CFB Georgia to sign NIL bill. (But now there's a catch--see post #5)

All of this stuff is fake and there’s no movement until the NCAA sets its own guidelines, or some federal legislation happens. But hilarious nonetheless to see Kemp openly supporting socialism and redistributive policies with this.

That’s what good ole boys do when its good for the good ole boys. Socialism only matters when the money is going to the wrong people.

This is the plantation sharecropper mentality and policies of college sports. Where has a college institution taken 1 knickel let alone 75% of any non athlete student's income? Could you imagine a university saying were going to take 75% of your internship income because we educated you in your field of study or we're taking 75% of your YouTube revenue for business and maketing majors. Just crazy!!!

ABSOLUTELY.

I hate derailing the threads with politics, but this is so blatant and egregious. The idea of young black men making money is more than so many people can take. It fueled the idea of shamatuerism for so long.

These underhanded tactics pervade all aspects of our society, and they are protected with the concrete and steel of playing dumb and cognitive dissonance.

They better. I would never believe those schools to be that stupid.

But the sheer audacity! The hubris! The tumerity! The unmitigated gall for a bunch Republicans to sit down and put their cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy on display for the whole world to see.

You usually don’t see this type of boldness much anymore.

I'd probably say socialism matters in many contexts (most bad) but your point here still stands as Crony Capitalism practiced by many of the good ol' boys you mention is basically just socialism for the rich/connected.

75% nonesense is a terrible look. Awful.

My guess the highest NIL earners will be female athletes on OnlyFans.

And in all fairness crony capitalism is practiced by many "groups" even as they preach against socialism for everyone else.
Political corruption knows no racial, gender, ethnic or party limitations.

So one can't help but wonder who asked for the 75/25 split if the 2 flagship schools in the state already came out against the law. After all, UGA and GTech are the only 2 schools in Georgia who could ever have an athlete that will benefit from NIL and therefore, the only 2 schools that ca financially benefit from the law. So if the law was not backed by UGA (no way GTech was this dumb) then who asked for the split AND was so blind as to not see the terrible optics?
It's like just when you think humans aren't as dumb as they can possibly be, they prove you wrong

I have no idea on why that was included but there may be times where a players pool makes sense. For example, the NFLPA gets paid for Madden and that money goes towards taking care of retired players. I could see situations where a school use players as a product to raise money and keep some of the income.

Good point and I hadn't considered that. But the NIL portion is all anyone will talk about leaving a permanent stain on this law.

On income taxes....if say Miami plays at USC, will California tax 1/12th of a Cane players NIL earnings? How about when Miami plays at Pitt or Taxachussetts? Income tax on the teams playing in the Rose Bowl?

On a related matter, if you are say a 5 star recruit, and you are selecting between playing in a high tax state or a low/no tax state, does that fact play into consideration? Big potential difference in net earnings for say a Jake Garcia to be playing in Florida and not Cali.

ultimately all these state NIL laws are enacted to force all the payments over the table as opposed to under the table, thereby making every transaction taxable. Regardless of which entity receives the income the state will take its cut.
the politicians could care less who gets what percentage. If UGA wants to give 100% to the player that is their prerogative, but the Stathe takes a cut of the total pie regardless of distribution.

Then you don't live here.

If you do, then you are just plain stupid. The glasses you look out of are filthy.
Just look at the recent laws passed in this state legalizing driving into protestors, Stand your ground where you can shoot someone if you feel threatened, and the voter suppression bill signed into law this week. All designed to disenfranchise minorities. People elect these people that create and pass these laws. They represent their views and beliefs. Florida is just another deep south state like the rest. South Florida and Orlando are different, but the state is filled with just as many rednecks with the same beliefs and prejudges. Some of which are on this site.
