Gotta think this is curtains for the entire defensive staff

Like I said the blame falls at the top on these so called coaches.. they the ones whose training and coaching these kids. A Real head coach knows in game adjustments. And staff evaluations moving forward. Shamanny ain't ready for Big time coaching how many times do he have to show us... I ain't even mad at it him it's a university problem has always been 🤬🤬 sad it took this long to realize

Right now my gut tells Manny is going to fall on the same sword that ended Richt. Richt's pride wouldn't let him to ****-can his vastly unqualified son nor bring in someone else to run the offense. When the outside noise got too loud, he decided to retire rather than fire any of his boys or change up the offensive scheme.

This is Manny's D and his boys running it. For as smart and analytical as some claim him to be, I don't think his pride will allow him to admit that his D will never win championship football games, and he'd rather go down with the boat than turn the wheel over to someone else.

Now, if he does happen to clean house, what legitimate DC's out there would be willing to come work for him, and how much would it cost?
Bruh Manny ain't a real head coach for our university. He should've stayed at temple and proven himself.. but our university once again bamboozle us.. so now we out screaming changes.. and blaming players.. Let's get the right AD first and then come the changes

The DC is absolutely not the only issue.

DC/LB - Blake Baker (prior): DC Louisiana Tech
DL - Todd Stroud: DC Akron
LB/ST - Jonathan Patke: GA Mississippi State
CB - Mike Rumph: HC High School
S/Co-DC - Ephraim Banda: Quality Control Mississippi State

The results make sense - the majority are literally learning on the job.

Baker gotta go and Rumph

I’d give Manny one year to call his defense on his own to see if there’s improvement. On one condition - he spends the money on a top flight CB coach

1. Manny has an ego, & complex. He’s not hiring anyone he’s not comfortable w or feels could challenge him. He’s the type that think he’s the smartest in the room. If anything, if Baker is fired, he’ll probably lobby for Banda to take his place, legit.

2. Manny doesn’t control the spending; that’s on the admin

3. If there will be any casualties, it’ll be Rumph, first. Baker might or might not get canned b/c that’s Diaz’s boy.

It’ll be interesting to see how this all play out. Our DBs weren’t even our issue last game; it was the front 7, strikers, and S. But if I was a betting man, Rumph would be the first casualty b/c he’s not part of the club.

If I worked in the Hecht I'd sneak into Diaz's office and leave a 10x4 black and white photo of Al Golden and Mark D'Onofrio on his desk for him to discover first thing Monday morning.

Learn from Golden's mistake.

Naaah, it's like doing a lung transplant trying to improve breathing in a patient with end-stage heart failure. Hey doc, the patient needs heart transplant........lol
Get us an effective "heart", AKA HC, people.

The whole D staff will take the fall for manny’s issues. Not to say they aren’t to blame, but he is a Defensive minded head coach. He isn’t exempt from any of this and has a lot of oversight on this defense. If he doesn’t replace his D staff, I look forward to him being replaced next season

As basic as it was, you at least saw chazz surratt spy King, one example of team specific scheming.

I raised this issue prior to the Clemson game. I wondered if we would have our DEs getting too far upfield, creating lanes for TLaw and Etienne to gash us with. The way that game played out was more of a smothering of our offense. But I had the same questions coming into the UNC game. Are we going to adjust the scheme to account for the explosive UNC run game? Check my post history. I didn’t think we’d be able to stop them at all, and I thought it’d be the run game that hurt us. I was correct.

When you combine poor pregame scheming with awful in-game adjustments (manny was solid as a DC with halftime adjustments, but that has gone by the wayside in the baker era), you have a recipe for disaster any time you face an opposing staff with a pulse.
Scheme would look just fine with competent LBs and better safeties.

It would look better, for sure. Whether it would be fine is debatable. Whether fine is good enough is also debatable.

What is not debatable is that we don't have the competent LBs and safeties you speak of. Therefore, adjustments to the scheme are/were necessary, but were not made. How do I know I am correct? 62-26 and almost 800 yards of total offense.

Manny's scheme, with NFL EDGE rushers, disruptive DTs, fast LBs that can diagnose, shed blocks & tackle, and safeties that are good in space and sure tacklers, would presumably work fine. But wouldn't pretty much any scheme work if you had that kind of talent?

You play your best 11, and you scheme to hide deficiencies. This staff does not do that. They go down with the ship, running the same scheme regardless of opponent or tendencies.

Oh for sure no excuse for not making adjustments. And Blake had been getting better about that in games. But not Saturday.

McCloud, Jennings, and Steed after all the injuries just don't have the athleticism and instincts to do what they're asked to do in this defense. Brooks is also nowhere near 100% per Dmoney. I don't think Flagg has the athleticism either but at least he has instincts. Was rather shocked they didn't pull Jennings earlier with how badly he played.

With all the talk about the scheme the past few days, most of the focus has been on the gap integrity as it relates to the run game. Fair conversation to be had, considering we gave up 550 on the ground.

Problem is, we could've just as easily been gashed through the air. UNC is multiple and could've give it to us any way they wanted to.

Another requirement for Manny's scheme to be truly successful are lockdown corners. What you see now is corners the staff is not fully confident in, so we give up so much underneath stuff to prevent the big play if the pass rush doesn't get home. Your classic "bend but don't break."

That can obviously be exploited, as well. QBs that process and get the ball out quickly can pick us apart. That's why we've made several pedestrian QBs look like they should be in the CFB Hall of Fame.

My point is, if the scheme only works with elite talent at every position group, then do you really even have a scheme? The novelty of the scheme in 2017 was great, and the turnover luck went in our direction. Turnovers tend to regress to the mean... you can see this first hand, as we haven't been able to replicate our 2017 numbers, even though we run the same scheme and have similar talent. Had we not gotten all those turnovers in 2017, would so many, myself included, have loved this scheme so much that it got Manny the HC gig? My guess is no.

Don't be like the other team in Florida. We need to make those tough decisions and get rid of guys that are under performing. great coaches make those decisions. Defense needs a new voice. LB, CB's needs a new voice.
