Is that his basal metabolic rate number? I don't think that accounts for calories spent working out, which is a massive number given the amount of time these guys spend running, lifting, etc. I have a family member who struggled to keep his weight while playing D1 football. Played OL and coaches wanted him up around 300. He came to camp in year 3 weighing like 275 and the coaches were pízzed off. He wasn't trying to lose weight. His basal metabolic rate skyrocketed from a few years in their S&C program and he struggled to eat the 6000+ calories a day he needed to in order to just MAINTAIN his weight. He eventually got his weight up and was a three year starter, but he said it was a bí7ch to keep his weight up. Like it was a chore.
