Give me our chances vs UF

With all the new talent this team has acquired, we should absolutely 100% win this game. Unfortunately for us, the game isn't played on paper but on the field. Considering our HC has a proclivity to making boneheaded gameday decisions, we probably win by 3-4 points. If we lose, the season could go off the rails big time.

Knowing how much this game means to UM and Mario in particular, with Cam leading the way, I'm thinking Miami finally shows up (I know, I know, we've been saying this for 20 years, but even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile) and Miami wins 27-13

Miami will have more talent on the field, and Miami has the advantage both ways on the line scrimmage.

I would love to see Arroyo have a breakout game and for Bain to become a house hold name after the game.

Mario has gotta gameplan and have the team come out amd play with the their heads on fire....none of this crap where we watch Florida score in their first drive while Miami sleepwalks for 1.5 quarters.

Miami 31
Lizards 13

I'm pretty confident in our chances. Two things that hurt us is that (1) this game is in the Swamp and (2) it's to open up the season. A later season game at the Swamp would be ideal. However, the key here is matchups. I think we match up well with them. I don't think they match up well with us.

Their offense will be decent at the least. Mertz is a good QB, they've got a good RB and talent in that room, and they have two pretty good WRs on the outside. Our secondary is going to be tested. The defense, though, is another story. They were god awful last year and bringing back their god awful DC isn't going to be any better. I'm highly skeptical they'll be able to stop Ward AND Damien Martinez and co. Also, we have the better lines. It's going to be very hard for their OL to stop our DL.

Billy is going to throw the kitchen sink in this game early and often. We cannot have a slow start. They beat a better Tennessee team at home last year (granted it was a night game) because they started hot, had a great 2Q, and coasted on that the rest of the game. If we can withstand their initial push and go up early, we'll be in good shape. I'll also say that Florida historically struggles against us, regardless of gamesite. Only exception to that rule is our matchup in 2008, where they beat us 27-3 in the Swamp (will note though, our 2008 true freshman laden team was in a dogfight Tebow and their all-time best team for 3.5 quarters).

Overall, I think the matchups favor us, and I think that our offense is going to be way too much for their D to handle.

I think in this day and age, with social media culture and especially with the players now being paid, that team leaders are the difference. It’s no coincidence that our coaches keep harping on having a player led culture. The comparison that should be made is which team has the better leaders on offense and defense. Accountability, perseverance, poise, focus and execution when things go bad or in preventing mistakes from occurring at all. Compare the vocal leaders on each side of the ball and you have the winner of this early season rivalry on the road.

I’m taking Cam Ward, Xavier Restrepo, Jalen Rivers and Anez Cooper on offense.

Francisco Maugoia, Rueben Bain and Mish Powell on defense.

Cam Ward is gonna carve them completely up and be the on field coach, motivator and leader we’ve needed. I expect big games from him, Jacolby George and Damien Martinez specifically. Mish Powell, Wes Bissainthe and the transfer LB Alderman have big plays on defense.

Is this a guarantee win? I don't know if Fletcher is playing but without him I feel like we might have trouble bc of the coaching staff..

We’re a 3 point favorite on the road . So it’s a legit toss up when you mix in home field but Miami is a 6-10 point favorite if it’s @UM or like it was in 19. Miami is the better team but early road games as a favorite always makes me uneasy. Imo the only way we lose is being careless with the ball and Ward is capable of those type games. That then causes a slugfest in the mud type game which plays into their hands. Other than that I can’t see Miami losing. We’d have to help some to drop this one.
I hear ya… only thing keeping me bullish on a solid win is that we will be better than them in the trenches and can lean on Martinez a bit to steady the ship…our defense will be important as well I think we smother them

This game could go several ways depending on how polished we are in game 1. That's the question for both teams.

With that said, if our offense is on schedule, I'm expecting a blowout. If Miami gets out to an early double digit lead, that home field advantage will be gone. Gator fans will turn on Napier. There's just too much firepower on our offense. Will they show oit in game 1 is the question?

Florida was one of the worst teams defensively last year. I don't know how that gets fixed for game 1. Sure, they should be better than last year, but how much do they improve for game 1 2024? Florida was 70th against the pass and 79th against the run. I expect improvement, but I don't see that team breaking into the top 20 in either category. I firmly believe Miami will have ample opportunities to score.

In order for this to be a close game, Miami will need to play sloppy getting penalties and turning the ball over.

I believe by the end of the year, Miami has a top 10 offense and a top 20 defense. Its a matter of csn they play at that level in game 1? Miami was 24th in total defense last year. The defense was really good, they were just overshadowed by offensive turnovers and poor QB play.

I'm expecting Cam Ward to make a statement in game 1. He's going to announce himself as one of the best QB's in college football.

My bold prediction: Canes 42 - 17.
