OK, let's use the bowl game as an example. The defense actually wasn't awful for most of the first half. But, they got worn down because the offense couldn't get anything going, and they broke down in the 2nd half. Do you disagree with that assessment?

BTW, no one "accepts" that the defense sucked. We just know that it sucked and hoped that the talented, experienced offense run by a senior QB could've done something to help it out. This really isn't difficult to understand.

The offense mrs than the defense disappointed me this year. Every time we had a third down on offense you knew we were screwed. Wouldn't be surprised if we didn't make it into the top 80 in third down conversions. It got worse when Duke got injured,

Said the defense has improved. No longer relying on freshman. Need to get better - win more games. Offense was bad on third down and TOP. Both effect the defense. Will be more aggressive this year. Front 7 is improved. Deeper, faster, more athletic. Majority of playmakers are returning.

At least Golden mentioned this. I've said it for a while. As turrible as we were Defensively, our Offense didn't do them any favors as far as controlling the ball and sustaining drives like good Pro-style Offenses should.

Golden has no problem trashing the offense to protect his and his buddy's defense. He's been doing it since he got here. You never hear him trash the defense to protect the offense because that's not his side of the ball. He's an excuse making lout. Fck him.

Aside from Burns used sparingly near the end of the season, and AQM on 3rd downs, what freshmen played significant time, let alone were relied on?

Also, outside of Perryman, the real play makers of the team were true sophomores. The db's and AQM and McCord..McCord made more big plays then anyone on the team.

I'm not so sure about that man, I intern at Ucla working every game and attendance was poor all season, basketball games are laughable sometimes. USC has a way better fan base

Yeah, UCLA has a natural handicap with their stadium location. At least it's a classic venue, unlike our current dump. Mora can partially overcome it in the short term with upbeat results but make no mistake it's anything but ideal, just like the Canes' situation.

Very few fans in the East know much of anything about Pac 12 athletics. It's displayed virtually daily on boards like this. Like Herbstreit emphasized today on ESPN, fans in other regions of the country don't watch the Pac 12. Yet somehow the opinions are strong. One of the great litmus tests in all of sports, IMO, is opinion of Pac 12 football. I have to laugh at anybody who knocks it. Again, as Herbstreit mentioned today, those programs are mega talented and in particular they do a great job of developing skill position guys.

Sorry to hear about UCLA basketball. I assumed it would rejuvenate once Pauley Pavilion reopened after renovation. In my era at USC, basketball and volleyball at Pauley were packed, and great crowd energy.

USC may lack an on-campus football stadium but the walk across the street to Exposition Park is part of the daily football festivities. The long post early in this thread made the familiar mistake of ripping the area of the USC campus. It's a desperate theme among outsiders. But once you are part of the USC student body it literally never shows up as a topic or as a concern. It's a fantastic small campus with great landmarks and amazing camaraderie. I find myself chuckling every time a kid picks USC, envisioning outsiders baffled at the choice, as if they expect waves of criminals marching across campus every day.

Then I'm an excuse making lout, too...I guess. It's pretty evident that the D has sucked...I've said as much. I hate the scheme too, and fear that it won't change until Golden/D'Onofrio are gone. I have NO reason to protect the defense as you're saying Golden does.

However, given that our O sucked too...it's not an excuse or copout to point that out equally. The main difference to me is that we still had JAGs playing defensively (Cornileus, Gaines, Green, Rodgers, Highsmith, Fentress, etc)...but on offense...we had a ton of talent, even if Morris was a mental midget most of the time. We should have been a ball control O first, and took our shots less liberally. That's not excusing the defense...that's realizing it sucks, and keeping your weakness off the field as much as possible.

If you accentuate your strengths and lessen your opponents' advantages, then you've got a better chance to win.

The bowl game was a good example of how the offense was contributing to the defense's ****tiness. We went 3 and out 4 times in the first half, 5 and out another time, the D actually played pretty well for the first few possessions, then just wilted after a while. That's not to excuse their play, but you have to imagine that those first few possessions would have done more good if the O had moved the ball and put a few points on the board. Then the defense isn't completely gassed and they are playing with a lead. Sure a good defense would still get it done, but we know the defense isn't at that level.

But all of that doesn't excuse Golden, because he's the head coach, he approves the game plans, he approves the play calls, he sets the direction for the coordinators. He knew the defense was capable of playing well for a handful of possessions per game and decided to go with a no-huddle deep bomb offense that put the D out there for 15 possessions per game.

If the offense would've been more efficient then our D would've been better. Our 3rd down conversion % was abysmal. Yup even worse than the defenses 3rd down %.
We get either problem corrected next year and we should have a **** good season.

Just because the D would've been on the field less doesn't mean they would've been better. We're going to give them less opportunities to be completely hopeless. This is what Golden is trying to sell and it is stupid.

What D is better the longer it's out on the field? AG doesn't have to sell me on anything. That's some basic ish imo.

this is football 101, against Duke we were running at like 7 yards a pop, yet the OC allowed Morris to throw the ball around and therefore, allowing duke to run over us. instead of Duke running the ball 50 times, we should have and we could have.

Did he mention why he lost Powell, Bethel, and TV down the stretch? Did he discuss why he went O-fer on the top WR in our back yard? How about how in the world did he miss out on 3 top RBs in our own back yard? What about his "expertise" in flipping; did he explain why he couldn't do that this yr? Or finally, did he mention why he went from saying that he would sign 30 kids this yr, to all of sudden only being able to offer 1 or 2 more?? I use to support AG, but now it's becoming a vicious cycle.

Maybe it's not Al; maybe it's our facilities. Maybe it's not having our own stadium or maybe it's a matter of kids not wanting to play in front of only 30-40k fans in a stadium that fits 75k. Maybe our college football experience is not something kids are drawn to here. I think back to when we had the OB....did we have this type of problem recruiting kids?? I recall the problem started happening shortly after the OB closed down. So what can Al do to put ppl in the stadium so that ppl r not bored @ our gms?? Winning is always a cure, but something more has to be done. It's one of two things we can do, it's either A) this admin break a very friendly lease w/ Craplife Stadium and move somewhere closer (i.e. Marlins park, or do some renovation at Tropical Stadium to make it college friendly) or B. pull a Howard Schellenberg and make our home games cheap to the entire community to get them to support our boys....either way something has to give.
I don't think it's all AG....we just don't offer that type of atmosphere that a OSU, Mich, ND, FSU, Clemson, or UF have to offer!!
I've heard the argument that city of Miami, primarily South Beach, has so much to offer and fans get caught up in every day activities, it's not like it use to be...I'm sorry, I live in L.A and there is waaaaaay more to do in L.A. than South Beach and yet USC sells out every single game in a crappy stadium in one of the hardest neighborhoods in L.A (South Central) w/ the Lakers playing right down the street from them, car shows are constantly down the street from them, along w/ a 5 star hotel that offers it's on entertainment, movie theatres, and more importantly w/ HOLLYWOOD 8 minutes away from them; yet, on Saturday, they still sell out their home games. UCLA keeps a pack house as well, and their stadium is further from their campus w/ worst traffic conditions than SunLife from UM's campus. Something has to change to lure these kids to us. It can't just be about our past....yes a winning product will be the main key, but we gotta start supporting these boys more at the stadium. I try to make at least 4 games a yr each yr and it's funny how empty Sun Life is...you can hear the kids talk to each other!!! So think, if you are a 4-5 star recruit, do you really want to come out to mediocre fan base who you can barely hear you chant your name?? Of course you don't.
We can't keep living in the past, we as a fan base, have to start supporting these kids win or lose and I bet you, when kids see our games on TV and see how packed our stadium is, they will flock back to us. Too many pics of HS kids yawning and tweeting during a game w/ like 50 empty seats around them. Not a good look...so yes, some of the blame is on AG and his scheme, some of it is falling upon Shalalah and Blake not going hard in the paint at moving to an established closer stadium that fits our fan base or rennovating a closer stadium, and some of it falls upon us as fans who complain all day long, but ain't supporting them at home games either to draw recruits.

okay I got thru that.....took some time...Valid points but here is the big answer..no coaches anywhere in the country will name kids after they lose them. We ****ed up for sure on KEY Miami guys and nothing shows or tells me it gets any better in 2015 class in south Fl...we can hire every HS school coach in Dade and kids are going to get lured away...I repped ya for the effort

He won't because he is not allowed to by rule even if he wanted to do so. Powell was the second back in the class. Florida offered once Cook decommitted. That was the offer Powell was looking for. Florida only signed one back.

Bethel ended up in Lubbock, no Miami, no Florida, no Florida State. Why? I'd suspect everybody cooled on the kid.

Valentine was from Palm Bay, not exactly Hurricane Country. He transferred to play for some little private 2A school nobody heard of, in all places, Hialeah. The school wins the state 2A title, but it's probably going to get revoked. The kid was handled by some dude named Genron. The kid committed to 3 schools until he settled on L$U. Let's see. Les Miles was part of the Oklahoma State program that is being looked at by the NCAA. He is now at L$U. Randy Shannon walks out of the grandmother's house of a recruit who ultimately signs with L$U. Why? Because Granny was allegedly interested in what Miami could do for the family if you can catch my drift. And then there is the Patrick Peterson/Robinson story.
