Gary Ferman Interviews Swasey
I was calling for Swasey to be fired in 1997. I win.
Nice Franchise. Wasn't really trying to compete. Just was saying there was some real fools defending this guy for a long time.

His inept abilities were really noticeable from 1999 - 2001...

Swasey was a ******* assistant in 1999, and was "co-head strength and conditoning coach" in 2000.

So when he finally took over as head man of the S&C program, it was 2001. Same exact career trajectory as Larry Coker, except Swasey never got fired.

Did you want your son being developed by a man who couldn't even pass a basic test? Who couldn't be bothered to prepare for it? What does that say about the seriousness with which Swasey took his job????
No .. i wouldn't but like most of these kids coming in...my son has already develop his work ethics...it was introduce to him at 14.. if a kid is gonna push it or slack on reps ..its in him by the time he gets to college.. Shaq increased his power clean by nearly 200lbs while in high school..with the best SC Coach in the universe i would be surprised if he increased by 80 lbs while in college

This cat has produced some of the weakest, fattest, and slowest Canes teams I've ever seen...on top of that he struggled to pass a course that is required by the NCAA that qualifies him to do his job...and he "just didn't see this coming?"

Wow.

Your son is the exact type of kid we need here. It is a testament to his character and upbringing, no doubt.

But college ball is not HS ball. The development he will experience now will be a critical piece of his future career. It's so so so much more than improving his lifts. It's his conditioning, his flexibility, his power, his recovery, his maintenance, his acceleration, and perhaps most importantly, his will power that will all be developed by an S&C coach.

Just like any other coach, your son will greatly benefit from a qualified, motivated S&C coach. Swasey was not that. This is a great day for Shaq's future, I couldnt be more confident in that.

"Basic test"? How would you know if that test was basic, did you take it?...are you a S&Cing coach?...NOPE!!!

Once again, you're speaking on a subject that you know NOTHING about, or have NEVER experienced...football...SHHHHHHHHH!!!

My point is not to defend Swassey ... its that i don't see the necessity of personal attacks.. It is personnel on or were on the staff i had personal relationships with..but we all understand this is business...as a matter of fact if I were Richt EVERY body on payroll would be my people. ..100 percent cleansing...but not for one second would it have wh been personal...so I'm just dumbfounded by the personal attacks..why?

You might think that and that's great but not a single elite head coach agrees with you. All of them place a premium on strength and condtioning coaches and a large part of that is because the S&C coaches, on top of being responsible for the physical development of players, also set the standards of the program when it comes to how hard you work and how to actually get results.

So trying to pass the buck off on the kids by saying it's their fault for not working hard enough is absurd. Sure there will always be kids who don't want to work hard, but there's plenty of kids who need to be pushed and developed and that is a large part of an s&c coach's job.

Wow so now we know why old canes loved to come back and train with him..becuase they couldn't while they were canes.. Jk... I hope

Honestly seems like a great guy, knows his stuff and was probably golden, Shannon, Coker faults but was time for a change

"knows his stuff "

Apparently not good enough to pass the mandated SC test.

I'm not very good at putting my emotions on paper..not seeking a debate with you the point i am trying to make is...the kids that were the hardest workers in HS will be amongst the hardest working in College....the best SC Coach in this universe is not going to make a kid that has been instilled with a slackers mentality to be amongst the hardest workers in college.. and trashing former staffers will have no affect on UM football

HAHAHAHAHA I'm so thrilled to see you rustled today. It adds to my joy. I have leftover champagne from last night, I'm toasting to the end of the Swasey era as we speak!

Were you guys dumbfounded by the personal attacks on golden and no d as well?

Everyone gets personally attacked on this board, it's how it works.

It also didn't help Swasey's cause that he struggled to pass an NCAA mandated certification course for strength coaches this past season, preventing him from personally working with the team in his weight room.

He should of been fired then but was probably kept so AG didn't upset alumni. Long story short, Swasey was sociology major who lucked his way into a spot and kept it way longer than he should have. He was paid very well. Wish him well on his next venture.
Well that would have been the FIRST time that AG worried about upsetting alumni.

Because he's escaped the TWO previous failed regimes and people have been calling for his head for over 10 years. It's called pent up rage.

It is basic. And if you cannot pass the most basic requirement that your field has implemented as a gate-kkeping instrument to keep cretins out of the field then one should look for work shucking corn or selling DVD players at Best Buy. It would be like someone touting themselves as a lawyer who cannot pass the bar exam. You just do not like standards when they raise the bar too high for folks such as you...which I imagine is frequent. The subject is not football, as you were mumbling, the subject is a basic qualification exam in a field of "study." The SC coach at UM did not possess the genetic intellectual capacity to pass the basic standard of his field, he got fired, he was *** wash.
