The connotation of “Rangz” and Miami is uneducated ghetto locals. Same way I see people referencing “Hialeah Bros” over there is a shot at Cubanos.

OK, as someone who took 4 years of Latin, I'm not going to be offended by the "you're extremely unintelligent", as I realize you probably intended second-person-plural there. I'm still not sure who is unintelligent, though. First, we are a pretty good school, academically, and many of our season-ticketholders are UM alums. But even affording the reality that every fan base has a percentage of unintelligent fans, it's not a phrase that is based on misspelling, it is based on mispronunciation. And a certain type of mispronunciation associated with a certain ethnicity.

As for your mistaken impression that we have only recently in 2022 found this phrase to be offensive and stereotypical, we have been pointing this out for years. It is part of the larger critique of "plantation schools" (predominantly in the SEC, but a couple in the ACC as well), and the way that so-called fans can be so casually and callously heartless in their use of language.

As for the "blog by a Miami fan", it is comparable to the way that the African American community "took back" a particular word that starts with "N". That guy didn't INVENT the term "Five Rangz", he simply reclaimed the name. If you have any doubts or misgivings, I would encourage you to walk around the parking lot of Hard Rock in 2025, yelling out "FIVE RANGZ, B!TCHES" while wearing your Gators gear, and see how well it goes over.

Finally, I get that you don't care about it. I can't make you care about it. I just think that you should care about it, and that's my 2 cents.

I'm glad I signed up just so that I could let you know that it's spelled "Beaker", not "Beeker", you silly goose. That's okay, though. I'm sure that you didn't need to take English or science classes to attend Miami Dade College, so you don't have to feel like a complete idiot and uncultured swine in front of your e-peers for not knowing that.

Brief UM history lesson: Walt Kichefski was the original Gator Hater. He refused to capitalize the "G" and called them "The gator."

He took over as interim head coach in 1970, the year before Fran Curci took over and experienced what is widely known as "The Gator Flop."

Therefore, "the gator" is the University of Florida football program.

There was a very famous UM alum and former UM assistant coach (and one of my fraternity brothers) who coined the term "Gator Hater" back in the 1930s when he was a student at UM. Now, I'm not claiming he's the first guy who ever said it, just that he popularized that at UM. And whenever he would speak to groups of UM students, alums, or fraternity brothers, he called the University of Florida generally, and the sports teams specifically, "The Gator".

It's just a phrase of ours, to pay tribute to a (now-deceased) great UM alum. Nothing personal.

I think a casual glance around this entire country in 2022 would indicate that a lot of people do not realize how casually certain terminology may creep into everyday conversation.

I was just trying to converse with the gentleman about how the use of Ebonics can be very problematic.

But I appreciate your contribution, even as it gave me a bit of whiplash.

Are you please with the direction recruiting has gone?
Do any members of the staff concern you as to whether they're good enough to recruit and develop your players?

For the record, Miami-Dade was the largest community college in the country at one point. Many long-time Dade residents, and recent emigres, got their educations started at MDCC.

Just as many Florida grads began their journeys at Santa Fe...but you wouldn't know anything about that, right?

First off, I was summoned here. Second, I promised you nothing. Third, are you really surprised that I call you all dumb? Because I've been doing that for years, so, uh... surprise? Finally, to answer your first question, yes.

Now, to address your other questions:

1. I haven't seen the dude coach a single game yet, so I'm not going to declare it either way. Or maybe, I will just to stir the pot. Yes. UF undefeated in 2023. Go Gata'.

2. I didn't like the Patterson take that early, and I wish someone elite would jump on board. Until we start losing battles for all the recruits we're after, I'm content for now.

3. Colbert concerns me recruiting-wise, and I don't really care for Juluke. It's too early for any development concerns.
