This is exactly it. I thought he was solid to them which in itself is weird because Billy’s offense isn’t that good but the fact that they aren’t able to add much in the way of talented OL has to be something important for him to consider for his own health and performance potential.

Mullen would’ve done the same thing Billy did with that money and overpaid his friends with it but atleast he

I agree with you in principle except they burned him out and that commitment would have needed to come earlier. Their fans are awful and the University doesn’t give the coaches the support they need relative to satisfy their brutal fanbase’s expectations.

Also, Mullen would need to not simply hire friends or guys he’s comfortable with like Hevesy and Knox or whoever the RB coach was. And top assistants would need to want to work for him which is another challenge as he’s an odd bird.

The other thing is that it still takes a strong recruiting HC at the top Saban, Kirby, Dabo… all are driven to succeed on the trail and play major roles in landing guys. Mullen doesn’t like recruiting really.

If Mullen had Mario’s recruiting ability or Mario had Mullen’s X and O’s acumen, I think you’d have a top 5 coach right there. That’s why it was so important for Mario to hit on his assistant hires. Hopefully, regardless of last year, it’s a different story this year.

1-11 is a real possibility. That's not even a gator hater prediction. They will be worse than every team on their schedule besides Samford and possibly Mississippi State. And that's their last game. The whole team will have quit on whomever the interim coach is at that point.

I agree but I think your HC has to be the closer on the trail. The title contenders usually have a HC that closes. Mullen would of gotten some but I don't think that can help. UF is like us with past staphs they will get one or two then try to convince themselves the rest aren't jags and "proper" evals. That program is going to be a disaster.
