Golden Doesn't / Can't Recruit S FLA.....WRONG!

We NEVER have and NEVER will get them all. Not even Butch got everybody. Thats just the way it is. If you think we are getting every elite kid in Dade and Broward and PBC every year you mide as well stop following recruiting. Even during the "Golden Age" years we lost guys. (1986-199, 2000-2003) All you can hope for is that we build the class with great SoFla talent and get a few SUPER elite guys here and there. This year I think we still have an outside shot at Sony and Lane.

To the poster above, KClark is not elite. The only ELITE guys left on our list are Sony, Cook, Lane, and Rudolph. (And frankly I dont think Lane and Rudolph are ELITE im just throwing them in there to keep the dogs away. Really only Sony and Cook are ELITE. Lanes and Rudolph come a dime a dozen in SoFla every year. Case in point, Ridley and Burgess Becker next year are going to be better)

This, great post. We have never landed every top prospect from S. FL and never will. Golden and Co. are doing a wonderful job in recruiting, now it is time to get it done on the field.

There's not a single coach in the country that could keep every elite SoFla prospect in Miami. With every single major program recruiting down here, you're going to have a few guys every year that simply want to leave the area.

Then just put up your list of the elite SoFla kids we did get the last 3 years and lets see if Golden is, as you say, "not getting them all", or if the majority are leaving.

My quick perusal of the rankings gives me this list:

JYearby
RJohnson
SColey
KCMcDermott
TDarling
EFlowers
CThomas
TValentine
AMoten
ABurns
THoward
DBush

Impressive, but shorter than the one of players who got away. So by all apperances, there are more great players leaving SoFla than staying. That does not = "not getting them all". That = getting less than half.

See above. The issue is not a few guys leaving. It´s way more than few. we´ll see how the 2014 class ends up, and I´m even more interested in a 2015 group with no sanctions to worry about. But to say that Golden is locking down SoFla this year, when the 3 top skill position players and the best player at our greatest need are leaving, is just plain homerism. And some of these kids (Michel, Clark) grew up as real fans, not your typical casual 18Y/O fan....season ticket holders for god**** sakes.

It's 2013, let's talk about 2013.

Guys who our staff seemed to generally recruit the **** out of who are committed elsewhere (please include more if I'm forgetting):
Sony
Cook
Lane (? did we really recruit the **** out of him?)
Rudolph

Lammons, Wilson, Clark, Scott, Holmes.... get the feeilng our staff didn't go balls to the wall for those guys. I'm not entirely convinced that Lane doesn't need to be in this category also.

Cook.... there are always kids with attitudes like this. He's this year's "I'm too cool for Miami" Matt Thomas figure, I think.
Sony - we need to flip him. Obviously something's up with his brother so it's not just a matter of flat out being "out-recruited".
Lane - if we are indeed balls to the wall, it's a miss. I just don't get it with him, though, I am #1 on the "he's not a big loss" crowd.
Rudolph - sounds like we screwed this one up.

I still think we get one of Cook/Sony. That would leave the other, Lane, and Rudolph. Missing on 3 kids a year is about as good as anyone has ever done here.

Not to be a debbie downer because he is doing a very good job, but there is still too much elite talent going elsewhere.

True Pete but you cant disagree that the man and staff aren't working their asses off right now.

Its also hard when you have guys up North talking a ton of s*it about our program and the other schools that are handing out $$$$$

I think a lot of people under-appreciate the desire of a lot of these kids to get out of SoFla, and they also grossly under-estimate the effects of gameday atmosphere and BMOC syndrome. As a born-and-raised south Floridian, I couldn't wait to leave. A lot of these kids have never seen anywhere else. It has to be a factor that some of these kids just flat want out, too. Our gameday atmosphere blows, and recruits who attend our games and those of other programs undoubtedly see that. They go on visits to college towns, where the entire town revolves around the university and football, and they are revered as the biggest of fish in a small pond. Some kids want those things, which we can't and never will deliver. Just the way it is. AG is doing fine in SoFla.

The problem with this perspective of guys getting away is you are building a team, this isn't 1965 where you could have 120 scholly players. Also, for example there are by all accounts 3 elite rbs of which Miami has 1. How can you then say they missed on the other two? I'm not saying that they aren't trying to get the other 2 just that it's not a true indication of the recruiting. Like someone stated above did u really expect to get all 3? Even they got 2 the other one would be on this list as "gotten away". If they look to sign 2 wrs in a class and there 4-5 really goods, we'll guess what 3 are getting away. Now if Miami is signing some 2 star recruit at Rb this year and all 3 signed elsewhere, that would count as a fail.

i understand where you are coming from and agree golden and the rest of the coaching staff have been "working their asses off". BUT Golden is SUPPOSE TO DO THAT. Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher, Brian Kelly, Butch Jones at Tennessee, Les Miles,Urban Meyer, lol DABO, etc...... all do the same **** thing. Which is bust their *** recruiting. Once again that is what coachesare suppose to do at ELITE programs.

It's all about RESULTS at the end of the day(signing day). While golden has done a very good job all things considered, THIS signing day will give a more accurate picture if what to expect in the future. However, up to this point there have been too many misses, even with the "cloud".

Matt Thomas-fsu
Jayron Kearse-Clemson
Avery Young-Auburn
Ricardo Louis-Auburn
Amari Cooper-Bama
Rashard Robinson-Lsu
Jaynard Bostwick-Uf
Eddie Goldman-Fsu
Damian Jacobs-UF
Tarean Folston-Notre Dame
Alex Collins-Arkansas
Pj Williams-fsu
Kerm hitfield-fsu
Keith Bryant-fsu
Leanord Williams-USC
Saki Moore-Didn't have an offer until signing day for whatever reason chose south car. and is playing well for a true freshman
Terrell Brooks-Baylor
Zorell Ezell-Baylor
Brian Poole-UF
Darius Hamilton-Rutgers lol
Denver Kirkland-Arkansas
Etc.....

People say focus on "now/2013-14". Well these misses have made an impact on the present and will make an impact on the future. Jayron Kearse would take snaps away from highsmit at safety. Goldman and Williams would have made a contribution on the dline, regardless of the "scheme". Alex Collins or Folston would provide much needed depth at running back........ You know the rest.

FreePawn, its a moot point because my definition of Elite and your definition of Elite are WAY diff. The only Elite guys we let get away in recent memory that totally did or could have changed the direction of this program are Patrick Peterson, Lamarcus Joyner, Matthew Thomas, Janorris Jenkins, Kelvin Benjamin, Alex Collins, Amari Cooper. Off the top of my head... THAT'S IT! Everyone else is replaceable. Rashard Robinson?? Really? Elite?? Avery Young? Keith Bryant? This is what you call Elite? Is Keith Bryant even playing? Elite guys FIND A WAY to get on the field! You are really reaching bro. Talk about Al all you want when it comes to our defensive schemes. When it comes to recruiting? He is a boss.

Not to be a debbie downer because he is doing a very good job, but there is still too much elite talent going elsewhere.

Fair enough. Hard to argue that but we will see if a combination of the NCAA cloud/building longer relationships/improvement on the field (shut up) can start to turn that tide.

We will ALWAYS lose some talent though, you can't get away from that. I mean does it mean Saban can't recruit because the #1 kid in Alabama went to FSU and is a Heisman candidate? I know you know the answer but some perspective is good here.

TP801, you have Kermit Whitfield on your list...............? REALLY??? LOL! And didnt Brian Poole get absolutely DUSTED by Dorsett this year. But he is a miss? Lol. Ok.

That's a dumb *** list ^ .... By a dumbass

Says the biggest dumbass of them all. Next time be quiet hoe.

Ummmm Eddie Goldman, PJ Williams, Leonard Williams, Whitfeild, Jayron Kearse were not South Florida guys among a few others on your list.

Yes we lost, but what can you do, we've been playing catchup for a while now even before Golden got here. Jimbo was out recruiting Shannon, and is out recruiting Al. Al has free reign now, no one knows how much the NCAA hurt us, but that excuse is gone now and 2015 must be a huge year to compliment this years very good class.

Yes, because for the FUTURE losing a kid like Kermit or Poole could/will have an effect. Kermit is probably one of the fastest freshman in the nation. People harp on the but but but "look at the past recruiting classes that's why the defense and or offense isn't getting it done." Ok. The same applies when projecting towards future seasons. Dt recruiting has not been up to par until this class. Travonte, Moten, courtel Jenkins, and Wyche are all GREAT pickups. However stuckey probably won't make it in, due to grades and Travonte supposedly has a class credit issue as well.

Leanord Williams was a south Florida guy. Doesnt matter if Goldman, Whitfield, Kearse(south fort myers), etc..... are south Florida guys. All of them would have contributed. Goldman is starting at fsu as a TRue sophomore, Leanord balled out as a freshman at USC and is projected to be a first round pick, Jayron is playing safety at clemson as a true freshman, pj Williams starting at corner as a true sophomore. People also le o harp on the "youth" issue but ELITE talent can still make significant impacts as freshman, sophomores.....,

Fsu has a true sophomore, Mario Edwards jr who is either a true sophomore or redshirt freshman, and Tim Jernigan true junior all starting on the dline. Doesn't seem to be a problem.

What can be done, is to improve recruiting..... Like I said THIS signing day will provide a more accurate picture as far as recruiting goes. I understand the "cloud" and like you said there's no way to measure the TRUE impact it had on certain kids.

Bama let Winston go.. What's the excuse just win

Bama did not let Winston go.... Saban personally recruited Winston however he wanted him to only play football. Jimbo told Winston he could play both football and baseball.

Thats why Saban im sure is licking his chops to get after Winston if Bama and FSU play in the National Title
