Gotta think this is curtains for the entire defensive staff

I'm know Baker is not the solution, but last night we saw an unfocused undisciplined team. They clearly felt good about Duke and we're not ready to play. That is on the HC and the players as much as the DC. If Baker had UNCs backers, what would this defense look like? We have a severe lack of talent to play at this level beyond the DL.

Otherwise Manny is risking his job (likely ending at after or in the middle of next season) over personal loyalty to his buds. He's more ambitious than that though. Isn't he? Maybe Stroud survives.
I can assure you it's not coach rumph or coach stroud's fault, it coach diaz scheme being run by a guy who is a lesser d-co mind than coach diaz, which is bad news when we all know coach diaz wasn't exactly the best D-co himself.

Them ****'s played the defensive end wrong basically all game long and when you don't have your d-linemen and linebackers playing in harmony with each other all defensive scheme long, the veteran coaches are going to expose you. I'll repeat, mack brown made sure to show everyone why he was justified in firing coach diaz. The sad part about it, in a game like yesterday, even the penn disgrace morons would've done a better job because we all witnessed the d-line waltz dancing with o-linemen technique they kept being taught, yesterday, even that technique would've slowed em down.

3rd and 26 and they run a simple off-tackle trap play and pick it up. Those 2 UNC backs have probably never been this tired after a game, running free like that all day will wear you out, they were out their begging people to tackle them.

For comparison reasons what was Manny’s Def like the rest of the year at Texas? Did it look statistically like ours this year? Yes I know we have inflated numbers against bad teams and i think that might be a reason he doesn’t fire the second worse D coordinator in school history.

I mean, Manny cleaned house on offense last year when it was clear he had to. So it would stand to reason he's gotta make the tough calls on his boys.
The difference is that this is his defense, I don’t think he’s man enough to admit his scheme doesn’t work and bring in someone to run something different

Baker gotta go and Rumph

I’d give Manny one year to call his defense on his own to see if there’s improvement. On one condition - he spends the money on a top flight CB coach
This IS Manny's D. These are Manny's players. He has no one to throw under the bus at this point.

Good. In that case I hope they all stay. The faster Mandy is shown the door the faster we have a chance at becoming relevant once again. And not one day sooner! Guy is hot garbage! Always has been..

Ed Reed can’t fire anybody. We know this.
True, but he can quit if he thinks changes should be made and they aren't. Why should he have his name associated with this aberration? His name and association to this regime does carry clout so he does wield some influence in the program.

They ran the same dam running play over and over to the point I looked over at my brother in the stands and said "watch they're going to run that same play again for a TD and they did. There was absolutely no adjustment. Our DE's seem to only care about the sack. Our DT's were get manhandled up front. Our LB's don't pick the right gap "EVER"!!!!

I Hate this D scheme. I want the old 4/3 with LB's that can run and a DL that knows how to set the edge and DT's that are a wall up front. I want Corners who are dogs and press at the line. Why can't we get back to this???

It's not even about scheme. Scheme is a general outline. Our problem on defense is that we don't scheme for different teams. We basically run the same **** week in week out and on top of that we don't adjust well during the game. The coaching is abysmal.
As basic as it was, you at least saw chazz surratt spy King, one example of team specific scheming.

I raised this issue prior to the Clemson game. I wondered if we would have our DEs getting too far upfield, creating lanes for TLaw and Etienne to gash us with. The way that game played out was more of a smothering of our offense. But I had the same questions coming into the UNC game. Are we going to adjust the scheme to account for the explosive UNC run game? Check my post history. I didn’t think we’d be able to stop them at all, and I thought it’d be the run game that hurt us. I was correct.

When you combine poor pregame scheming with awful in-game adjustments (manny was solid as a DC with halftime adjustments, but that has gone by the wayside in the baker era), you have a recipe for disaster any time you face an opposing staff with a pulse.

flagg played a ton the entire game and had zero tackles. swallowed up or ran himself out of the play on every single snap i saw him in , which was plenty. the worst of the worst unit in this miserable game.
This team was a bad matchup for Flagg. This was the game for the “fast, athletic” LBs that everyone crowned as the next coming over the offseason to shine. they didn’t.

Flagg can diagnose and that leads to him being around the ball. But when we consistently give up the edge, he isn’t fast enough to go sideline to sideline vs UNC quality RBs. He was not put in a position to succeed yesterday. This also points to a lack of pre-game, opponent-specific scheming

true, but could not shed one block? Huff was in there for like 4 plays and shed a couple blocks, got a couple tackles

My post history will also show many, many complaints about our LBs ability to shed blocks. While it is definitely a teachable/developable trait, I’ve even gone so far as to suggest we look for the ability to shed at the HS level when we recruit LBs. If you can’t shed in this scheme, you’re fuct.
