's. (which we kill people with)


Defensive Staff - A
Incredible what Diaz has been able to do with so many young players. What makes it more impressive is that he ain't exactly keeping it simple. We run different stunts, blitzes and coverages and somehow he's been able to keep the errors to a minimum despite having so much youth at LB. I also love the energy on defense. These guys fly to the ball and they bring the wood. A perfect example is the fumble that Chad Thomas caused. Thomas actually lost contain on that play but because he ran to the football with 100% effort he was able to get back into the play and make a big hit for a turnover.

Essentially this but I'll bump Rumph to an A+ because Coach Richt theoretically said make a solid house out of twigs and duct tape

LOL at 4 senior DBs (3 of whom will likely be on NFL rosters next year; 1 of whom is a top 3 CB in college football) being twigs and duct tape.

Part, if only a small part, of the reason Corn excelled is the coaching of Rumph. And although I think Rumph did a good job, especially when it comes to some of the young guys like Malek, I would give him a B. I think part of the reason the secondary did as well as it did, is because of the way the front seven played.

The reason our secondary was so poor as a group over the past several years is because they were needed to stop the run and the pass. The front seven this year actually did their job (and did it well), taking a ton of pressure of the DBs.

Goes both ways. I saw a lot of sacks this year because the secondary had great coverage.

I know Dugans has some misses in the recruiting world and not giving him credit for Richards (because the dude is a flat stud) I still give him an A because I would challenge you to find a receiving core that blocks the way our receivers block. You got a guy like S. Coley who came back to improve his draft stock working his a$$ off every play to pick up blocks. That's all about unit philosophy and ill take it ever time. And moving on to Rumph those CB's can tackle

We struggled yet our starting RB ran for over 100 yards in 3 straight ACC games. lmao

watching this staff. starting 5 true fresh on defense (after losing aqm and grace last minute) basicaly with same defensive line. al golden and coach d should never get coaching jobs again as HC or DC. Golden blamed these kids for not trusting his systems. Look how elder and others developed, learned how to tackle, etc. Diaz is not running a simple system either. Dugans and Richt helped Coley make some good money and i def seen improvement in walton.

Richt - B- (From a management perspective, he made some great hires on the defensive side of the ball. Offensive play calling was a little spotty at times.

Jon Richt - C- (Kaaya didn't really progress as much as I thought he would. Has major pocket presence issues that did not appear to be addressed much.

Brown - B- (Hard to really grade him out fairly with as awful as our OL performed.

Hartley - A (Only because I'm afraid that creepy ******* would find a way to make me come up missing if I graded him anything lower

Searels - D (I know he didn't have much to work with talentwise, but I feel like several players actually regressed under his tutelage (McDoormat, Linder, Isadora to an extent). He did actually figure out a way to make Alex Gall serviceable, so I am not giving him an F.

Dugans - B+ (Very pleased with the effect he had on Richards and Coley this season.

Kool - A+ (Monster coach. Monster DL recruiter. MVP of this coaching staff

Diaz - A+ (The mastermind behind the defense. Enough said

Rumph - B (He made Corn a very rich man this year. He likely coached Colbert on to an NFL roster. And Young developing nicely under Rumph. Need some more results on the recruiting trail.

Banda - C (Did't see a whole lot of development at the S position. J Rock was the same player as years past. Jenkins improved a bit. And I know I will get murdered for saying this, but I am just not that big of a fan of Jaquan Johnson. He just doesn't wow me. I expected more based off of his hype out of high school. Hopefully Banda coaches him up a bit for next year.

Kaaya looked the same as he did last year once we got him back in Shotgun and spread the field out. I don't think he's developed at all under Jon Richt and I've no idea what credentials he actually has to be QB coach at the U besides his dad being HC.

Searels I'm giving a pass to until next year. I don't think it's any surprise that once we put bigger bodies in the game (Gall, Gauthier) we started to have more success offensively. Linder has played himself to the bench - he's just not big enough for what they want to do.

I too am a little underwhelmed by Jaquan Johnson, but he's clearly a good player. He's just not a great athlete.

I would give Diaz a A+ if not for giving up a lead in the Golden Shower game he would get a plus. He still gets an A and Cool gets my A+. Offense Thomas Brown C-' Searles D+ (and giving the plus because the talent sux). Dugans gets an A an amazing job with WRs.

Rick gets a B and Rick Jr gets a B-.

Diaz gets an A. Plain and simple and not much more needs to be said. His unit vastly outperformed expectations and he did it with a ton of youth and in the face of losing Grace and AQM before the season even started.

My issues with Richt calling plays is well documented on these boards. He's conservative by nature and against the better teams on the schedule the offense flat out ignored the middle of the field. It feels like every passing play is 4 verticals. Cross routes and digs are few and far between. Too many running plays into loaded boxes as well. The WV game was a better showing but it's hard for me to forget about the month of October and what a difficult time Richt had adjusting the offense in crucial games.

Bottom line....this year was a wasted opportunity. The month of October was an unmitigated disaster and just winning the home games would have gotten us a Coastal championship. The schedule was relatively easy when you consider we got FSU at home and Notre Dame on a down year.

Bottom line Richt is making a lot of money. If he wasn't **** bent on calling his own plays I probably wouldn't be this hard on him but he needs to either bring a dedicated OC on board or rethink the offensive scheme. I just honestly feel bringing a dedicated OC on board will not only make the offense better, but it will make Richt a better head coach by freeing him up from the grind of play calling and allow him to handle the team on a macro level.

If he's going to insist on calling plays he needs to kill it in recruiting to make up for his play calling deficiencies. The losses to UNC and Notre Dame were just simply unacceptable. The loss to FSU was a gut punch. I can forgive the VT loss due to the fact it was on a short week and it was AT V tech.

We ended the bowl streak this year...next year needs to be the year we finally take our rightful place atop the Coastal.

Other than Dugans the offensive staff was very mediocre. I liked Brown's work with the RBs for the first 4 games but for some reason he gave Walton way too many carries in the last 8 games.

Al Golden actually left decent talent on the offensive side of the ball. Regardless of how poorly developed the talent was the talent existed. Defense is where Golden left a total mess behind.
