GOAT RB - Vilma tweet

I still don’t know how Terrell Davis is in the HoF

I wish I could like this a million times. I was ASTONISHED when he got in. And then you put it in the context that he got in over Edge???

He played for six years in a run-happy offense. He's nowhere near the top 10 in any significant statistical category that I know of. I'm livid.

Still think Edge gets in, and probably next year. Relatively weak class and no noteworthy eligible RB's or any (AP or Gore) becoming eligible in the next several years. It's time.

I'd say lots of really good backs, but very few great backs.

I'll also say that a healthy Frank Gore would have been amazing. I think he might have gone down as the best runner I've seen, though I don't think he would have been the most complete running back.

To be fair, some of these guys that we're talking about were not asked to catch the ball because in their era, they didn't or did very rarely.

Like TE's for example. Early TE's really didn't catch the ball much until Ditka made it popular.

Even though Shockey was flashier, I thought, and still think that Greg Olsen was a superior TE because he could catch passes too, but was a way better blocker.

Agree with Marshall Faulk being top 5.

Eh. I'd say the mar on him is similar to Emmitt (and really Edge as well, though I'm not saying he's top 5). He played in an offense that was really beneficial to his stats. But he is 12th in rushing yards and 8th in rushing TD's.

I care a lot more about yards/TD's per carry once you get into guys are who on the top 10 list.

Not really trying to make this a debate about the GOAT RB, though I'm sure it will turn to that. But want to survey the board. Vilma tweeted the GOAT's are Barry then Peyton. I'd tend to agree.

Funny thing for me is, you almost NEVER hear anyone argue Emmitt as the GOAT. I personally wouldn't put him in the top 5.

So the question is, does ANYONE here consider Emmitt the GOAT? If so, why other than "because he's the all time rushing leader."
Emmitt is overrated and let's be real if you put Frank behind that oline ajd with that fb and blocking te he'd have the rushing record and by a lot

Frank Gore should surpass Barry Sanders for #3 on the all time rushing yards list this year. I think Gore deserves consideration for top 5. Imagine what Gore could have done if he had never hurt his knees. Gore should receive consideration for the GOAT based on what he has been able to accomplish with 2 shredded knees.

My top 5
Barry
****erson IMO today would've been paid and as dominant as any rb we'd ever see
Faulk was super Roger Craig and insanely dominant
LT just below Marshall
Payton his highlights man just looked like he was on another level then anybody

If there is any justice in the world, he won't half to wait long for the call from the Hall. I'd say 2nd or 3rd Ballot.

He's one of my all time favs, alongside the Mad Stork and Rusty Medearis.

Thank you and thanks again. I cannot believe he got in as well. Those Denver offenses would literally get cab drivers off the street and they would rush for 1300 yards. They try to make excuses about injuries and stuff. GTFOH
There are many players who should be in like Edge, Steve Atwater, and Joe Klecko.

Needs 517 by my mental calculation. He's also 22 on the TD's list. You make good points here, and Frank Gore is not only one of my favorite 'Canes, but people, ever. We shared a freshman year at Miami.

BUT... he never really looked special in the NFL. He was overshadowed by AP and LT. He was always just consistently and quietly great, which is such a perfect metaphor for Gore as a person. Just humble as all ****, goes about his business, and outworks everyone. He really fits the super cliche even better person than a player.

The things that make Gore a great RB are hard to watch. He has probably the best vision I've ever seen. He has elite patience. He has outstanding balance. He's not that fast but he accelerates quickly. He's tough as nails and has a legendary work ethic.

He'll be a Hall of Famer and deservingly so, but he just doesn't look like the GOAT on film.

Simple because he was in a perfect era and behind a perfect oline so they love him. Now Clinton and Edge were better and still are waiting but hey
I imagine his QB lobbied for him pretty hard. A lot of politics involved.

Another good RB that probably should've made the hall was Ricky Watters. But people hated his attitude.

Now that T.O. got inducted, that excuse doesn't mean jack ****.

Totally agree. That's why it is important to define what you look for when discussing great. For me, it is the demonstrated complete back. For several others it appear to be more focused.

As an aside, I wonder how Marino would be viewed if he played in the modern era? In my opinion he would be in the conversation of best passer ever, but not best QB. And he'd be fighting it out with Mahomes for first QB taken in your fantasy league.

I'm sorry I'm not used to this level of things like "rational thought," "logic" and "truth" on CIS.

Great call there. Ricky Watters should be in but he gets persecuted for his honesty. He may get in on Veterans call...hopefully.

It’s Payton and Sanders and they are interchangeable. At least Sanders got to play w Hermon Moore, Brett Permian, and Rodney Peete. His OL was trash though.

Walter was the most complete RB in the game and he was on a team where fans were more interested in the defense hitting the field than the offense. He was the offense, as he was the receiver, the blocker, and running back.

Those are my 1a and b and they are interchangeable, imo.

If Bo stayed healthy, he may have took the crown. Never seen anyone like him w that speed and superhuman power.

Emmitt will never be in my top 5. I would’ve rushed for 1200/yr behind that line.

For me, personally it has to be Sanders. Adaptability at that level is godliness
