God help me I just watched a whole bunch of Albany football

I said after the GT debacle I wasn’t going to be a prisoner of the moment and unless year 3 went absolutely sideways (6 wins or less) I’m fully on board with giving Mario 4 years to get his **** together.

So regardless if we strike out on Tualia & Ward + end up with no one post spring I will give him his dues. If you want to roll with Reese’s cups & what we have in the cupboard (J11 & Emory) then go for it… just make sure next year you bring it.

I won’t be a hypocrite though, if Miami is back in the market for a portal QB for 2025 season chances are the writing is on the wall.

I'm not one to hype up freshmen QBs, much less high school QBs. But Luke Nickel is our QB of the future IMO. We just need to keep him and in the meantime find ways to win for the next 2 years.

Is there a way we can cut a boomerang deal with a FCS team to take and start Brown, then he can come back and compete in 2025 if he's any good? Won't do any good for 2024, but could solve our issue for 2025. That young man needs to learn on the job a.k.a Jordan Travis. And I don't want him doing that at Miami.

Yeah it’s a bad situation to be in…. Mario did it to himself. I think if Mario had figured out his own QB/OC situation year 1 & year 2 then no one would be upset with Jacurri learning on the job jn 2024. Problem is Mario was so underwhelming (for whichever reason you want it to be) that he needs to win NOW.

Also, you have to factor in this…. It’s year 3 if Mario can’t right the ship and continue to progress on the field, nothing else will matter.

If we don’t get a legit QB1 & win 7 games or so with the QBs we currently have, it’s more than likely Nickel is not in this class.

I didn't watch full game yet but seeing his center snap every ball I to the ground on legit like every play I've seen of his is infuriating, idk how Albany fans did that over a full season.

Okay folks, here we go - watched the Marshall, SDST, and Idaho condensed games and here's what I saw:

- Albany is tiny. They're not a bad FCS team just their lines are little, their RBs are little, they're just a small team. Pause.

- Believe it or don't I can definitely see the Mayfield comparison. Poffo has good mechanics when set, albeit a bit hitchy on horizontal routes. He has a compact release on deep balls, but off-balance is where he shines. Has that full body sidearm motion on the move. Extends plays with his legs but always looking to throw. He's probably a legit 6 foot. Taller and leaner than D King.

- Shockingly accurate deep ball. Like I was really surprised - his corner and fade routes are really well placed. Velocity over the middle is great. Definitely enough arm talent. Scans the field well - really surprised to see him go through reads.

- the 58% completion thing - I'll keep digging but I saw a ton of drops, throwaways on the run, etc. This isn't a "dude short hops passes" situation from what I could see.

- Albany hung with Marshall mainly due to their QB. Yeah it's Marshall but think of it like App St or Duke having to run out the clock vs FAMU and you'll get an idea of the talent gap

- I checked out the SDST game cause Albany got absolutely shellacked and I wanted to see why. Short answer is they were outclassed from the start. Poffo threw an INT on an RPO on the 2nd drive (not a terrible throw it was a quick hit over the middle and the LB made a great play) and they just couldn't get anything going. Ended up 30/44 with 3 picks. RB also gave up a fumble scoop and score. SDST D was all over the place.

All in all this kid is definitely a P4 QB, IMO. Can make every throw, has good wheels, shows toughness, makes good decisions. One "aha" play came in the quarterfinals v. Idaho. Dude stepped up, spun away from 2 guys and flicked it 45 yards to the back of the endzone for a TD.

I still think we need another experienced QB in the portal. That hasn't changed. But I'm less terrified with this take than I was a couple hours ago, so that's something I spose.

But I am personally holding you accountable if this blows side ways (pause)
