Here's the thing about the Gaytors coaching job.
Their alums and fans think it is a Top 5 coaching job. It is not.
Furthermore, the way in which Spurrier and Urban left really hurt UF, though they won't admit it. Spurrier left his own alma mater, where they have a statue of him. Urban faked a heart attack to get out of Hogtown. The coaching fraternity takes note of that and starts to think that the job is toxic.
Since that time, they have made horrible hires. Not even "hometown" Muschamp could hack it.
If UF could get past the racism, they would be smart to hire a coach like Dino Babers, who is trying to run 100 offensive plays per game. That type of mindset by a HC could be very attractive to skill position recruits.
Otherwise, they are going to continue to repeat their failures.

Chip wouldn't be successful at Florida because recruiting, yet you say he won at oregon becasue of X's & O's....well last time I checked thats what wins football games. At UF even if he is a poor recruiter will get better players than 70% of the country simply by recruiting florida players. We trash UF for recruiting a lot, but lets not act like the South Florida kids they get aren't better than recruits coming from oregon, jersey, etc, etc. Sure they're getting the lower level Florida guys compared to us, but I'd still take those guys over recruits from most states.
I agree Chip fits more at a school not in the south, but I think he'd tear it up at any school he goes to. He doesn't need to go to a small market school. And what does he need a patient AD for? give him 2 yrs at any school, and i guarantee the offense will drastically improve. Chip Kelly will be a successful CFB HC whereever he goes. IDK if he'll be as succesful as he was at Oregon or win a Championship or anything, but dude will win.
Yall can think UF would still suck with Chip, but I doubt it. Dudes a winner in CFB

Much easier to win in the Pac-12 than it is in the SEC, the level of competition is solely based on the ability to recruit.
If you can't consistently recruit in the SEC it doesn't matter how much of a Guru you are, you can't win.
Sumlin is one of the best Offensive coaches in the country, he's also a great recruiter & still can't win the SEC West.
Chip Kelly would have to recruit at high level to win at a school like UF, which is something he's never done, which is exactly why I wouldn't be worried if they hired him.
Furthermore, because of how his career ended in the NFL, he wouldn't wanna go to a program like UF anyway, because they would be impatient with him, thinking he's supposed to win a Natty right away.

Oh my God, here we go again with another porster who wants to give Chip Kelly a *******.
Look, I realize that the Gaytors are addicted to trying to hire a "name" coach, and Chip Kelly fits that bill. But he has also failed twice in a row in the NFL, and he is a very stubborn coach committed to "his system".
I am sure he could compensate for his lack of affinity for recruiting by hiring some guys to do the dirty work for him. Fine. But that still doesn't mean that he will build a network of trust and support among the high school coaches in Florida. He would get some talented kids, no doubt, but kids more interested in making a "business decision" to attend UF. And that is good, to a certain point, but it certainly doesn't build a "family" of alums like what we have at Miami.
Anyhow, it also calls into question whether he will have ongoing and maintainable success, or whether he only builds a cult of personality that dissipates when he inevitably chooses to try the NFL again.
But this concept that Chip Kelly is some sort of perpetual winner who never fails and can succeed anywhere and anytime simply flies in the face of the evidence to the contrary. He might be able to succeed at UF, but he's no Spurrier, he's no Urban, his heart isn't in the college game, and he will always flirt with the next big job.

Which is exactly why them having to pay mac top dollar to leave is best case scenario. They'll get a golden special of a coach no matter what, I just hope they have to pay through the nose for him.

Oregon was running rough shod over everyone the year they went to the national title game. They don't play defense out in the Pac-12. The minute they ran into an SEC school that focused on defense (Auburn) that offense got shut down with the quickness.

I think they’re still on the hook for a couple of years of Muschumps salary too.The coaches are normally paid year to year except the coordinators that may be on a 2 yr. contract.
