Gentleman, we have a real football program. (Clinic recap)

After Coker, Randy, Golden, and Díaz, there is a completely different feeling with this program, from the Administration, AD all the way to Mario. It’s almost too good to be true.

That being said, I can understand any fan who is tired of the hype and wants to see results. We have all drank the kool aide before and learned it was fools gold. Hopefully, this is entirely different.
Except Golden, common denominator is that they all lack head coaching experience. Golden’s failure comes mainly from stubborn refusal to fire dorito.

There are different TYPES of results. Obviously results on the field are the goal ... and we won't see that impact until the season begins and games are being played. HOWEVER there are other results that we are seeing each day now with the new staff in place that are RESULTS of major changes in the way the UM program is being run and is being perceived by high school coaches, recruits and parents of recruits:

1). The large volume of elite recruits visiting UM practices during Spring ... a level unmatched in a couple of decades.
2). Positive reception and comments by high school coaches regarding the professional manner in which UM is running
the football program ... in every facet ... from coaching clinics, player practices, player development.
3). Aggressive manner in which the transfer portal is being managed by the new staff.
4). The quality and quantity of alum visitors to practices as well as "guest speakers" for coaching clinics.

The initial results are clear ... the program is being RUN in a dramatically more professional and effective manner that WILL pay significant dividends in improved recruiting, improved player development, improved roster and ... where we all want to be ... with winning the Coastal and the ACC.

a real firm foundation is being laid by Mario. Much different than Manny winning every off-season the way he did with bells and whistles

Golden's failure was FORCING D'Onofrio to continue to run Golden's outdated defensive scheme. Golden learned defensive coaching under Al Groh and it was Grohs' scheme that he employed. Groh was so successful with it that he lost his head coaching job and was then the DC at Ga Tech under Paul Johnson ... and Johnson fired him due to that defense not being effective. If Golden goes back to that same scheme at ND he will be fired by the end of season 2 ... but I have seen comments that the ND HC will be personally involved with the defense so he might be more successful. Maybe he learned something in the NFL the past 8 years.

It didn't matter how many years of head coaching experience Coker, Shannon, Golden and Manny had or didn't have. Or the schemes they ran or didn't run. Those coaches were incapable leaders.

Saban is a much better coach but Butch would not have been stopped if he stayed. My only question is lets say he stayed and won the NC in 2001 & 2002. Would he have been the top candidate for the many open NFL jobs & would he have left?
I think Butch would have eventually returned to the NFL, especially after winning a few NCs. He was a part of two SB teams under Jimmy. Reasonable to believe he'd want a chance to be a SB HC.

Thing is though when he did return after winning a couple more NC we wouldn’t have had to go with Coker as HC there would have been a line of great coaches trying to get at that cupboard of players he would have stuffed them with…

And our admin would not have paid enough to hire them
