What are everyone’s thoughts on Lane Kiffin taking an NFL job? Maybe the Giants since they have Dart looking like he might be a solid NFL quarterback. To early to tell but there may be something there if they managed to put a team around him.

They don’t have a deal with him yet, because there isn’t an official offer yet.
My partner sure believes they have made an offer because he is one of the boosters who pays for lots of crap at UF and he has told me what he believes are the terms. Insane money if you ask me. They are willing to raise the bar higher than anyone else in college football will. But, again I hope you are right and they actually end up with an unproven guy who will not take recruits from us……..

Lane is a good coach, underachieved last year with one of the better rosters in CFB. He's the type of hire though that can really flip the momentum for a program quickly, lot$ of $upport would be provided for a quick turnaround. He's not walking into a FSU type situation where there's 0 talent...

In today's age though, I don't really see much of a difference between the 2 programs, he can compete for SEC and national championships at Ole Miss who is further ahead at this point than UF. As the weeks have gone on and he hasn't shut it down despite being in true contention says a lot about where his head is at...

If Lane is truly smarter than he used to be, he will take an NFL job. His father made his reputation in the NFL and if Lane is getting remarried, the lifestyle can be marginally better in the NFL. You certainly don't have to deal with boosters and NIL, you can lean on personnel guys to assemble your roster and payroll, and from there on out it's just pure coaching.

Surely it's not wise for the AD and co to tell the boosters that they're tampering with Lane.

Agreed. That Giants job has to be tempting even outside of Dart being there. You have Nabers, some pieces on defense, it's not a total disaster from a talent standpoint. Giants have to want to have him of course and if NFL doesn't work out, he can come to college and have his choice of jobs (just like Saban to a lesser extent)

I hate the Gaytors, but I hate the SEC and BAMA even more. Since they've pussed out on us again as far as scheduling a game with the Canes, I say let him go there and tear things up.

Sure. But supposedly the boosters have put all the money together and talked to Lane’s people, because Lane is not talking anything official or directly until Ole Miss’s season is done. Semantics, but important nonetheless because I think the clarification is important.

And I’m not saying that your partner is wrong. I’ve heard the same numbers from my friends, and those same numbers are also all over the Gator boards too. But also this is all one-sided for now because UF has given their offer, and Lane hasn’t given any feedback to them. So they’re getting all excited because they think the deal is done because in their minds no one would turn them down because UF is the pinnacle of CFB jobs, but they’ve got competition. Lane taking any one of his options wouldn’t surprise me.

At some point schools will realize that they can pay a coach 6-7 and use the other 6 towards a roster
And at some point it is going to be politically toxic for a school to spend $15M on a head coach and $30M plus on paying its players, while at the same time drastically raising tuition fees for non athletes.

It will lead to major contraction in college sports.

I read something last month about his wife really liking Mississippi and being happy there, and how that could keep him at Ole Miss. Who knows if it’s true, but I do think people are underestimating how much his wife is going to factor into this decision.

I also think people underestimate how much of a rebuild UF is going to be.
